  • Roy is a little unusual in that he uses a flatpick; most slide guys are fingerstyle players.

For another very good slide artist, try Bob Brozman... He plays in a wide variety of styles.

  • Just thought I would clarify last posting...Roy is not playing a classical guitar, it is indeed a steel-string... as nylon strings are pretty helpless with a slide...it however...has a 'slotted peg-head' as do classical guitars...

  • Thanks for posting Roy is off the hook. The band is tight. That's the first time I saw a classical guitar with a pick-up in it. Alot warmer sound than an archtop

  • One of or probably the the best white slide player around. Just eexcellent

  • This very gifted fellow is the business, he also looks the part, to be honest he should have top billing anywhere in the world, also I have heard is horse trigger is very good on the Dobro, playing that very famous song WHY THE LONG FACE.

  • Yes, I'm new to this guy but he could very well be THE blues man. Much cleaner style than Stevie Ray. Much busier and more entertaining than Clapton.

  • Easy

    Medium

    Expert

    Legend

    Chuck Norris

    Igor

    Roy Rogers

  • Where Can i buy a dvd full of roy rogers

  • Great vocals too!!!!

  • dual coil pup in that martin? sounds like an old school gibson electric.

  • OMG, I never heard of this guy. He AWESOME!!!! thanks for posting this video!

  • Elmore James would love this!

  • great slide player, great tune............got that elmore tone perfect

  • i like these people they listen to to led zeppelin and pink floyd and stuff and talk like they were music gods then i ask them do you now roy rogers?no who is it?then i play this video and they cannot believe this with open mouth.sometime you need to look very hard for really good music doesnt matter if the artist sell 1mil records.i dont like LZ or PF but this music is the true heaven for me.

  • @archmagus666

Truer word were never spoken!!! I like the way you think. Keep talkin'.

  • moin herr walter, t-rans-OFF-ice rocks

  • After hearing this, I feel like throwing rocks at my guitar. Wow!

  • thanks to everyone who chipped in with the key :) can't say i can play it like this, but at least it is making a bit more sense now!! thanks again.. and for a great video, thanks to the poster.. brilliant...

  • This is mindblowing

  • i think its open E

  • This guy is incredible, i love his way of playing :D

  • :0, this guy is freaking amazing

  • @dorkyrockerduo

    Best slide player ever...

  • very nice

  • What kind of guitar is it please?

  • Roy Rogers = Slide king, don't think nobody alive can come closer to Robert Johnson's slide playing! :)

Not that I've seen or heard at least.

  • @SavantSvant Derek Trucks has taken it to a whole new level, also Sonny Landreth,

Roy is great at guitar but his slide playing is very average by comparison

  • @xijack Yeah well I wasnt talking about technical ability, trucks is proberbly better. But when it comes to delta blues I just havent heard anything that can even come close to what this man i capable of, but that's just my opinion. Maybe you could tip me of an album with the artists you mentioned that will forever change my mind? :)

  • @SavantSvant Yes, someone that is dirty old blues slide, check out Seasick Steve and also Ash Grundwald, these guys just have a guitar and a stomp box through an amp turned up to 11. If you really want to get your face ripped off: Robert Randolf.

    Robert Johnson style: Keb Mo

  • @xijack I like Steve he's good but nothing close to Roy Rogers with the slide. Ash Grundwald I'll look into and the other once you mentioned. Thanks for the tip! :)

  • @xijack precisely, it is beyond comparison. Different styles, different approaches, no competition intended. Landreth and Rogers combine slide with fingering and Trucks concentrates on stricly slide soloing OR fingering notes. Just different. All mindblowing and a delight to watch.

  • Cant get any sweeter than that!

  • I woke up this mornin' an God was a'slidin' it ... sic like.

  • this guy must have a patent on the slide blues....

  • ça dépote, que c'est bon !!

  • I have seen Clapton, SRV, BB King, Joe S., BUT and this is a big BUT, I have never

felt the BLUES down in my guts like what Roy Rogers is capable of. The man is so powerful in person it's unbelievable. Don't ever miss a chance to see him live. You are the Bluesman Mr. Rogers.

  • DAMN....

  • this guy owns the guitar

  • Man hört viel zu wenig von solch echter Musik...Blues hat mein Leben verändert

    Einfach toll

  • he sings kinda like jack bruce, and plays like clapton.

  • @TheAquaRover Sounds like Jack bruce. Yes, I don't know if he plays like clapton though. Kinda different styles.

  • omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg. he's so damn good

  • if only I could play just one tune 2/3's that good....

  • Ohh yeahh..!! R.Rogers with his El.James&more influances ..cool Alchimie

  • awesome playing

  • what does he say at the end?

  • amazing...simply good music

  • and i'm LOVIN' IT !!))

  • Yeah man blues, blues blues

  • Yeah, this, what I call REAL blues-feeling!!

  • Круто!

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!! The best!!!

  • Anyone know what the guitar in this clip is please fellow guitar geeks ?

  • its an ols martin or a copy of one

  • It's a Martin,probably a 1963 -65 model :) Not actually sure of the model number though :)

  • 000-15S?

  • I believe he is playing a Martin 0-16NY known to be a geat blues guitar.

  • Geiler Song!

    So muss eine slide-guitar klingen.

  • Stimmt :)

  • Elmore would have loved this version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This guy is toooo much!!!!!!!

johnny Winters tough to beat but, Roys the Best slider around !!

  • i'd say he's probly in D tuning.

  • he's fantastic but of course this is the

    great Elmore James classic

  • since i recently discovered this great bluesman on the internet, i cant get enough of his music! i first heard an instrumental by him on aol radio called (im with you) hey roy, if your listening, is there a video of that track from the slideways album? god bless you for the awsome talent he has given you ! keep on slidin from your loyal listener and fan, faron...xxx

  • Does this video teach in standard tuning?

  • Bad Ass Blues! I downloaded this clip too he is awesome, great Elmer James song......

  • his power is in the goatee

  • This is fkin' ecstasy man! Blues to the bone.

  • The guitar is about a 60s Martin New Yorker. A great knock off is a Blueridge 341 Parlor. Excellent quality and sound. Most important is the neck width. Stick a Gibson P90 or Humbucker in the sound hole and boogie on. It wont make you Roy Rogers but one can try. He is probably my favorite slide blues man.

  • Incredible sound from a funky looking guitar.

I saw The Paul Butterfield Band perform this song live with Mike Bloomfield on guitar (circa 1966 at The Cafe A Go Go). I wish I had a video of that!

But this is pretty damn good.

  • he looks like damien rice....but plays like he sold his soul to the devil....awesome, any chance we could get him for my fortieth birthday? i am willing to pay £100, but he better be damn sure he plays some beatles trax.........LOL AWESOME FUKKIN!

  • Fantastic!!! Thanks for posting:)

    Grandma Mary

  • Absolutely insane!

How dare he play like that! LOL!

  • Roy kicks ass on everything.....but KILLS on this one...if ya can't get your groove on with this...just stay in yer chair...and die

Its an A on Harmonica... think he's in an E on this...Buddy Rogers, Weillerbach,Germany

  • Well played! My favorite Elmore James tune, I like Roy's version of the lyrics too; Roy's slide work is great...love the worn acostic w/humbucker in the sound hole..Awesome sound!

  • anyone know for sure what key he's playing in??

doesnt look like g, so d or e perhaps?

maybe his video will say.. anyhow, great performance.. really getting into this guys stuff.. thanks for posting..

  • I think this song is in Open E ;)

  • thanks mate. i was having a hard time trying to play it in g, so i'll certainly try that.

  • OK, Catfish1935, happy slidin' ;)

  • @catfish1935 This a 3 cord ditty E, A, B, you can't miss it!

Have fun playing along with this one. The solo bits are purely pentatonic. No sweat.

  • @catfish1935 he's in the blues key of e. The blue notes would be d natural and g natural.

  • @catfish1935 More than likely Open E. A Blueridge BR-341 guitar is a dead knock off of this Martin. Of course the acoustic sound is different but I've had both and stayed with the Blueridge for this kind of stuff. The neck is perfect for slide. I taped a Gibson P-90 in the sound hole straight to a jack no controls. How you mount it is up to you. RR is a really great blues man.

  • This guy is just the nuts !

  • I think this is one if not the best version of this song. RR just kicks ass.

  • Fantastic!haven't seen this for a while,I used to have it on his tutorial homespun video.

  • Last Light show ( Blues at the Bow)was fantastic"" Roy Rogers and the rhythm Kings Highly recommended , One of the best guitarist I have ever seen. Thanks so much for coming our way.

  • he is fantastic!! but why is he wearing MY hat?

  • Thanks for posting !!!

  • You're welcome :)

  • Yeah, he's great guitarist! :)

  • I saw this man Playing live three times with Paolo Bonfanti. It's amazing Roy Rogers is god!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!! wow
