  • Cliff Burton R.I.P.

  • This list of bass players is confined to a very limited subgenre of rock...they are all very good bass players though

  • Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Chris Squire, GEDDY LEE

  • are you even a bassist?

  • A bassline is a rhythmic repeating motif that works with the drums. Cliff Burton never played a bassline in his career. Show me ONE song where he's locked in with Lars, not Orion, Anesthesia, or For Whom The Bell Tolls.

  • @dharmaseed nice wikipedia definition.

  • @CMorlandBassist Thanks, that was from memory.

  • Comment removed

  • wheres lounge act by nirvana

  • geddy lee?

  • There should be some Steve Harris here...

  • All of these "best of" bass lines overlook one of the greatest ever. "The Real Me" by Entwistle on Quadrophenia.

  • ROGER WATERS

  • yes i missed my favourites

geddy lee and jean jaques burnel from the stranglers.

  • On Seven Nation Army the dude used an octaver. I'm pretty sure of that.

  • HOW DOES JOHN DEACON DO THAT WITH HIS LEG

  • so is lithium. you're an idiot.

  • come as you are is guitar.

  • What the hell is bass and who cares? Rock is made of guitar, drums, vocals, and nothing else. The Sex Pistols never even turned Sid Vicious up loud enough to hear! The doors had no bass guitar, neither did George Thoroughgood (early days), Buddy Holly, White Stripes, nor "When Doves Cry"

  • @dblthnk02 So what's that funny instrument in the intro of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes called then? I wonder...

  • @ironmusezeppelin97 I'll make this really simple: what is the name of the White Stripes' bassist?

  • @ironmusezeppelin97 Downtuned guitar :)

  • @dblthnk02 All I have to say to you is, Frankie Bello in Cliff Burton are reasons as to why a bassist is a great thing to have.

  • @dbotroniclol1 I never said that there aren't bass virtuosos. Hell, there are accordion virtuosos, too. But who cares?

  • @dblthnk02 Rock music sounds horrible without bass you asshole, suck a dick

  • @TOSportsFan1990 Oh, wow- I never thought of that. Gee, thanks for pointing that out. Thank God there are smart people like you for me to learn from

  • while i agree that alot of these songs have great bass lines i think you should definatly include some blink 182! listen to carousel or always. totally amazing!

  • Hand of Doom is a sick song

  • I hate it how people say someone is the greatest... this is totally unfair, there are thousands of bass players in the world, and nobody knows about them at all, all these people are just famous, all of them phenomenal musicians, but a musician can never be the greatest

  • Fleetwood Mac - The Chain would be another great addition.

  • @LazelDazel part 2

  • Where's LEMMY? :P

  • @Chillton part 2

  • GEDDY LEE YYZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @runninonempiy part 2

  • ever heard of this act from the UK called the who? :|

  • @jsgovind wasn't that a travelling vampire circus?

  • Pink Floyd's Money? I hope it's in part 2 cause its not in here

  • what about little doll by the stooges?

  • Una mierda de video, tenes una vision muy limitada de los bajistas.

Por momentos parece un mix de Black Sabbath, GEDDY LEE NO ESTA ¡¡¡ SORDO ¡¡¡

  • @DeathToCumbia part 2

  • bassline in sweet emotion is AWESOME

  • Got the Time was Graham Mabee's work with the Joe Jackson band. And where is Chris Squire here amidst all this bloody Sabbath?

  • @Tsnore part 2

  • I prefered Nick from Queens of the stone age when he was in Kyuss, way better then.

  • the orignal bass for another one bites the dust ..lets give the credit to my man Bernard Edwards from chic a kickass disoc bassline ma man R.I.P

  • I like JP Jones because there is an obvious funky Stax influence in his playing .

  • Every bass player should listen to Gentle Giant bass lines! Check out the covers!

  • 0:38 what's this?

  • Great choices especially Nirvana and Led Zeppelin!

  • Geezer My Hero

  • good collection! but FLEA must be here!

  • steve harris?

  • 8:15 \m/

  • no running free?

  • Very cool Vid, thanks for making it :O)

  • boy! you forget two masters john entwistle by the who and chris squire by yes!!!

  • Someone has a hard-on for Black Sabbath.

  • good chose to end it out with anesthisia and good thing you got geezer and jason newsted there fucking bad ass!

  • Where is Geddy?

  • good that you ended with cliff but there was no ramble on... wrong.

  • @OuTBrealOfEvil2 is a guitar riff and bass also

    Search before you say something

  • Very nice list, with very varied musical tastes.I'm glad to see Anthrax here,Frank is a very underrated bassist.

  • Funny. When "Come as you are" comes in, Geezer is like... Srsly dood?

  • haha, some of these bass lines are so incredibly simplistic

  • deep purple anyone?

  • Good to see Floyd make the cut, but too much metal. You should have had Les, Geddy, Jack Bruce and the OX!

  • hey dude. the come as you are riff is played on a guitar...

  • This list wouldn't be complete without Les Claypool. Just my thoughts.

  • no rick james ??

  • Cliff is official successor of Geezer

  • When I see Geezer Butler playing, it looks like he's attacking the bass

  • hmm not bad, but I wanted to see SymphonyX intro of domination or sea of lies in the list, they have a really good bass player

  • Got The Time isn't a Anthrax's song, they only covered.

  • @OtaviusC Yeah. Don't give credit to Anthrax, give it to Joe Jackson, the one who originally wrote the song.

  • jsut make a video best of sabbath! lol

  • too much black sabbath in here

  • Where's "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream? Are you fucking kidding me?

  • Listen to some real players like : Ralphe Armstrong with Jean Luc Ponty on Enigmatic Ocean or Sunset Drive on JLP " ATaste for Passion " , Nsangue Akwa on " Caracas " by JLP , Anthony Jackson ( Yeah that one ) on JLP's cover of

    Stevie Wonders " As" .

  • Some of these aren't basslines. A bassline is written independently of the guitar and follows a different rhythmic pattern. It is not a 'guitar solo on bass'. There must always be groove, not shredding. I too am surprised that Steve Harris or John Myung are not in here.

  • There Is Absence Of Mel Schacher, Bassist Of Grand Funk Railroad!!!

    He's Excellent!!!

  • Falta El Bajista De Grand Funk Railroad!!!

    Es Buenisimo!!!

  • Like to point out that Roger Waters is on record admitting that some of his early

Pink Floyd bass lines were actually done by David G.

    Just say'in.

  • YYZ from Rush?!

    Roundabout from Yes?!

  • the ultimate tribute song is orion, RIP cliff.

  • i disagree with this completely...some good pics but there is no iron maiden, rolling stones, dream theater, not enough megadeth,RHCP, not enough led zeppelin, rush, tool....bands like that....and too much lame bands like nirvana, 3 days grace, and queens of the stone age. i guess these are your favorites but not mine...i never listen to overkill and those songs sounded awesome....have a good day :)

  • @337camo I agree with you. I made this video when I was in seventh grade. I'm a junior now. My interests in bands has expanded considerably. Amazingly, this was back before I ever listened to Yes- if I had this video would definitely have had some Chris Squire!!

  • @KoRnhead12 however I do stand by my inclusion of DD Verni from Overkill I think he's a pretty sweet bassist without much recognition

  • @KoRnhead12 DD's underrated. Hat tip to you, sir.

  • @KoRnhead12 Yeah that Overkill stuff sounds cool. Unfortunately I still dont listen to them.

  • @KoRnhead12 I dont even listen to Yes. They're a progressive rock band correct? They seem to be a great band though...a bunch of talented guys in their lineups.

  • @KoRnhead12 yeah however personally I forgive you cause you put Roger Waters in the list... ;-)

  • @337camo oi don't forget primus XD

  • @jinzodude yea totally.

  • @337camo Nirvana aren't lame :P

  • @Yuripadees Yeah they kinda are. If you really sit back and listen to how much more talent other bands have. There are other bands with less talent than Nirvana but those guys really suck.

  • @337camo Lol, sure man.

  • @337camo is sounded even a word. i dont think so! sounded....yeah right!

  • nirvana blows

  • wont argue with your pics,,but no who?entwistle is on of of the best that i listened to growing up

  • Funny how it was Gilmour who played the main BAss, and the Middle 8, Roger played but not to the expression

  • @ltcurry Gilmour and Waters switch instruments on a couple of songs on the album Animals too...its so fuckin awesome!

  • How about YYZ or any Rush riff.

  • I'm glad nirvana got in there

  • where's YYZ?

  • Oh I'm SO glad Hand of Doom got on here. Awesome!

  • So glad 'No more tears' was here. Best bass intro ever imho.

  • Really? No Steve Harris?

  • MEGA FUCKING DETH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Come as you are is not bass.. its a guitar.

  • @OuTBreaKOfEviL2 bassline is the same, if I'm not mistaken :)

  • @Rubenble its not.

  • @OuTBreaKOfEviL2 u sure? Used to play this in a previous band of mine, and the bass was played like that, one octave up

  • @Rubenble the main riff is done by guitar.. and yes the bass plays like that but tahts after all the instruments start play together just go check the tabs

  • come on respect and all but heaven and hell bass line isnt genius, it works pretty darn good but isnt genius no.

  • Of course, Geezer Butler did not write the basline for 'Heaven and Hell'. He had left the band temporarily. It was written by the guy who would end out being the keyboard player, Geoff Nicholls.

  • lack of primus

  • john entwistle steve harris john deacon geezer butler cliff burton for me are the best

  • hmm one question...WHERE THE FUCK IS RUSH AND PRIMUS!!!

  • wheres steve harris?? dumbass

  • I meet Tom Hamilton in Boston. As a bass and guitar player myself I have to bass it was the coolest thing ever.

  • Geezer is the best bassist ever!

  • FUCK DUDE, i always get chills down my spine when i hear Cliff's solo

  • my God, that is a some sub-standard list!

a mixture of some obvious tracks with some WTF-tracks...

  • WHAT?? and where is steve harris the king of the bass?

  • I agree with most of these selections. But REALLY? No Steve Harris? Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Phantom of the Opera, Gangland, etc., etc., etc., Any list of great bass lines that does not include Steve Harris is just not an accurate list!

  • What's funny about Geezer is that he didn't even know how to play bass before sabbath, he learned to with them. Before Sabbath he used to play guitar.

Who the fuck would've known he was going to get so FUCKING GOOD.

And he is also a BEAST making LYRICS.

    BLACK SABBATH FTW!

  • @00JesusChrist

Geezer has become a "real" bassist.

if you listen to all sabbath albums from 1st to last, you hear his progress as writer and bassist!!!

  • Cliff Burton ftw!

  • part two is blocked!!!!...no thanks to the WMG...fuckin punks

  • Better be some damn TOOL on here or someone is missing out!

  • man, you've got to listen to more music, not to mention more Sabbath.

  • God bless the "GEEZ"

peace and love to all life~~~

  • THE BEST MOMENTS:

    3:50 - 4:00

    6:06 - 6:39

    8:15 - 10:00

    P.S long live METALLICA

  • @Matijefkius so why use post script? couldnt you just write long live shitallica?

  • 3:07 it looks like peter frampton

  • what RHCP or primus

  • it sucks, listen trippin' on a hole in a papper heart by STP "robert De Leo"

  • No My Generation??

  • Dazed and Confused = Most badass bass intro ever.

  • anthrax one sounds like some old black flag rip off

  • Geezer is a fucking beast, none can touch hime, not even the mighty Cliff.

  • Gee\er Butler kills people with da bass! Come Groovin'!

  • Davivd ellefson FTW

  • what was so great about children of the grave?

  • Guys, stop arguing about who have been forgot. It have to be subjective. Just enjoy the songs and bass lines ! And if you're not happy, do your own videos !

  • where is Stanley Clarke,Geddy Lee,Chris Squire,Billy Sheehan,Jack Bruce,Les Claypool,John Entwistle, AND many others. Your list does not even have half the guys best basslines on it.Ramble on is a far better Bassline than the Lemon songas an example.AND where is PAUL McCARTNEY!?!? Best basslines in rock history-checkout beatles basslines on this channel. And He sang while playing! You really gotta think on it-give another go!

  • N.I.B.= greatest bass line in history

  • No John Entwistle?"The real me" bass line, as well as 90% of the Who's song list should be here.

  • wow .. what about "No One Knows" by Green Day? ..

  • Leo Lyons - bad scene!

  • what happened to Squire - close to the edge

  • Nice vid, but some basslines are really cut

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 I agree but I also think Jason is even more overrated than Cliff.

  • hey wtf he didnt mention any primus songs this list is bullshit

  • GREAT STUFF THANKS MAN,,,,,

  • I'm sorry, but you completely excluded Mike Inez, the bass player who wrote the bass line to "No More Tears" from this video.

  • that "children of the grave" song's bassline is so boring....i could probably play that....and im a drummer.

  • Comment removed

  • BURTON,BURTON,BURTON!

  • primus and chili peppers arent really rock n roll, albeit claypool and flea are incredible.

  • Can never have too much of Geezer's stuff...

  • @DarkWolf5250 Geezer know's which note can end the world. He just doesn't feel like using it....for now...

  • If Paul McCartney or Bootsy Collins are omitted from list of best basslines , that list loses all credibility

  • You have to be kidding right? I mean Zep, Sabbath, cool and all, some of the best. But no Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Les Claypool, Flea, Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm, Stanley Clark (New Barbarians), Billy Cox (Hendrix) and you want me to take this seriously.

  • and steve harris is where?

  • this to me seems like a list of favourite songs that some guy has picked out of his very limited music collection

  • flea from red hot chili peppers geddy lee from rush and no les claypool from primus?

  • dude red hot hot chili and primus have to on this list im in shock that their not

  • Sabbath forever

  • 192 people need to go to heaven 27 need to go to hell
