Hiya mate, here in the UK I believe Froyo instead of Gingerbread is shipped with ours (Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0). You know if they'll be a Gingerbread update for European owners any time soon?

There's no information about an upgrade to ICS. Not from Samsung or the XDA community. The XDA community are looking into it though, as they are going through the files to see if its possible.... I think. We just have to wait. Bur it's cool that the SGP can run Touchwiz 4 though.

@MoldytoasterMedia Android's version of Google Maps gets caching where you can add up to 10 squares to be cached, it's rather nice to have them around whenever you got no internet connection.

I tried that offline GPS navigation on highway and it works brilliantly, very accurate.

Hey iTubeDevon, i've noticed you said a few times that the WiFi connection is week... I thougt the same thing, and it's not a week connection, but it's that the 2.3.5 Gingerbread version had another WiFi detection system compared with the 2.2 Froyo version. It's just that when in the 2.2 you have 2 bars, in the 2.3.5 Gingrbread version you just have one. Its just a silly configuration.

Howdy.are u able to use the Google voice search on your SGP 5.0. Mine says 'server problem".

Is this a unique problem ,because those guys at samsung contact are so awfully unhelpful.Once i click the mic icon on Google, what shows up next is 'server problem'.

Great first review! It was more well-rounded than all the other Galaxy Player reviews I've watched, including a few professional ones. I would have liked to see how well it handles VOIP calling (since it has the phone speaker and mic) and video chats, but I'm still impressed. Keep it up.

Also, I like your taste in music. (: I still listen to Phoenix and Foster the People quite a bit.

@kickadams8908ass How about due to the battery life? I have the SG2 and the WIFI 5.0. The battery of my SG2 sucks. I just about can survive one day without using the phone heavily. Now with the Galaxy 5.0 I can go more than one day with my phone, and use the galaxy player for movies, games, music and so on!

i been looking at the Galaxy Wifi 5.0 on the net, but it has a physical home button while yours has touch version.... can tell me why is that, or they have two models of the same player... i been looking for your version everywhere including ebay... but cant seem to find it... can tell me where u got it from..??? thanks..

@petiteslave You probably have the international version of the Galaxy Player. Mines from the US. The US versions have the touch buttons. Also the Korean version has a physical button as well.

I got it from Amazon.com. There's really no difference with them. I myself would prefer an actual button instead of the touch ones.

Who ever is wondering how to update from 2.2 to 2.3, you have to use kies software from Samsung. Just plug in your device via usb and check for updates through kies.

@MrBarfbag21 The samsung galaxy 50 is an old MP3 player- It's an old model. This current one is new. I think this one came out around February in Korea(not sure). The international came out a little later after it was released in Korea, and now the US version came out which was October 16th I think... I may be wrong about the international release date though.

I recently bought the galaxy player 4.0, then I saw the 5.0 on sale so I returned mine and got the 5.0.

It's great, but the GPS is acting weird on the 5.0. When I bring up Google Maps, the arrow spins in every direction instead of accurately portraying the direction I am facing in.

The 4.0 didn't have this problem. I tried the 5.0 display model at the store, and its GPS also had this problem.

Is this a very common problem for the 5.0 to have? Kind of annoying for arrow to spin constantly
