He also almost made the 2, plus there's a wall of balls to hide the cue ball behind as long as he hits the 2 on the left (from his perspective) and doesn't accidentally scratch in the corner hitting it way too thin. In other words, I would not have passed. Having said that, due to the throw effect into the opposite direction, I would not bet on the 9 to go in every time either (balls really need to be squeaky-clean).

I think it was an obvious combination, but it wasn't 100% sure that he'd pot the 9 and maybe leave the ball near pocket. But agree, it was a dumb pass..

Dumbest pass ever. I don't know why you would ever let your opponent ride the 9 in your place, especially when you get a safety if you miss good.
