i find it funny that almost everyone commented on the fact that kamijo flipped the fans off he said " I long for you pointing the sword in the direction of the moon" when he showed the middle finger ... common people whats the point in listening to a band if you dont understand what they are saying
i love versailles :DD but i wonder why did kamijo rise that middle finger O.o i mean, if he was a noble vampire he should respect his fans more unless he didn't mean something offensive... i really wish to know why he did that ;-; maybe it means something else in japanese xD
They are F***KING awesome~~~!!! Kamijo-sama can flip whatever whichever finger to me. I DON'T CARE!!!! You are the best and most beautiful person in the world!!!!
I agree. I mean many metal musicians in the States refer to their audiences as "crazy motherfuckers". Is it mean they are being disrespectful? That's like calling your own buddy "motherfucker". That is different way of showing bonding. I think showing middle finger in metal concert shouldn't be viewed in such negative perspective.
@williamindragunawan That's also the usual thing that I notice in most Japanese music. Most of them are just behind-the-scene sessionists, but very, very, very brilliant ones, nevertheless...
@weiss99 IIRC, in an interview Kamijo said that he writes the piano parts himself using a music sequencer, and programs the piano that way. I'm not sure if on their albums they get actual people to play the piano parts though, or they just program the piano.
@williamindragunawan I agree, I think keyboards play such an important part in many of their songs that they should get a keyboardist. I feels weird sometimes listening to such beautiful piano parts, yet not being able to put a face to all of that.
@Paulelele Once, I thought that they had a keyboardist as I was imagining them being like Galneryus... Don't get me wrong with this one, I'm not comparing the two bands, I know that they have different styles of their own. It's just that in my opinion, it's much better if they have a keyboardist as well.
Well... It's still up to them though. They're still great no matter what. :)
I didn't even notice the hand gesture! Look, Versailles is all about elegance and being noble, and raising fingers delicately just like what Hizaki, Teru and Kamijo always does is so basic. It's being in consistent with the character of somebody who longs for something and sees it far away (which is so Kamijo and the whole rose story). Get it?
@CherrySakuraSubs also the line he's singing when he does it is rebellious, thusly it's appropriate for him to throw a one-fingered salute. It's not at the fans, it's him gestureing appropriately to what he's singing. Even if we was flipping the fans the bird, if you REALLY love the band, you won't be so hyper-sensitive to it, it's not like he's Trent Reznor going on record as hating his fans. Get over it.
Versailles is something else beacause 1) they're not only gorgeous - but 2) They sound sooooo awesome LIVE. there are so many v-kei bands out there who looks good, but I wouldn't DARE watch them live. THEY ROCK~!
In America, the middle finger doesnt really carry as much insult as it did many years ago. Its more of a joking thing now. Although I still use it when people piss me off on the roads :P
Amazing band, I really hope I can see them during their world tour next year.
Just another note on the finger though, I've noticed he actually does that quite often. To me, it doesn't seem like he means it the same way an American would, for instance, though I am curious as to any other possible meanings for it. Does the middle finger symbolize something different in Japan? Or is that move just a little quirk of Kamijo's?
well, he died quite suddenly actually which left a lot of people dumbfounded. He was already ill from a certain illness and decided to take a break from the music scene.but he died instead... so sad...
the music kinda reminds me of "Sadistic Desire" by X Japan, I'm new to Versailles, and I really like them :D and I'm sorry to hear the passing of the Jasmine You :( RIP
Nice song and awesome band! I am a huge fan! However, I think it is disgusting that Kamijo gave the finger to his fans. That's very disrespectful. If I had been at that live and had noticed, I would have booed or something to let him know. He should be more thankful for his fans that that.
Well..i got the same feeling when i first saw it, but this meaning only applies in the U.S...in Japan, the finger actually symbolizes a completely different meaning ( even though im not sure what it symbolizes^^)...i dont think that the noble Kamijo would do something like that to the American fans ^_^
Seriously? Hmm..I didnt went to that show...but I guess people can accept that during different occasions (as long as they are not in a bad mood lolz)...Yeah i agree to that and Lareine was definitely awesome in a distinct way from Versailles...
Oh wow. I didn't even notice the finger until now, haha. But yeah, maybe it does have a different meaning or something. I don't think he would do it on purpose...
@JeannyLuo, yeah I don't think he means "fuck you" or something, I every country almost every hand gesture means someting else, like in my country the sign with your index finger and your middle finger strait up means "peace" but in the UK it means "fuck you"
@Yumypop It actually depends on how you old your hand. If your palm is facing outwards with your first two fingers like a V, then it means peace in both the US and the UK (and perhaps other places as well, I don't know). But if your palm is facing inwards and you give the same gesture, then that's "f*ck you," like the middle finger in the US. The origin deals with cutting enemy archer's fingers off during war times, but as far as I know it mostly exists in the west, not so much the east.
@foxinsocks506 yeah, I read an article about that in a history magazine, it was a habit of the French to cut the fingers of a English archer so he couldn't use his hands to hold a longbow. So the V sign facing inwards was a kind of challange sign like "come and get my fingers".
@FFchibi i thing him giving the finger and being an overall git is pretty great tbh haha. i love that whole badass rock and roll thing, i mean he is a rock star, as far as im concerned he can do whatever the fuck he wants to lol, how boring would rock be if everyone was calm, he should drive a car into a swiming pool next and smash the stage up XD
@lysetsvokter Part of his character? I hope not, because that's rude. And I've never seen him do this during a performance before. I think he acts really weird in that DVD. Doing that, yelling at random times . . . was he intoxicated or something?
why is that rude?? Did I say it in a bad way or something?? Why does he acts weird, maby only you think that. He is normal, and in that dvd he is so awesome, he has so much energy, and he really communicates with his/theirs fans.

just for all the ppl that are wondering about the meaning of the middle finger in Japan:
in Japanese signlanguage the middle finger when the palm is facing outwards stands for the kanji 'se' which can be translated to 'we'
but in Kamijo's case I just think he's too busy to even notice the gestures he makes, because it must be damn hard to remember all those lyrics
