i'm loving the new 3 series alot, but i'm a bit uncomfortable with a 328i with a 4 cylinder engine ..... all this series classification seems pointless and misleading now compared to older 3 series models you knew what was under the bonnet by looking at the numbers on the boot.
For the same price I can get the Audi A4 with essentially the same engine except it would have the super practical all wheel drive and it comes with more features as standard. I don't see the appeal of the BMW anymore. Maybe someone can explain it to me.
I'm driving a '06 E90 318i and really love it, despite its limited power output, but the F30 is just one step ahead... much better interior design, the only thing I have to criticize is the front view - if they had copied the missing 10% F10 5 series, it would be just perfect... :)
The 328i 4-cylinder is also a very interesting engine - okay, it doesn't sound anything like sporty or aggressive, but I'm sure it will do its job...

I am totally in love with the profile of this car, especially that longer front end with the hump on the hood. I really want this to be my next car.. but am paranoid there will be a better options on it for 2013. I'll wait another year at least.

I loved that car to death and I still do to this day. I lost it due to the individual who sold me it turning back the odometer. I am now 18 and I drive a C32 AMG, its comparable to the E46 M3... but at the same time... it just isn't.
I have just test driven one, having owned the current model for the last year I can say this new one does drive better. The engine seems slightly more noisy but that could be due to the car only had 130 miles on the clock so wasn't run in yet. Defo smoother ride on 18" rims on the sport model with the standard suspension. Really annoyed that the drawer under the headlight switch has gone! Interior build is not as good as current model and materials are of a lower standard. It just feels cheaper
Its all good, the thing is though...since the top of the line model is using the same N54 engine or some variant of it as the previous generation, i see no reason to upgrade. Ill' keep my 410whp e92 until the 7th generation..;)

If this Engine was called the 320i what would the normally aspirated version be called? how about the version with the smaller turbo? If you dont know about cars its easy to work out which engine you need, the higher the number, the faster it goes. if you know about cars, then you wont go by the engine size anyway, you will go by its output.

It's more just one number is higher = bigger engine and more power. I was saying how they should switch to numbering it by displacement instead of how they have it now. But well, Steve, you can't sell me this car. 1st off, BMW screwed up the front end. 2ndly, I prefer my much larger yet still economical F10 525d and the mighty GT-R (which is one of your favorite GTs.)
BMW should do the same thing they did with the 335i. The 335i is a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine. By following the same logic, this car should be named 325i instead of 328i because it is a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine.
Why does BMW confuse us with they're model names? What happened when a 320i had a 2.0L engine, when a 328i had a 2.8L, and 330i had a 3.0L? You really don't know which car had which motor anymore.
@Anoush13 They moved away from the naming scheme when they adopted turbocharged engines, because it doesn't really make sense anymore. The 2012 328i has equivalent power to the E90 328i, so that's why it's badged as such. If it was badged 320i, people would see it as a huge downgrade lol
Long Live the Natural Aspirated M !! The E92 will be the last of its kind. Turbos may make it more efficient and faster but it will never feel and sound the same as a Natural V8. I don't know if I can ever get the new 2014 M3 Coupe and give up the E92.
No matter how good a 328i performs, I will always miss the sound of a straight six. I remember when I had E30 325i, hitting the rev limiter. Woootoootoootototot.. I still misss it.
The Evo has turbos...and any horsepower number is possble with a turbo...there is maturity that comes with BMWs that the Evo can't provide. I don't see doctors, lawyers and ceo's driving Evos...also the Evo can't manage 44 mpg.
Looking to change my 2005 2.2 M sport E46 was not interested in the new model previous to this ! But this one is a big improvement looks like a trip to the show room !
Having driven an '08 bmw 335 for a while, this video concludes that BMW makes the absolute worst interiors on their 3 series cars. It's such a bland place to be, and there's absolutely nothing in there that I found nice. And by the looks of the interior of this car, it hasn't changed. What's up with that screen?? So out of place and small and just sticking out of the dash... But hey that's just me...
I'm not hating mate, they are definitely made for very, very different applications, but still, it has the highest hp for a factory 2 liter regardless of consumption, which he was kind of asking.
@googloi it IS impresive in the evo but the life of the engine gets compromised and the fuel economy is like 20 mpg. in this car what is impresive to me is that it is not a performance version is just the base car.

Having driven an '08 bmw 335 for a while, this video concludes that BMW makes the absolute worst interiors on their 3 series cars. It's such a bland place to be, and there's absolutely nothing in there that I found nice. And by the looks of the interior of this car, it hasn't changed. What's up with that screen?? So out of place and small and just sticking out of the dash... But hey that's just me...

44mpg? merc's C350 can do 41mpg as autocar claim.
3 mpg less then this one, Not bad for a V6 petrol with no turbo and i dont think it has stop start either.
And im glad BMW hasent messed up the 3 series as they did with the 1 series , kinda hard to fault this car

@nmeister67 If you think BMW is the only one downsizing you better open your eyes.
At least BMW is able to combine sportivity and luxury while using smaller yet powerfull torquey engines.

I'm not hating mate, they are definitely made for very, very different applications, but still, it has the highest hp for a factory 2 liter regardless of consumption, which he was kind of asking.

@googloi it IS impresive in the evo but the life of the engine gets compromised and the fuel economy is like 20 mpg. in this car what is impresive to me is that it is not a performance version is just the base car.
