  • @TheCHUCKY1992 you can buy it at Lowes or OSH just ask for spectracite stump remover

  • Non should be before metalic

  • Never use METAL while making fireworks, notice burn marks on the wood jig.Always use wood or non static/metalic tools,NOT METAL do not drill chemicals HEAT will set them off!!!

  • should the cat litter stay in when the rocket has landed

  • at 5:48 he has an army of rockets in the backround!

  • Right evryone who views this ppllzzzzz help me i mix kno3 and powderd sugar but when it burns it gives of a liquid that then sets even commpressed it gives of no proper thrust i realy dont know what im doing wrong :(

  • would it not be simpler to just buy motors?

  • @jimbobjones123abc It would be simpler but making the rocket is half the fun.

  • DOES THE FINS HAVE TO BE AERODYNAMIC?

  • hey u really shouldnt use a elegtric drill u should hand drill it

  • hey your vids are great, i was just wondering if i could get the same hieght if we ued a 600ml plastic bottle with the rocket body halfway inside the bottle and a cose with a self-propelled parachut? your help would be much aprecciated

  • can i use something else for nozel

  • were can you get potassium nitrate sir

  • where did you get the template for the fins in your part 2

  • is this legal? and would this be superior to a standard "estes" motor?

  • @szelle63 it depends where you live, contact your city council, thats what i hear.

  • Hey crazywrx1, Is the piece of paper you have at 5:00 available from the net? Thanks. Great videos.

  • I've followed this exactly and have made 3 rockets so far. First didn't take off coz there wernt enough thrust and just burned on floor, second took a while but did get lift about 3 meters of ground. Those were both stick rockets. The final one was like this one with fins and was a bit longer. Lit it and it was just like a smoke bomb with hardly any smoke and just melted on floor. What am I doing wrong?

  • @tatmac1 it needs to be packed down

  • listen all sugars are not the same try useing dominos confection sugar its pure cain sugar sugar is the fuel in a rocket, some sugars are made with beats like sugar beats, the ratio is 65 %or grams Kno3 to 35 %or grams pure confection sugar, hole size is 5/32 inch or 4 mm, hope this helps, this is for a 1/2 inch PVC and 3/4 PVC you might try one drill size biger for the 3/4 inch PVC pipe, if you need more thrust, have fun keep your rockets flying in a safe area only no trees only open land,

  • Listen me PLEASE! I have made the same exactly with cat litter kn03 bla-bla and when it is lighting there no pressure and it is get fire! Like a smoke bomb! Will i made the hole smaller or bigger?

  • Where in gods name did it go!!!!!

  • HELP PLEASE!

I have now made 8 rockets and they have all exploded. I have been making rockets for a year now and they have been working great. Then I made a few recently that exploded. so I was wondering why they started exploding after they've been working great for the past year. I looked up your video and did everything you said and the plugs just keep blowing out. I even made the plugs 2.5 cm thick and they still exploded. Yes I am using clay cat litter. Please help me.

  • You're a pro at this!

  • Ur ascent is so annoying. No offense

  • @bexiu021294

You're being a real douche to the guy who is helping many of us out so greatly.

No offense though because saying that makes it better.

  • hey i need some help, i tried to make this i used 65% stump remover(i think it was kno3) and 35% powdered sugar.. before i made the rocket i tried to light this mixture in powered form and it didn't light.. is this because

    1. it needs to be packed

    2. it needs to be normal sugar

    3. it wasnt kno3?

  • @tatmac1 doesnt need to be packed

use confectionar sugar (however its spelled)

check the back of the stump remover..

it should probably say "contains potassium nitrate " or explosive or something..

cause not all stump removers have it

  • What did you make the fins out of?

  • @MultiFirecracker

I use 3/32 inch thick sheet balsa wood from the local hobby shop

  • balsa wood

  • @MultiFirecracker Balsa wood .

  • I have 2 questions: What did you make the fins out of? And where did you get that chart to position the fins?

  • where do you get the fuse from?

  • if i want to make a larger kno3 c12h22o11 rocket, how can i recover the rocket safely? how can i get the parachute to deploy?

  • where the hell can you get visco fuse in th uk?

  • hi, great vid !! A couple of questions firstly where do you get visco fuse in the uk? And secondly how high will it go and will it smash when it lands into impact. Thanks please reply asap. thanks

  • @SlashAndBurn666

thx for ur reply ive found a way to purify it but i also found a way 2 make rockets without the 99,9 pure stuff:)

  • great tutorial well done

  • where to buy the fuse?? Your tutorial is great

  • can i get the full instruction of how to make this rocket

  • can u use slo burn fuse

  • @thedragonsprince

The fuse I use (green) is fairly slow - Ideally you would use that for the delay and splice it into fast fuse to ignite the core - that would give more consistant ignition.

  • hi there great tutorial... i have some kn03 fertilizer wich works great for smoke bombs and stuff. but i cant seem 2 make it work in rockets. does it have 2 b 99.9 % pure potassium nitrate b4 it works?

    Thx

  • @mandtan

What seems to be the problem when you try rockets? If you let me know what is happening I may be able to help.

  • @mandtan just a passing opinion, i had some "food grade" KNo3, i certainly wouldn't want anything that impure on my food, have a look at the richard nakka website, he has a purifying method on there that worked quite well for my rockets, though they still don't have quite enough grunt to fly but i can shoot them horizontally :)

  • @mandtan Make sure you use a scale to get the ratio of kno3 to sugar ration right.

  • Hi crazywrx1

Can cardboard tubes be used instead of PVC or would they burn?

    Joe

  • @joeaynsley

As far as I know you can use cardboard so long as it is thick enough to withstand the pressure and your fuel burns quick enough IE it needs to burn from the core outwards not from the bottom to the top. If you don't ignite it properly I believe it will burn in this way.

  • @joeaynsley you can roll your own paper tubes use about 3 pieces of paper length wise( long ways) and that should work

  • @joeaynsley

it will burn mid-flight. You also wont be able to hammer kitty litter and Kno3 into it if you're just thinking Al-foil cardboard tube.

  • if you make the hole to small can they explode

  • @usbtnt

There is probably a complex formula for working out the correct hole size but I use trial and error. If the hole is too large it won't take off. If it's too small then the pressure builds up and blows the plug out.

  • you need a drill press, and a small wire brush. After watching countless vids of people using a hand drill, especially holding that pipe bomb...... Im grabbing my drill press out of the shed from now on. i usually just hand turn my core bit, but im using black powder as well as rocket mix's. I found rocket candy is fun to use as stars. I need to make a mold for rocket candy engines, im usually packing the dam thing when its too dry and my rockets explode.

  • @9DragonMaster

Drill press would certainly help to ensure the core is drilled virtically.

You can buy proper tooling from USA to crompress the powder and form the core at the same time but can't find a UK supplier!?

  • Great videos/ tutorial. Thank you soo much

  • @JoshSetumTV Thank you - glad you enjoyed

  • i live in the uk and cant get hold of any of these items that in the States you can buy from shops, so how could i make a smoke bomb/ rocket/ bomb in the uk out of household things i can buy from stores...? please inbox me

  • @g0dzla5tpk IDK if u have the store lowes in the uk but if not just go to a department store and look for stump remover. If u find some look on the back and if it says contains potassium nitrate than your good

  • @g0dzla5tpk Easiest way is to do an internet search restricted to uk sites only.

  • Using an automatic drill is clearly not the smartest thing to do, you might ignite the mixture.

  • @polanskiman I use a battery powered drill which creates a lot less sparking than a mains poered drill. You should still check the drill bit temperature as your doing the jobthough. If you've got good drill and drill bit you should be able to drill though fairly quickly and so heat build up is minimal.

  • if u do not compress the fuel and it has air pockets .theres an acceleration of oxygen the creates a pressure wave which makes it CATO aka"explode"

  • why do u use clay instead of glue or something?

  • you can use 1% red iron oxide to half the burn time, therefore increasing thrust. That way it won't take off the the space shuttle, and it will take off more like a bottle rocket.

  • @torofighter I haven't tried it but if you do, let m eknow the results

  • i know you must get asked this alot but how many cm wide is the pipe?

  • @baddspella can't remember if its in part 1 or 2 but the pipe is 22mm

  • cool, but isnt 4 fins more aerodynamic?

  • @SgtCuttles it's a bit of a balance between stability and drag - try both and see which is best for you. This is just the way I make them - not the best way. I appreciate the comment and if you have a go please le tme know how you get on. Best wishes.

  • dose your momma know that you r doing this stuff in the garage????lol

  • Hello

Could you tell me how many potassium nitrate & sugar you used for it, how to mix them together ? what is the % of each ?

  • How much kno3 do i use?

  • where did u get the fin alignment sheet from?..cant find 1 anywhere

  • If you put it inside a tube with the back having a spot for the fuse, could you light it and have it go off like an RPG, except without the grenade?

  • Thats really cool!! I made a huge one and it webt really high!!

  • Glad you enjoyed - any chance of you posting video of flight?

  • ya will do! also im designing a smoke grenade out of kno3 and sugar and coloured powdered dye which can be strapped to the rocket and shoots out coloured smoke behind it! ill post that video to.

  • What happens if the mixture is not packed tight? will the air pockets cause it to explode? Any idea how much burn time u got out of this rocket and how high did it go?

  • If the mixture ia not packed tight it disintegrates and comes out of the nozzle with an unimpressive "puff".

Not sure on height but maybe 200 meters?

  • Where can i find potassium nitrate?

  • Great job!!!!!!

What material du you use for the pipe? Is it only sugar and saltpetre you have? Is it normal saltpetre from a food shop?

  • Hi it's sugar and potassium nitrate - not sure if saltpetre is just another name for potassium nitrate?

  • Great job! Could this same principle be used to create a larger rocket, about 50cm in length or does this fuel mix not burn quick enough to generate ample thrust?

  • Do you mean a motor thats 50cm long or just a rocket thats 50 cm?

  • the rocket will be 50cm, the motor will be approximately 70 -80% of this length, similar to yours.

  • I suspect the problems you will have are:

    1) the pressure may be too much and just keep blowing the plugs out.

    2) it may be too heavy

    3) the danger factor will be increased exponentially as the amount of fuel will be maybe 10 times that in my rockets (or even more depending what diameter you use) - so you have a much heavier object with a burning fuel and a lot of energy - risks are explosion or rogue rocket flying straight at you.

I'm sure it's possible but great care would be required.

  • I had a narrow (1 inch) aluminium tube, i thought the narrow chamber may reduce the thrust and slow down the fuel consumption to give a steady long(ish) burn as it climbs to a good height. You've scared me off this idea now lol. Espescially since it would be my first rocket project.

  • Better to start small and light.

I'm no expert on this so if my following comments are wrong hopefully someone will post to correct them:

My rockets use a core burning fuel hence I drill the centre of the fuel. The idea being that the entire length of the fuel burns at the same time from the core to the edges of the tube. Therefore the length determines the thrust and the diameter determines the duration.

If you don't drill the fuel core you get and end burning rocket. This will ................

  • .......... increase the duration of the burn but produces much less thrust. Another benefit of core burning is that by the time the burning fuel touches the motor casing, it is all burnt away so it doesn't burn the casing. With an end burning motor, the casing is getting a lot of heat throughout the burn. I tried a static test on a pvc end burner and it melted the pvc into a banana!

  • The aluminium tube may withstand the heat but its going to be hard if it hits something/someone. You will also have the problem of making the plugs so they don't pop out. Hope this helps.

  • is there an easy way to get potassium nitrate?

  • Not sure where you'd get it from in USA. Google it on the internet.

  • Thanks alot for the video! Great video!

but what specific type of cat litter am i suposed to use? Some kind with clay or somthing?

  • You need to check the cat litter bags as some are made from recycled paper and other such things.

Make sure it's made from natural clay/bentonite. Make sure the clay is ground to a fine powder as this will make a much stronger plug/nozzle.

Let me know how you get on.

  • did you mill your mix

  • Actually what you have done so well is something you may not even realize. You don't use a long stick for stability. You have lowered the fins to the point where you get stability without the extra weight of the stick.

  • HI Thanks. Through reading books and internet research I picked up a few tips on stability. I use a free computer program to predict cg and cp and without moving the fins back I was getting under one calibre of stability. By moving them back it increase to 1.4. This made a big difference to performance. I think it could do with a little more but other than bigger fins dragging behind (creating drag) I'm a little stuck. I tried wider fins but the drag at speed ripped them off.

  • Very nicely done. I enjoyed it.

  • Thanks. My rockets are a bit DIY compared to yours though!
