A watt of electricity consumed equals a certain amount of heat. It's ohms law. A$20 space heater from Walmart produces the same amount of heat per watt consumed. There is no such thing as free electric heat or even an electric heater that claims to have greatly improved efficiency.
consumer reports; You'll find many less expensive but high-performing convection and radiant space heaters that will do a good job in a small space. In fact, David Baker, Heat Surge vice president, recently told The New York Times, "If someone would come to me and say, 'I need a heater and I want to spend as little as possible,' I would say go to a local big-box store and buy one for $29.99. Our heater represents a fireplace rather than just some space heater." GMPNY on Youtube loves hers!
HI, Thanks for this nice video! Would you please check out Heat Surge Fan page on Facebook. I submited an Earth Day tip video and would appreciate your votes! thanks Darlene
so is it possible to have just the fire display without really running the heater? I live in florida and it'd just be for a mood; wouldn't need it to really heat.
It is required to use it's own outlet, not shared. In a few hours the end of the power cord gets pretty hot. Keep in mind the power only goes to three lights and one heater.
my Landlord bought my super sweet Amish Fireplace, it is totally just for looks, cause it sure doesnt keep ya warm when it gets cold, also it can trip up your breaker or fuse if ya live in an old house.
I bought one and it has its own breaker and electric surge plug. Must be their wiring is really outdated possibly? Mine does heat up the place. Its only to heat up a room and isnt to replace the regular heat at all but you can turn down the thermostat. Like I said, great for a living room or a bedroom but not for heating a whole house like a fireplace with fire would.
Whoever wasted their money on this fireplace should seriously consider returning it before it's too late...oh It's too late. Oh well I'll just laugh at you.
There is no fire. That's sort of the point. It's a heater. If there were fire, you'd need a flu and you wouldn't be able to roll it around on the wheels.
So I get one of those. And after using it I felt that we should go Amish 100 percent so I had the electricity removed from my home, just like the Amish live. Trouble is now the heater won't work, it runs on electricity.
maybe it works for you cuz it's minus 40 there, but for me this thing sucks. you really do have to keep it in a room that is small so you feel the heat. they took advantage of the amish by putting their name on it. maybe if the amish used electricty they would know what the deal is, maybe they just care about money. the fact you have to keep it on for so long makes it impossible to save money. amish should just stay on their farms and not be apart of crap products.
i agree, we do not use this "fire-place" for money saveing, we onley use it for the nice warm fire place feel. it does cost too much to heat our home with.
Yeah its not to heat your home but to heat a ROOM. Imagine the debt you would be in if you heated your home with an electric heater? I love mine though, no complaints here :-) Thermostate in the living room goes down. I dont use it to heat up the whole place just my LR. Im going to get one of the scratch and dents for $198. My friend got his today and they gurantee you cant see the flaw and we tried, YOU CANT so thats a great price for the mantle and free heat surge.
they should add a coffee pot to it

The amish think electricity is the devil's magic. And the fireplace was free, but you paid for the $290 mantle, right?
