Definitely agree. I think that many people are just too obsessed with how handsome he is; they don't even pay attention to the singing. Which I think is sad.
Well.. it's hard to replicate that overlapping synth tune loop... but I've managed to create something in the order of that... post it soon for ringtone
This video was animated by Michael Patterson, who also did the "Take On Me" video. Some of the animation in the "Train of Thought" video was taken from his student film "Commuter", which he did in 1981 at Cal Arts.
Great song! They really didn't get enough airplay in the U.S. I think. I've never heard more than a few of their songs and I was in grade school when they were at their popularity peak here. Must say that Morten sounds like David Bowie when he sings the low notes which is awesome, since David Bowie is another of my favorite singers.
I hope there is a way to filter out that high synth tune. It's difficult to reproduce that... somehow it seems to be echoed by playing the same tune by 1/2 beat delay...
Man I wish this type of music was here again. I mean, nowadays most of the people listen to "rock music" which is not that much of a rock music compared to the 80s rock. But A-ha was the best synthpop band and still is in Europe. I like the hairstyles, the clothes, everything. God I want to be in the 80s again... When everything wasn't black...
I live in the Us (am originally from Canada or Missouri, depending on how you look at it) and agree totally. 'Take on Me' was vapid-all due respect to A-Ha-as compared to A-Ha's other work, but of course it was the successful song in consumer driven america.
Drop me a line or respond to this if you want to talk more.
Agreed, westman34! It's sad, very sad. Even more sad is that they couldn't get contracts in the US for some of their incredible, more recent work (Summer Moved On and Lifelines were wonderful).
I think they suffered from too many comparisons to Ultravox and being in the aftermath of bands like simple minds, ABC, Talk Talk, Naked Eyes.... They were great, just a bit late on a scene that was getting a bit tired...
He said he thought they were cool in the 80ies. At a party for the Q award 2006( a-ha won the Q inspiration award), he danced with Magne and told him he loved "Train of thoughts".
Morissey was a fan in the 80ies too (now, I don't know); Chris Martin from Coldplay too...
You country is absolutely beautiful, seen it with my own eyes. Being a native speaker of Norwegian could You perhaps remind me what you call the sweater with this special Norwegian pattern? This question doesn't let me sleep at night.. :)
The dynamic animations matches the beat of the music.. very nice. You can use it for dance music events on a big screen. It still looks good! Is there any other vid clip with this kind of feature? (except dire straits 3d money 4 nothin...)
great idea also to make the video appear sketched at times....like an artist....guess thats why one of their videos was no 2 in best ever....only mj's thriller could beat it....
great song and so typical voice of Morten.. and also cool video.. i love the alternate him in 'real' and 'draw', like with Take on me.. makes something special
A-Ha Rules!! With all the FM radio stations -here in Lima-Peru- currently fully devoted to 80's Rock&Pop: They don't care about these other A-Ha hits!
Stereo 33 UHF had a very powerful Weekly Ranking with the IN Hits back then...
Just fantastic. Along with Cry Wolf one of A-ha's most underrated songs, yet both of them create such emotion and creative feeling with superb video effects, which were way ahead of the time.
Deleted, right? Oh...delete the video itself then.

I'll love to have Morten's hairstyle. This song describes the hard work of office life and all the thoughts that invade your mind while you're in it.

i dont understand how they didn't have many hits in the US their songs are better than alot of songs ive heard from the 80's..wtf America!!!

This song may have been too intelligent for the US airwaves, really. I did not understand this record or the term back when I was a teenager.
