Your premise only applies to small animals. Second point accepted, but like all predators, once the killing, trapping, technique is perfected, you probably wont even know what happened. So the practise of infanticide doesn't happen and the abandoning of children in famine/war distressed areas doesnt happen either. The latter is more common than people like to think.
Ok they dont eat them, the main benefit is they dont have to share the available food and this is the major reality of famine. Canabilism even in duress is restricted by taboo, law etc.
What I'm trying to work out is how many people out there are willing this to happen so they can dine out.
