P.S. Youtube won't allow link posts for some reason but I know I found countless stories for the "proof" that you wanted. Msg me if you want the links. An example is Google: David Kao's murder
You accuse me of "lacking the intellectual capacity of a filmmaker" and say I shouldn't take comments like that personally, I have a suggestion for what you can do with comments like that. I could care less whether you respect me or not.
What really offends me is that you downplay the hate that still exists in this country. In doing so, you perpetuate hate and racism. I refuse to sit here and let you spout that idiocy while Asians and other minorities continue facing these injustices.
Do you see what you're typing? You're saying that these characters and this story are fiction that means people like these characters that do exist in real life don't go through racist events? You're saying people have not been killed before simply on the basis of racially-motivated hate? Do you live in a fantasy world?! I don't need to justify my talent to you. My achievements speak for themselves. Dignity and respect are definitely two qualities that you lack. For that, I feel sorry for you.
Kelly show me a case when a asian american was murdered in a big American city for either racist convictions or a relationship with a white woman after 2000, and I will respect you and apologize. Do not take my criticisms as personal.
At to JoeBruin 4 out of the 16 films going to the International competition were from berkeley.
1) the number of films that moved on to the International level from Berkeleyis in no way relevant to your being a biatch.
2) It still escapes me why you're so incapable of taking the extended metaphor of this film into consideration. Ok so maybe no one was killed for being Asian after 2000 (although that's doubtful; just because we don't have the literature doesn't mean you're proven correct) but the IDEA remains valid.
Your comments fail to address criticisms about "representation," Since you decide fictitious story that I can confidently say was not based on an actual event, you must realize your false representation, Juxtaposition of characters and Themes like unpredictability are narrative devices, and if it takes sacrificing all forms of reality to achieve these devices in your story, you lack the intellectual capacity of a filmmaker. Maintaining truth comes before narrative devices. This story is a lie
Allow me to counter your attempt-to-sound-intellectual response by calling you a douchebag. I'm just trying to delve into the wisdom that brought you to the conclusion that this "fictitious" story "is a lie". It's fiction, retard. Loosen up. This film is about a variety of interracial, interpersonal relationships and how they intertwine into an albeit unlikely sequence of events, but stranger things happen in life than this. Stop being so sensitive. Geez.
Not to mention, of course the film utilizes narrative devices, how else would you expect the film to deliver any message at all? "false representation" is a subjective claim, and I don't recall anyone ever making you supreme lord of all shorts.
Allow me to further justify Kelly's point and address RLPZ9 and emanuel.
What both of you have neglected to address is the role of the other white male in the film. The juxtaposition of the two characters, one representing senseless hatred and the other representing love and compassion is matched perfectly by the title of the film. So while you two are indeed entitled to your opinions, try not to be so racially centered yourselves in your interpretation.
Also, for everyone that has watched and supported our film, the entire cast and crew just wants to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will see you all in Hollywood this June. Take care.
I feel the need to clear up some things. First off, everyone has a right to their own interpretation of the film. I will say I disagree with your argument. You guys say that racism is subtle in today's age. While that may be true, you can't deny that events as intense as what happened in our story still occur in the world today. Racism is only one of the subjects of this film, it's also about life, a few minutes of it. It's unpredictable. It's not always fair. Sometimes the bad guy gets away.
I agree, I'm very concerned with the representation in this film, Not only have you entirely missed the subtle and aversive way that racism existed today, but you have gone a step further by creating a melodramatic, evil, racist and unjustified, protagonist. Instead of white audiences coming to terms with their own racism through this film, they have been vindicated in contrast with the white characters overt and unbelievable racism. This film is a large step backwards in race relations.
Have you seen a movie named "Crash?" Your comment just applies to your lack of understanding for what this movie is about it. It says that this exists in life but is not all of life. RLPZ9, stop being an ignorant idiot.
Crash, which this short tries to emulate, is too an oversimplification of race in America. "Everyone's racist so its all cool." Watch "Do The Right Thing" if you want a movie that actually captures racial relationships.
This is a pretentiously titled gross misrepresentation of the American racial landscape. Anyone who praises this is ignorant and completely unaware of the racial/ethnic dynamics currently at play in our country, Shame on you.

Really, really enjoyed this film. Intense is the only word I can think of in describing it. Great story. Great production values. Best of luck at the next level.

1.) Quality not quantity (UCLA's films had much better quality and the best picture winner... automatic boo ya)
2.) Cal STILL SUCKS.
