A bassline is a rhythmic repeating motif that works with the drums. Cliff Burton never played a bassline in his career. Show me ONE song where he's locked in with Lars, not Orion, Anesthesia, or For Whom The Bell Tolls.
What the hell is bass and who cares? Rock is made of guitar, drums, vocals, and nothing else. The Sex Pistols never even turned Sid Vicious up loud enough to hear! The doors had no bass guitar, neither did George Thoroughgood (early days), Buddy Holly, White Stripes, nor "When Doves Cry"
while i agree that alot of these songs have great bass lines i think you should definatly include some blink 182! listen to carousel or always. totally amazing!
I hate it how people say someone is the greatest... this is totally unfair, there are thousands of bass players in the world, and nobody knows about them at all, all these people are just famous, all of them phenomenal musicians, but a musician can never be the greatest
Listen to some real players like : Ralphe Armstrong with Jean Luc Ponty on Enigmatic Ocean or Sunset Drive on JLP " ATaste for Passion " , Nsangue Akwa on " Caracas " by JLP , Anthony Jackson ( Yeah that one ) on JLP's cover of
Some of these aren't basslines. A bassline is written independently of the guitar and follows a different rhythmic pattern. It is not a 'guitar solo on bass'. There must always be groove, not shredding. I too am surprised that Steve Harris or John Myung are not in here.
i disagree with this completely...some good pics but there is no iron maiden, rolling stones, dream theater, not enough megadeth,RHCP, not enough led zeppelin, rush, tool....bands like that....and too much lame bands like nirvana, 3 days grace, and queens of the stone age. i guess these are your favorites but not mine...i never listen to overkill and those songs sounded awesome....have a good day :)
@337camo I agree with you. I made this video when I was in seventh grade. I'm a junior now. My interests in bands has expanded considerably. Amazingly, this was back before I ever listened to Yes- if I had this video would definitely have had some Chris Squire!!
@KoRnhead12 I dont even listen to Yes. They're a progressive rock band correct? They seem to be a great band though...a bunch of talented guys in their lineups.
@Yuripadees Yeah they kinda are. If you really sit back and listen to how much more talent other bands have. There are other bands with less talent than Nirvana but those guys really suck.
@Rubenble the main riff is done by guitar.. and yes the bass plays like that but tahts after all the instruments start play together just go check the tabs
Of course, Geezer Butler did not write the basline for 'Heaven and Hell'. He had left the band temporarily. It was written by the guy who would end out being the keyboard player, Geoff Nicholls.
I agree with most of these selections. But REALLY? No Steve Harris? Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue, Phantom of the Opera, Gangland, etc., etc., etc., Any list of great bass lines that does not include Steve Harris is just not an accurate list!
Guys, stop arguing about who have been forgot. It have to be subjective. Just enjoy the songs and bass lines ! And if you're not happy, do your own videos !
