I didn't realize this song was 6 minutes until about the 30th repeat... The only people who could have disliked this are those who burst into tears and didn't want to accept that fact.
When I was younger and my mom would let me listen to her ipod I would only play this song, I was too young to understand it. But now that I listen to it again I realize how beautiful this song truly is and how clueless that little girl listening to the song was.
@istealhotelsoap I could be mistaken, but I remember reading an interview that said that there was banjo in the album. It didn't specifically mention which song, but I'm thinking that it's this one.
@istealhotelsoap It sounds right to me! Apparently it's a "bowed banjo" according to the sources I've read so far, and I couldn't hear it in any other songs.
@xZak777x Hm. I don't think they bowed it because that means they used a violin bow to create a sustain effect that wouldn't be this. Bowed banjo just means they used a bow on a regular banjo to create a harsh violin-like effect. I could see this being a banjo track, however.
@istealhotelsoap Ah, I see. Well now I know :D. And yeah it sounded right in my head when I listened to it because I couldn't quite put my finger on the sound before.
i never cry when listening to songs. NEVER. i've never heard a song that was sad or touching enough to make me cry until now. this whole hospice album is seriously bringing me to tears :'(
@shogott i don't recall you being the ultimate judge on what a genre of music is called or the dictator of a person's emotional response to said music. so fuck off.
A friend introduced me to these guys and I love them. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. It's sad, but the melody is so up-beat, I love it when songs are like this.
In 2 weeks I got my heart broken and my identity stolen which is keeping me from being hired on at the best job I have ever had I feel like shit but at least I got the antlers to listen to
So glad I found this band! Their songs are so beautiful and have such an impact on the listener. Unlike mainstream bands, they don't beg for attention. I love them!
The concept album has been tried by many and failed miserably in comparison to this. The only other concept album that can even hold a candle remotely close to this is Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. Every note on this album speaks to me.
@falloutgirl1923 Holy shit I envy you, I wish I had never hear it. Get on that as soon as possible, you're in for the musical experience of your life.
Very poetic, it has an underlying theme of sadness and agony without the entire song being someone bitching about their problems. It's a very well written song in my opinion and I love it.
@snowmuzzle This is a very arresting album, and brutally depressing, It can be uncomfortable and jarring to listen to, but the atmosphere built by these songs is undeniable. It gets inside your head, you connect with the feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and regret that this album so perfectly conveys. There were many times that I wanted to hit "pause" but didn't as it could easily ruin the album. A powerful musical masterpiece.
truthfully, album of the year. 2009 is WAAY better than eight was. Seriously, Veckatimest, Merriweather Post Pavilion, Birca Orca. What else could you possibly want? but, in the end, Hospice wins. This album has got that amazing emotional edge on the lyrics.
i really cant figure out why i love this song so much.. the lyrics are amazing but i dont fully understand them. the strumming pattern is repetitive and almost annoying but it fits.

I'm trying to decide whether the beginning is played on a mandolin, uke, electric guitar, or some extremely trebly acoustic.

@xZak777x I almost thought that they had mic'ed a physical electric guitar. Banjo sounds consistent with the high end that they're getting. perhaps!
