  • What a wonderful drumline. They really bring it. They are probably one of the best ever. If I'm not mistaken, their Basketball is really good too.

  • whats iwth all the gay tenor visuals?...eww bad taste.

  • Comment removed

  • 2009 msu drumline kicks ass

  • great beat. love the bass fills in the opening

  • what cadence is the groove at 6:21

  • I like the queen cadence

  • I've got tickets for the night game this '09 season! State has always done well under the lights. I have never been to a night game though I had season tickets during most of the '70's.

    Spartan Stadium simply ROCKS!

    GO GREEN! GO WHITE!

    See you at the game.

    "Spartans, what is your profession?"

    :)

Don't forget about this awesome drumline.

    We WILL stomp Iowa!

    Victory for MSU.

  • What will u do at that night?

  • omg....I love this...

  • Congratulations to MSU for making the NCAA Finals in 2009 basketball. We're all cheering for you. I had to hear a great Spartan drumline and this video delivers!

Cheers from an Oakland University (Michigan State University -- Oakland) Alum :)

  • what is that third beat?

  • Its because Murry Gussek wrote Electric Wheel Chair and Double Beat. So there notes will sound the same.

  • they would steal the blackbeat from wheelchair

  • Your dumb that is Santa Clara Double Beat

  • they put wheelchairs beat in the middle dumbshit

  • 4:47

  • yea bro they played wheelchair too brah

  • yeah dude. i played the lowest bass drum and now im on quads. marching band camp is fun but it takes A LOT out of you

  • The Spartan Marching Band is One. They are proud and strong, the best band in the land.

Go Green! Go White! Go State!

  • doode my friend plays snare and he's like as good as you, but he thows his drum sticks arcoss the room *ahem*

  • woah schism this rocks so much

  • oh my flippin god.]

  • haha I love the bohemian rhapsody bit

  • it look like yaull #1 on the chart but i heard there was a philly cat commein down there with philly style so yaull need to stepp yaull game up

  • that was crazy but i heard there a philly cat comeing down there with philly style yall go to step yall game up

  • this is double beat

  • MattHatter, if you ever played in a drumline you would know that instruments are required but not much else. These guys are the best so forget about a dress code when there are practicing. I've watched this band for about 25 years. I dreamed of getting where they are. I would be shirtless too. lol

FenderBassMaster610, yeah, they are humans too. In a few months I'll get a chance to see them warm up and play there way to the stadium again. MSU Vs Wis on Nov. 1st.

  • 2 of my current highschool band teachers and my middle school ones were in the marchingband back in the 70's 2 of them percussion, they now do the alumni band, and they said it is WAY more difficult to get into now than it was back then.

  • This is great but why in the hell would you be without a shirt when your practicing with your drumline?! "Hey everyone, I look HOT when I play the drums!"

  • dude seriously. in my high school band i play snare, its 90 degrees outside on asphalt. it is really freaking hot. plus a 20 pound drum sitting on your shoulders. its not exactly fun. so you go stand outside for 8 hours during the summer with a snare on. then tell me what you think.

  • LOL! I hear ya guy. I figured that was the case anyways.

  • dude that IS fun.... you will learn to appreciate it

  • Oh I appreciate it plenty, in fact I'm watching this right now and I feel like I'm watching an entirely different video from when I first commented. I'm a drummer and I love drum lines. I just know how some kids think they're all that and a bucket of chicken because they have a fit bod, so they show up to practice sessions like this showing off. I was in high school once, I remember those kids that did stuff like that.

  • hahaha word up son.. preaching to the choir. haha

    drumline is my life

  • at 4:00 the guy on tenors who shows no emotion throughout actually shows emotion.

  • I like these warm-ups.

you guys play them really good.

  • omg this is sooo not fake!!! it rox!!!!!!

  • i actually watched the whole thing and that was amazing!!! great job!!!

  • I've watched MSU's drumline for years. I have known of 2 friends to get in. They played the bass drum and the cymbal for State. That is crazy cool. Only the best of the best. Spartan Pride in '08 is going to be better than ever. MARK MY WORDS! I've got my tickets. U of M is going down this year. Go Green! Go White! Let's Go State!

On the backs of the Red Cedar, there's a school that's know to all! SPARTANS, WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION? ...Green and White runs through my viens. GO MSU!

  • haha what the heck. on ditty the only thing that was dirty was the three/shirley murphey part at the end. the beginning was kinda rushed too. i like how they played vanguard parts, but i think if you use parts from a corps or other group you should play them as written. i.e. electric wheel chair groove, basic strokes groove, double beat, etc. i found the audios to be pretty strange, like whooping... i donno, i think thats wierd. pretty clean drumline though.

  • kick ass "Double Beat 2004"

  • go blue

  • go green this is michigan state.

  • Yep, what he said. VICTORY FOR MSU!!!

  • you go mus!!!!

  • i got admitted to MSU for fall 2008...is it hard to get into this?..how can i?

  • MSU has one of the best (if not the) best drumline in collegiate marching bands. I'm no drummer, but I'm sure it's pretty difficult to get into. Not that I'm trying to discourage it or anything... but chances are you'll be on the cymbal line or the pit... but go for it! Practice an hour a day over the summer, memorize the book, and hope for the best!

  • actually msu doesnt have a pit, and the 2 tryout dates are in late april and early may. if you dont make it you can tryout for the big ten flags, and do drumline next year.

  • How come I saw a concert bass drum in one of the videos then?

  • if you were looking at the 1812 overture then it was just for general effects of the song. other than that they dont have a pit.

  • haha based on that comment they must not have a good cymbal line... at vanguard cymbals are the hardest (physically) to get onto. you also have to be able to read and play a whole new style of drum. .... seriously? practice 1 HOUR a day??? ...... you wouldnt get very good like that. if you REALLY want to get on a good drumline then parctice at least like 4-5 hours a day. also to be in a pit is hard. on rack youre doing A TON of crap all the time and mallets is really difficult especially doing 4

  • MSU has any bragging rights they want!! they earned it...

  • look at mark at 4:04 lol

  • i ♥ vince!

  • i like how made up yalls own sticking on some parts

  • SHOW THE SNARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no! watch the SCV 04 DVD thats all it is! the snares are the golden boys! woo hoo!!! they got one drum! lol! jk dude!~

  • To MSU people: stop bragging - it displays your arrogance.

To other people: stop hating - it displays your jealousy.

  • false.

  • To Fervio;

I don't think Murray Gusseck or Scott Johnson would sell their music to the public unless they wanted other Lines to play it and benefit from it. To play these pieces takes a pretty damn decent amount of skill so don't knock MSU.

  • as i recall i was only adding my two cents on what i thought about msu playing these excercises. i did not insult their level of skill. all you bitches make this to be all crazy drama. i was just putting my entitled opinion out.

  • that guys really good at the timpinis they i would have to say are the hardest percussion instrement to play. i know because i have to play them in school

  • "i think it is tacky as hell for them to be playing exercises made famous by other groups"

Not when the SMB does it better than almost everyone else.

  • MSU D-LINE IS TIGHT!!!! HANDS DOWN

  • whatever...point being is that i think it is tacky as hell for them to be playing exercises

made famous by other groups. if they have staff and their own exercises then they need to put those up and not double beat, ditty, and martian

    mambo. lame.

  • Well fervio, if our drumline is lame for playing awesome exercises then your band is lame for playing unoriginal halftime music just like every other band of any sort in the world. Grow up dude, maybe our drumline plays ditty because it sounds freaking sweet.

  • Actually, we get original commisioned arrangements from Wayne Downey, DCI Hall of Famer. If your drumline plays ditty just because it sounds cool, then maybe i shouldnt be the one having to grow up.

  • No I'm just saying all bands play what people know and like. Our band director might write an arrangement for Chameleon or whatever but it's not really original. And I don't know where you come from but if you guys play stuff that doesn't sound cool then maybe your band should start doing so; as I said earlier, people like that.

Hopefully this doesn't get posted twice. lol

  • well look at any RCC drumline clip and tell me if our music doesnt sound cool.

  • I did and it does, so why do you make fun of us when you play stuff you like also? We haven't done anything wrong here and I don't see what the big deal is.

  • Well fervio, if our drumline is lame for playing awesome exercises the your band is lame for playing unoriginal halftime music just like every other band of any sort in the world. Grow up dude, maybe our drumline plays ditty because it sounds freaking sweet!

  • didn't John Webber at MSU march with Murray at SCV? I'm sure Murray wouldn't have a problem with them playing it

  • I thought John Webber marched at Novi?

  • They sound half decent for a college line. Right on!

  • what sticks?

  • it's racalla! =] msu is awesome!

  • Funny joke.

  • ok...you are a ass head

  • This guy has no idea what he's talking about.

  • That's the morning of the Msu Water Polo Team's Spartan invitational. You can see them setting up the pool as the swim team freshman jump off of the 10m.

  • its very very special

  • stop bitching.

  • Wow. I looked up "ignoramus" in the dictionary, and I saw a picture of this guy.

  • wow great line right there at the end a little phasing in the feet but the quads were rocking it!

  • its ok, but where in michigan (hehe just curious)

  • Fervio- Warm ups don't belong to a certain "group" or line. It belongs to the person who wrote it so others have the right to play it. And trust, they have their own.

ryman774- You obviously have no clue what you are saying. To say college lines who play pieces written by DCI writers are bums shows your ignorance, and age.

Go State! Shout out to JSU.

  • I suppose the fact that Jon Weber marched Santa Clara '92 has a big reason on why they play what they play. Mr ryman774 must be a high school kid. He obviously has no college drumline experience, and doesn't realize what it takes to do college band. Spending 3 months on one show makes it a whole lot easier to sound the way they do. Try spending 2 weeks (at best) and having to produce a decent sounding show.

Give it up to the Spartans!

  • why are college lines using a trademark santa clara peice. It sounds shitty as hell while being played on those yamahas. No offense, but college lines don't look or sound as badass as a DCI drumline, so why take the music and try to copy it. It makes you look like a bunch of wannabe bums. seriously.

  • a lot of college drummers are in a dci drumline

  • That's the blue band though, not MSU or IUP or anyone else

  • yeah watch MSU play ditty and stfu.

  • Alright I just want to point out that the so called *SCV* double beat is actually called Reich Drumming, Murray stole that one.

  • murray didnt steal a damn thing. he wrote the piece himself.

  • they obviously play other exercises that are "their own" and they play these as performance type pieces to entertain the crowd. A college marching band's job is to entertain the crowd....that's why they play popular stuff that is known by other drummers.

  • yeah guys lets take everyones warm ups.....get your own.....

  • michigan state fan right here ---- love it!!

  • double beat nice.

  • bad ass!!!!!!

  • AFrotronics

  • this is why i love msu

  • Not bad guys! Bass drum section rocks!!! Go PSU...

  • Gotta luv Double Beat

  • I was shaking my tits to this!Hoot hoot!

  • i went to a drumline clinic at msu in 2006 and they were alot more interesting than in this video. it's probably also alot cooler live. their bass line in quite impressive

  • You guys rock, I have watched you guys play a few times this year (2006) while you practice out at the field and all, I usted to want to go to MSU to join the snare line - seeing as I have a damn good shot.

BUT - I looked into MSU and the price tag is a little much...

NMU FOR ME!!! woop woop go Northern Mighigan University! - ill be there :P

keep up the good work - but when i join NMU *I grad. HS in 2009* watch out :P

  • Hoot!

  • Makes me wish I would have gone to a state university so I could still be in the drumline. I miss being drum captain, and this definately makes me want to never quit playing.

  • I'm in EMU's band and I remember coming on the MSU's practice field and being quite intimidated. Then I heard the drumline I wasn't intimidated. I was actually quite disappointed.

  • transfer to msu and try to make the line

  • Nothing "totally amazing" but some really nice passages and the whole thing was very clean.

  • um this couldn't be 2006, since we haven't played michigan yet and it's 2006 this year

  • Um, it definately says EASTERN Michigan.
