  • I saw about this pictures. It used 144 mb RAM, Windows 7 using 1gb RAM without programs. I'm happy cus it used for me 1,5-2,4 gb so far. But it can't do such things... I wish windows8 like this some way (they did better work 8 years ago than now).

  • Um... It's like ubuntu...

  • WHat build is this?

  • @giantsteen 4015 lab06. Haven't leaked yet.

  • i wish this type of wobble windows was in compiz, i think it could run it

does any one knows how to make compiz plugins?

  • Just change the settings in the wobbly windows effect in compiz config. If you don't have compiz config get in in synaptic.

  • Welcome to Linux!

  • To bad this predates compiz by three years.

Want to know why Microsoft didn't include it? It was deemed useless for professional work and was a waste of resources.

  • This is fucking linux beryl probably with xp skin

  • No, it's an actual longhorn beta.

Window's DWM is far more powerful than even compiz, beryl, or xgl, it's just near impossible to take advantage of it.

  • Yep, its so powerful that Microsoft was not able to take advantage of this power and make GNU/Linux desktops look second rate... Yep, its so powerful that it gives a whole new meaning to the term 'Bloatware'. Yep, its so powerful that its paralyzed and fails miserably and lags years behind what everyone else is doing. Its just so damn powerful...

  • The DWM isn't bloated at all, much like the rest of vista.

Anybody who says so has no idea what it is doing, and probably has never used it :)

By powerful, I meant stable. Something which compiz sorely lacks :)

  • "The DWM isn't bloated at all, much like the rest of vista".

    That is beyond a joke.

"Anybody who says so has no idea what it is doing, and probably has never used it "

Oh I know what it's doing, and I use it daily. Its part of my job.

    "By powerful, I meant stable"

ROFL. Work where I work for a week and get in touch with reality.

  • Vista isn't bloated. All of it's "stupidly high" RAM usage goes away if it's actually needed for stuff, and seeing as vista does stuff with it, why should you care if it's being used? Free RAM is wasted RAM.

Vista is a lot more stable than compiz in my experience. I've had vista crash on me a few times, and fucked up the DWM pretty badly, but never had a crash in general usage (even after 52 days of continual uptime (I rebooted for a bunch of updates))

    So... yeah.

  • @PhazonYoshi Actually, Compiz allows effects - DCE optimises them.

    Year-old comments ftw.

  • I like that effect, but it would most likely take more cpu cycles than Aero already takes up.

  • No, it wouldn't. The whole point of 3D desktop managers like Aero, XGL, etc... is to put the load of visual desktop rendering on the video card instead of the CPU. That's why Aero won't work on a computer with a scrawny little video card.

  • Window managers like Compiz-Fusion and Kwin not only work but run quite well on "scrawny little" video cards.

    Aero = fail.

  • don't care who copies who, as long as it works, looks good, and runs my windows apps correctly ;) business baby!

  • don't care who copies who, as long as it works, looks good, and runs my linux apps correctly ;) business baby!

  • *lol* this was shown 2003. XGL was shown 2005 I guess. Who is the copycat now?

  • @olfrygt2007 No-one.

Again, I have to go and smack a Windows fanboy in the face.

(Vista still copies Mac OS X - but besides, it's buggier than LH)

XGL = OpenGL in the X Windows System that's used by *nix-based systems.

DCE = An EXE file that allows smoother effects on supported chips in Windows Longhorn.

Not being a Linux fanboy - I have three Windows computers+laptops.

  • "Linux+XGL+Beryl fan-boys go pat yourself on the back now for being "innovators"

I wouldn't call M$ innovators either, two years before this stardock and YzShadow had similar effects running on 2000/Xp boxes...

  • Right. I guess this guy thinks Beryl and compiz fusion consists of "wobbly windows" and nothing else. Not very bright!

  • The effect in beryl/compiz is better (It doesn't go back and forth, and is therefore more usable I think) and it doesn't matter anyway because microsoft dropped that effect!

  • Good it is in XGL

  • Nope, CarlosXiongMao - that was Longhorn 3 or 4 years ago. All of you Linux+XGL+Beryl fan-boys go pat yourself on the back now for being "innovators"

    PWNED!

  • Wow you're right! Because beryl consists of nothing more than "wobbly windows" Wow, it's too bad it has no other features! Yep! You're so smart!

  • A 47 year old who uses the word "PWNED!" in his internet posts? Are you single? I bet you are!

  • At least we can deliver the goods.

  • one moment!!! that is beryl ! from linux... or not?

  • XGL !!!!

  • GO YOU!

  • Good thing it didnt make it, just more shit to slow the computer down.
