Dude respect!.. Dude Im 13 and I just did my first 3 landings yesterday in a 150 during a flight lesson... The first was pretty rough... The second was ok but I balloned a little but the 3rd I adjusted and made a great landing... Definetly not as good as yours but it was still a great feeling!
@lavakava one reason is planes have to be light, and another is that cars vibration disepates through the surface it is on and an airplane does not have that luxary
it is also because you need to have techonology that is proven and tested over a long period of time to be accepted by the aviation authorities, whether in europe or the US.
yeah well i just flew one they are good planes crab heat really slows the plane down and then you 15o flaps and you are about 60knt's if i can rember correctly and you just let those back main wheels hit the ground nicley then you just let that nose whell off the gorund as long as possible and just let it kiss the ground it's awsome in that plane good plane.
Nice to see PE again. I have a whole bunch of hours in her. I miss my old 59 150. Unlike the PA28-180 I fly now, you kinda wore the 150 like a suit. Flying my 150 with the window open on a warm summer evening was one of the best flying I ever had.
Really you learn to eyeball it for the most part. After doing a number of them you develop a mental picture of how the approach should look. Runways also have lighted aids on the side that show a certain combination of colors depending on whether you are on glide path, too low, or too high ...
the guide aides are in this case VASI units. the 33 VASI units are currently being upgraded to PAPI units which is a system of four projectors with two lights each. Depending on the color of the lights you can see if you are on the right angle of approach.
That was 704PE, taken this summer. I took a friend up with me, he was the one filming, it seemed to help keep his mind off his airsickness ;) Id love to show more, but I havent been flying very much, Im only in Philly during summer vacations, hopefully more to come in the spring...
This is one of the best 150 landing vids on Youtube.

There's a golf course right under there that creates some turbulence, and/or my friend filming bumped the camera.

why don't they have silent airplanes. cars got way more silent since the 50's ... airplanes still use 50's technology lol
lavakava 2 years ago
That's changing: innovations like LASAR and FADEC are taking most of the antiquated tech out of the cowling, making plane engines run better.

@futureAlist, I don't buy your vibration theory. small planes are very loud even when taxing on the ground before it gets airborne.

Perfect! Impressive! As a student pilot, its great seeing others perform such a good landing! Thanks for sharing this one!

I see you got the golf course bump just before Academy road. Nice work. Good old 704PE. I wish Herbie would get his planes washed once in a while.

I believe they sold the 150s sometime during the last couple months, which is ashame because they were nice and cheap.

Question to pilot. When your doing a visual how do you know your coming in at the correct angle?
