  • @c3789 erm look at Austin's promos against Bret Hart in 1996, plenty of Attitude there when Shawn Michaels was smiling being a goody too shoes and getting booed out of madison square garden against psycho sid. Austin was attitude before DX even existed

  • @ovafiend yeah but shawn was attitude behind the scenes and he was attitude way before 96

  • Going to the HOF. He deserves it.

  • @Xcensis Since Michaels is going to the Hall of Fame there are rumours that he could come out of retirement.

  • @kiltsonfire164 he kinda is but he is never going to wrestle again.. he is going to work in back and maybe work on camera they arent sure yet.. he should be a commentator

  • WWWWAMOOOOOO!!! OOOOOH THATS GONNA LEAVE A STAIN!!!

  • "you are a fad and i will always be the world wrestin federation" thats true hbk was wrestlin and he always did the best promos so good with the mic and camera

  • I still call it "The Federation." ;_;

  • muhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha

at the beginning of the vid hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    austin got owned

  • Holy crap! I remember this! This was my 1st time seeing Raw back in the day! I tuned it right into this! I saw all that from WM 14 until the Brock Lesnar era.

  • @krazygreen

no man .HBK didn't start attitude era. Austin did it. I know, HBK or Hitman's fans don't like him cause his style is so different.(yeah there are only two ways - you must love him or hate him). but stop ignoring facts.

  • Actually Arnold Psycho Sid started the Attitude Era. He was the Austin before Austin. He was the bad guy people cheered for and he embraced them even though he was a bad guy. To me, he made tweeners cool (even though Luger had a very good run as a tweener in the late 80s and in 95) and basically started a trend of tweeners that consisted of Austin, Hart, DX (before turning 100 percent face), Mankind, Rock, Wolfpac (when it was first seperated from NWO), and others.

  • @bigdinlaca Just because he was the first tweener doesn't mean he started the attitude era, that was dx and austin and that's obvious...

  • @ArnoldChrabry Austin and Brian Fucking Pillman...the infamous pillmans got a gun segment lol

  • @ArnoldChrabry to act like austin started the attitude era more than dx just means u havent' researched ur facts....they all did it, they all were pushing the envelope, i'm an hbk fan, he's the greatest ever and i can't stand austin (mainly from the WM 14 crap) but i give him = credit with DX for really ushering in the attitude era, u should stop ignoring that fact...

  • HBK essentially started the Attitude Era, and passed the torch at WM14. Austin carried it along with the rest of the great memorable Attitude Superstars. However Austin shines the most during that era. I love Bret Hart, but as hard as it is to accept, he was essentially a cancer that needed to be ridden of. Once he was gone, Vince and the WWF saw ratings, money, and popularity that they hadn't seen in years.

  • @krazygreen True dat'. Late 1997 & at Wrestlemania XIV WWE skyrocketed to success unparrallel even to the companies "Glory Days" in the mid 1980's.

  • I miss him saying his" THE HEARTBREAK KID LAYS DOWN FOR ABSOLUTELY NOBODY" catchphrase cause since laying down for SID and AUSTIN , his promos arent what they used to be.

  • Shawn Michaels is an awesome wrestler and i hope the kids that are starting to watch wrestling now figure that out. because i started watching wrestling in the early 2000 and i love HBK so much and i have watch almost all his matches back in the 90s and 80s and am so proud that am a true HBK fan because HBK doesnt ever let us down. gosh am so tired of wwe trying to give cena all the attention they just dont get it. HBK IS the best and his fan will always stay true to him HEARTBREAK KID!

  • true. i watched some back in 2000 just pieces but then didnt have cable no more so i started watching in 05 i think but now no cable again lol

  • u do realize that Shawn dosn't want to be in the main event scene all the time

  • Yes i do! But also wwe is now putting him in stupid story lines,

  • that he agree's too!

  • Comment removed

  • This is prior to Wrestlemania 14, where Austin defeated HBK in what was (at the time) Michaels' final match. Yes, it was 1998.

  • @Hardcorepoweranger its 1998 he didnt get married till 2000. he retired after wrestlemania 14 which was april 1998.soooo1999 iswrong buddy

  • you idiot its 98 couse its before wm14!!!

  • Everyone is Leaving LONG! comments....

    SO Shut Up! xD

  • hogan was a jerk when it was time to pass the torch to bret. bret was a fucking cry baby asshole when it was michaels time. michaels was a complete fucking prick when it was time to put austin over. see the pattern. by the way taker and bret did not get a long. bret was to put taker over before a ppv that taker was main eventing. bret refused to let taker hit his finisher and let nash come to the ring to hype up the ppv. taker was pissed for years at bret.

  • ive never heard once about hbk making a fuss about putting austin over. if that was the case, he wouldve dropped the belt like he did prior to wrestlemania 13. instead, he went in there with a ridiculously injured back and fought threw a shitload of pain to put austin over.

  • bret threw a fucking fit when he was asked to put michaels over at mania 12. he was a complete ass the entire match michaels worked the arm for half hour and bret refuse to sell the arm. bret complained until the day of the match about putting michaels over. he was no different then any other champ back in those days.. when the belt actually stood for something and decided who got paid more money. you know that your obviously an educated wrestling fan.

  • Shawn Michaels was an illegitimate champion at that point. He won the title in a disputed match — the Montreal Screwjob. I don't recognize this Michaels title reign, and I don't think he was a good champion. In '97, ratings and PPV buyrates were higher when Bret Hart was champ, and declined when Michaels had the belt. When Austin finally snatched the belt from Michaels' greedy hands, the WWF eclipsed WCW in the ratings and buyrate war.

Rey Mysterio was more believable as champion.

  • your are out there my friend. bret was not some great guy that everyone loved to work with. and realize bret had his demands and bitched like everyone else. i know bret was your super hero but it is time to grow up and except that he was not the most gracious and respected guy in the business. we are not little kids anymore i am sorry i have shattered your vision of bret. bret was a piece of shit so was michaels so was hogan so was flair etc etc etc etc.

  • That's pretty cynical, man. I don't look at Bret through rose-coloured glasses. The man wasn't a perfect father, but he wasn't abusive by any stretch. Despite his faults, he is still respected by his ex-wife and his four adult children.

Bret was maligned by some in the business, and very appreciated by others. He can count among his best friends in the business Curt Hennig, Steve Austin, Terry Funk, and Mark "Undertaker" Calloway.

  • Bret was universally respected as a professional worker, and despite his differences with Michaels, agreed to put HBK over at WrestleMania XII. It was when Michaels explicitly refused to return the favour that Hart really questioned Michaels' respect for his fellow workers.

  • Alright, let's take your approach and cast aside Dave Meltzer and other wrestling pundits. (Few of which are actually fat guys.) Ask a Harley Race, a Bruno Sammartino, a Kurt Angle, a Mick Foley, a Randy Savage, a Dwayne Johnson, a Steve Austin... ask these guys who they viewed as a better worker, or who they prefered to work with when these two were in their prime. Ask who was more believable, who told a better story. Who shared the spotlight. Bret. Not Shawn.

  • lol ''few of which were actually fat guys'' i love that comment awesome and fuck dave meltzer i have never respected him or gave him a ton of credit. Ok back to the debate you were taking shots at michaels for being a drug addict and an asshole. I completley agree. But the fact that you are holding bret in this light like he was the greatest guy on earth that everybody loved is crazy. now we are talking about who was a better worker??? u really consider mick foley and austin great workers???

  • michaels put wwf on his back and revolutionized wresltling with the attitude era. when bret was the golden boy when hogan left wwe almost went out of business. Bret was no draw. Flair, Taker, Hall, and Jericho who was a better worker. Who could emotionally get you more involved in a match ''Michaels'' Bret was a piece of shit just like everybody after and before him. 3 out of the 5 guys never worked with bret. 1 on 1.

  • HBK rules...

he definitely wud've won the match at WM14 against austin, if it wasn't 4 tht damn bitch Tysin. Tysin suXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx.............

  • no fool, he would have probably won that if his back wasn't destroyed..

  • i cant believe u spelled Mike Tyson's surname the way its pronounced lmmfao

  • no he wouldn have his back was damn near broke he was post 2 lose... but he would have never got injured then he would have still ben champion he told vince he could only get him 2 wrestlemania and he was done

  • good times

  • God can you imagine if HBK got his way initially and didn't job to Austin. That might have put WCW on top once and for all.

  • shut up you stupid nigger

  • wtf?

  • omg he looks like bret michaels

i''ve got 2 wordz 4 shawn: pill slut

  • shut the fuck up!

  • It's true. Michaels was all about painkillers, making sexist remarks in bars, and getting his 170-pound ass kicked by lots of people.

  • whatever man. thats what u think

  • what a great underrated promo, this should be on more shawn michaels dvds.

  • Ok, I HAVE to find him, and convince him to sleep with me, or I will NEVER be happy.

  • Shawn is so gorgeous and hot 0_0

  • the great thing is...DX were heels and everyone loved them anyway. i know i did...

  • it has to be 3/9 because it is before wm 14

  • Sweet Chin Music

    Niceee!!!

  • hbk was in massive pain here... apparently crippling pain when he wrestled. I dont like HBK, as i'm a bret hart fan for life. However when HBK nipped up in his match at wrestlemania 14 with a broken back... that was super human and u cant HELP but respect that.

  • did you like nipping bret's ballsack better?

  • He was IN pain, and he WAS a pain.

  • @WhyMagic Yeah, whether you love him or hate him, you got to respect that he would fight through the pain. I know there are a lot of stories about him being an asshole and whatever back in the day, but as an athlete, he was truly ahead of his time. I'm just glad he found god and matured. There will never be another Shawn Michaels.

  • @WhyMagic can u not like both

  • here hbk is having a bad back ache

  • michaels is a better heel than a face

  • SOOOO just because shawn said something in a book most likely it is not true

  • that he is the greatest heal/tweener of all time and he used to be a real piece of shit. i love the fact that he did whatever it took to get to the top and no matter how fucked up he was or how many drugs he was on when he hit the ring it was all business and always stole the show. does that clear it up. HBK=GREATEST PERFORMER OF ALL TIME NO ONE IS CLOSE ON THE MIC OR IN THE RING PAOLRDENES NOOOOOOBOOOOOODYYYY

  • wow man me and you are the exact same...those are exact reasons i liked shawn..i liked that fact that he was an asshole an real life..it didnt matter he did what he had to do!!

HBK is THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!

  • let me say i am a huge shawn michaels fan but he is a compulsive liar which was part of what i liked about him

  • i hope triple h and shawn michaels were around for the invasion storyline

  • hoped....

  • He is talking about 1998-2001 when shawn had a back injury

  • he is the best evr you stupid fatty

  • are you fucked?

  • i bet your from canada usually the only people that hate hbk are from canada because he destroyed your cry baby hero brett in the ring and on the mic only the strong survived that era and brett was to busy being a self absorbed bitch to see it coming.

  • ''my bitch ass dont no shit about shit'' typical canadian. really please dont respond because you wont be receiving one from me because i just realized what a simpleton u are. i feel sorry for you my little mentally challenged canadian friend...

  • I take exception, eh?

Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked Michaels #10 of all time among singles wrestlers. That same American publication ranked the Hitman #4 of all time. Bret is the superior wrestler, no question. His mat skills, and willingness to cooperate with his opponents are only part of what makes him great. Shawn did not deserve the title in '97. Had McMahon not backed out of Bret's 20-year contract and told him to negotiate with Bischoff, Bret would have passed the torch to Austin.

  • your one of those guys that lives in fantasy land and bret is still your hero. You act like bret was not a shit father and had no addictions of his own. are you fucking stupid or something. like bret did not wine and bitch when he didn't get his way. do you have any idea what the fuck your talking about. not kidding your clueless and should never comment on wrestling. pro wrestling illustrated...what? your telling me bret was superior to michaels because some fat lazy wrestling nerd said so.?

  • shawn really should've been around during the attitude era except for those random apperances.

  • he started the attitude era what are you talking about

  • i'm saying his back inury prevented him from wrestling from 99-01 imagine if he was in the inVasion thing.

  • i'm just saying imagine WM 2000 Rock VS HHH VS Show VS HBK:A Mcmahon in every corner!

  • That was funny i luv it when shawn wears a cowboy hat it's who he is and it makes him look more SEXY!!!!!!

  • i was there when this event was on t.v. i can still remember it

  • that man is so unbelievably friggin sexy lol. i love shawn michaels he ruless :)

  • lol shawn needs to be a champion again..i think he's going to go against chris jericho for the intercontinental title at night of champions...

  • LOL at

    "hi hunter...hi CHINA SWEETIEPIE!"

    hahahah isn't that sweet?

  • OMG! I sooooo remember this video! LMAO!!!!

  • this was the only promo that HBK did during the old DX days and he was actually serious

  • what are you talking about?

  • what's so hard to understand? he wasn't shit talking and acting arrogant like he usually did against his other rival wrestlers. (like with his rivalry with Shamrock for example, he mocked him by getting his ankle twisted by HHH

  • Shawn is like the best promo cutter of all time back in the day, and the best in the ring, the best all around the damn ring. The greatest of all time.

  • Amen to that

  • "Amen to that"? but Didn't you just say "he wasn't shit talking and acting arrogant like he usually did against his other rival wrestlers"

  • my "Amen to that" was your comment saying "Shawn is like the best promo cutter of all time"
