  • Did you guys know that the Colonel is supposed to be Teddy Roosevelt, when he was in the Rough Riders? The Sargent is supposed to be someone, too, but I'm damned if I can remember who. Someone big in Westerns.

  • I remember watching this as a kid. No wonder I can't spell or remember stuff, I have these cartoons filling up my memory bank from my childhood years. Anyway, I laughed my ass off just now especially when that one indian was jumping all around uttering nonsense. And how come noone wonders why the army guys were coyotes? Very funny

  • I still get a kick out of these cartoons as an adult. The silliness of it makes me laugh.

  • This was always one of my favorite childhood cartoons

  • Now how the fuck would two gophers have technology to build a rocket that could go to the moon? What about the Van Allen belts?

  • @DJstoopnig -- So what? Wild Wild West was full of anachronisms. 1 episode had a disintegrating laser bean long before the lightbulb was invented. Another episode had a villain using a motorized tank long before the 1st aoutomobile was invented.

  • @WytZox1 lol

  • The soldiers are the ones looking stupid not the "injuns" And as Tonto would say" how Kemosabe"Remember the Frito Bandito and Speedy Gonzales? Anyway this is F Troop turned into a cartoon!

  • @dontferg -- Actually the Colonel was the goofy one. The Sgt. seemed intelligent yet had to go along, albeit reluctantly, with the Colonel's orders.

  • Chief Running Board? Ruffled Feathers? The names alone were Great, along with Col Kit Coyote & Sgt Okey Homa. Occasionally ,there was 'General Nuisance'. Stuff was Great!!!

  • That soldier sounds a lot like matthew mcconaughey.

  • @TheTruePhoenixxx Or moreover,Mathew sounds like him!!

  • The Indians were clearly the smart ones, they were always under estimated by their opponent, the kernel (spelling incorrect on purpose) who though they were dumb. This is actually a story on how you should NEVER underestimate someone because of their race.

  • Niw that we've got all these politically correct, sanitized cartoons.....nothings funny anymore.

  • I fully admit that these cartoons are racist, but racist in a way that an urban indian/Apache kid could laugh out loud at! In my favor (dumb army /smart native)

  • All of the cartoons from that era were the best cartoons ever. Just silly no PC to worry about. Like MyName said is the post below. Some of these cartoons make you laugh so hard it hurts.

    Good Stuff!

    Exit....Stage Left

  • So there have been charges that this is Un-PC. Try to remember folks that the Gophers were the smart ones and not The Col and his Sergeant.;-D

  • The funniest one was when the gophers joined the fort. They were marching and I almost die laughing so hard.

  • Is Red Skelton the voice of Running Bog in this cartoon?

  • The old cartoons were great. Just silly, funny cartoons that made you laugh. All of the people that think it's so important to be P/C simply don't get it. In fact they are ignorant. Just look at our young people today. No respect, no morals, every other word that comes out of their mouths starts with an "F". The scary part.....What's next for this generation....Gay cartoons?

  • @MrAxis777 Like Snagglepuss?

  • I remember this cartoon! I was born way back in 62! No politically correct crap back then!

  • I work in this warehouse with these dudes who kind of look like the gophers and don't speak a lot of english and my hillbilly boss is always like "well , where's the go go gophers at?" haha.

  • What'd he say?????????, lol

  • Comment removed

  • @bahwheat Him Say "Gopher Indians are Funny as Hell!"

  • Comment removed

  • Remember when there was no politically correctness? When we could just have fun? When there was just silliness, not the calculated nastiness of today's kids who scream curses and insults at each other and don't respect anyone. My generation had silly cartoon Indians. Today's kids have hiphop, Southpark, and Justin Bieber. Is it any wonder that they're worthless and are utterly without moral character.

  • @1niftyjay -- Why do U hate Justin Bieber? He's no worse then the teen idols of our childhoods.

  • @WytZox1 the bealtes were great. so were the j5 & the sones & the monkees. i really don't think bieber will be talked about 40 years from now

  • @1niftyjay every previous generation says the same sh!#....you would have said the same thing against rock and roll i`m sure

  • I guess I can't see it without thinking of the conflict in Viet Nam.

  • I LOVE THIS CARTOON!! I used to watch this when I was little, I'm 14 and still call this my favourite.

  • "What your idea?" "Gooba gooba looba looba gooba looba loo!" "Hoopie doopie! We have-um big fun!"

  • The voice of the Chief was George S. Irving, who was best known as the guy in the old White Owl cigar commercials that usually ended with "Once you try a White Owl . . . we gotcha!" Col. Kit Coyote was voiced by Kenny Delmar, who was also the voice of Commander McBragg in that series of cartoons.

  • At 1:30, Chief Ruffled Feather and Running Board are hitting the crack pipe when good old Running Board lets out with a crack-inspired burst of gibberish - "Gooba gooba looba looba gooba looba", etc. Those two little bastards were high as a kite! I finally get it!

  • I agree, I love it.and I remember it from years ago, i am older than dirt

  • @NYGHTCRUZER I remember it too. It's from 1968 or thereabouts. I'm only 51, so you can't be "older than dirt". However, I do believe that we may both have attended High School with Moses . . .

  • @elc1960

yeah, Moses was one of my best friends.....

    Im 49

  • Anyone who thinks this one just makes fun of the INDIANS should listen to those buffalo jokes.

  • my older brother use to sing this theme song to me when I was little.

  • This is almost unbearable to watch now.

  • @prestush

Why, because the Indians always outsmart the stupid Colonel?

  • This is almost unbearable to watch now.

  • "The army requires blind obedience." Genius.

  • @Heidibear76 "Well, ah'm blind obedient now, Kernel" Good one-liners, much better than the stuff they make nowadays.

  • I'm part Cherokee, and I think its hilarious!!!!

  • I remenber this cartoon from the 6O's. It was not intented to make fun of the American Indians. It was a stataire on the Army during the Veitnam Era.

  • funny cartoons without violence or blow em up or killin each other.SIMPLE FUNNY CARTTONS!,now adays kids have to have all kinds of crappy, stupid stuff,I guess our generation had imagination and that was a good thing

  • :52 - :58

    Just 2

    TOO, TOO

  • THEE most ACCURATE portrayal of indians i've EVER seen!!

  • i love how the Sgt. sounds like George Clooney!

  • 1:34

You send him message to Cornel?

    "BEH DA BEH DA BEH"

    You hid him message?

    "BEH DA BEH DA BEH"

Oh, YOU HIT him with mesage.

  • as a kid, i always thought that both this show and f-troop pretty much showed how dumb the white man really was

never could figure out how they ended up beating the native americans

  • i'm 54 years old ...when i was a kid i watched underdog and go-go gophers was my all time favorite cartoon... i'm so glad to find these episodes on here..classic stuff... also secret squirrel, atom ant, quick draw mcgraw, huckleberry hound, rocky & bullwinkle.. these were all great to watch on saturday and sunday mornings. i have no idea what kids watch today... so glad these were on when i was young....

  • @krunkpup In other words, we had the best cartoons of all generations. Except Clutch Cargo. Gawd that was pretty bad. Can be viewed here on the Tube.

If you are born in the mid-1950's, will you still be watching these type of cartoons when we are in our 80's? I hope so since we are the first cartoon generation.

And don't forget The Beatles, Star Trek, Space Ghost, The Bugs Bunny Show, Jetsons, Flintstones, etc, etc, etc!

  • just 2, t-o-o too LMAFO

  • I'm Native American, and I always liked this cartoon. For all we knew, the US Gov'ment probably had a contract with Ruffled Feather and Running Board to keep the fort busy so the colonel couldn't do any real damage somewhere else.

  • *All New "Go Go Gophers" 3D

  • This was a great episode. I read the comments on how today's broadcast stations wouldn't air this. Well...Chicago is. Just two weeks ago WWME-LD 23.1 (branded as MeTV) began airing Go Go Gophers episodes during "the Underdog Show" Sunday mornings at 10:30am. In fact, they aired this episode last week with the original title card instead of the 1990s Classic Media remixed title card shown here. Also, the theme song was played in its entirety.

  • This cartoon would be banned from television today. You can't have funny Indians on Tv, even if they're smarter than the cavalry -- and even if they're really gophers.

  • Go-Go Gophers

The FIRST time I ever saw the indians actually win.

  • They'd never put a cartoon like this on the air nowadays. The PC police would have a field day. It's unfortunate. When I was a child this was just innocent fun. And the indians always won.

  • What does "Bully" Mean?

  • @AaronBruceLadner the Colonel is a caricature of Teddy Roosevelt, who said that a lot

  • This is probably a metaphor for U.S. military failure in the Vietnam war

  • They're CARTOON ANIMALS. Jeez.

And they TALK too. Or should I say Someone's Doing Their Voices.

The defense rests, it's pathetic that they needed any.

  • this is cooler than a fan!

  • Hey Everybody, why don't we all just enjoy this great cartoon. If you don't like it don't watch it!

  • People just dont GET IT--when they created this---NO ONE and i MEAN no one was sitting around saying "Lewt's MAKE FUN of Indians ". They just thought "hey let's do a cartoon with two crazy Indians who are smarter than the Army" That is ALL. There is NO malice in this cartoon..politically correct people grt over it.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic NO ONE except Native Americans. Just like NO ONE but NO ONE thought white men putting on a black face with white paint on their lips singing "Mammy" was insulting to African-Americans... and who cared if it was. Yeah, you learn to "get-over-it", but that doesn't mean you overlooked it.

  • @amuslima99 What are you talking about? This is a DUMB cartoon, invented by LESS than highly intelligent men. It is not racist . It is just stupid. The fact the Indians WIN and are SMARTER than the Non Indians should put to rest any "racism". And to even compare this cartoon to how African Americans were depicted in films in the Golden Age of Cinema...is beyond unfair. The people who should be OFFENDED are parents of speech impaired or handicapped people--as the one Indian is speech impaired

  • @DavelovesRealMusic I'm referring to the cartoon only in a sense of what people will put out there-NOT thinking if it would or might offend someone. The cartoon is just one instance. The men in black face, which I saw an old commerical shown on TV (in the retro commercials channels here) for a beer ad, I believe, is another instance.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic ya don't like it don't watch it.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic I agree.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DavelovesRealMusic The indians make idiots out of the army and that is making fun of them.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic yes, but by today's standards, it's not cool. Think of how southerners feel everytime they're portrayed as redneck simpletons in the mass media. How would you feel if you were a Native American watching this?

I do agree with you that the malice wasn't intentional, and I"m not suggesting that stuff like this be hidden from our kids. But you're a fool if you think this isn't perpetuating stereotypes. This cartoon should be used as a teachable moment, not censored.

  • @matthewzin The only stereotype is that they are dressed as Indians....they outwit the Colonel and his men over and over making them the winners and smarter pair vs the 'white men". In the 60's that is just how Indians were shown...it was done on F TROOP and THAT was not racist, it was funny. If you can not appreciate the HAKAWI indians on F troop as a parody and not demeaning then you will o find F troop and this cartoon racist and stereotypical. I only find it sterotypical but NOT racist.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic sorry - did I say anything about racist? At any rate, how many Native Americans do you know talk like "him reply to youtube comments"? Actually, do you know any Native Americans? Is there any evidence suggesting that they are worse at grammar and language than anyone else? Again I ask: how would an NA feel after watching this. There are stereotypes all over this cartoon - not just NA's I might add. But to tell you the truth, I like this cartoon. I used to watch it

  • @DavelovesRealMusic Also for the record - I taught 2.5 years in the Navajo Nation. Not once did I ever see an Indian - from any tribe - dressed like this. I'm not trying to take away from the joy you feel in watching this. Call it what you want - funny, nostalgic, nicely animated - just don't call it an accurate portrayal. Like i say, I'm actually agreeing with you in a way.

  • @matthewzin OK we agree it is sterotypical and portrays ONE Indian as "mentally or verbally challenged" which is more of an insult to stuttering people than Indians...I am tired of the excuse " but we didnt have 20 other non verbally challanged Indian././I think we are NOT to take it to mean All Indians are verbally or mentally damaged. This may be in POOR TASTE, no matter what nationality.. I bet they could still get away with making them Indians today but NOT verbally challenged. It's wrong.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic: Mentally Challenged? He spoke a different language, but he was always outsmarting the Colonel.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic Did you seriously type "Verbally Challenged" good lord it's a cartoon quit getting all butt hurt over it.

  • @ferret300 Is he not "verbally challenged"? he is what he is...and what word would you use for it? mumbling? retarded? You misjudge..I am not hurt ofr offended by it...I was pointing out this kind of character would not be allowed on a childrens cartoon anymore... maybe on South Park...but NOT ON Saturday mornings or a major network...

  • @DavelovesRealMusic : I'm older and of Native American ancestry and this cartoon never bothered my family or me. We're suburban Indians and really, we get the jokes. lol

  • @DavelovesRealMusic Absolutely correct! AAA+++ ....Chris Yambar

  • @DavelovesRealMusic: Indeed, given that the fall guy was always "Colonel Kit Coyote", you would think they would like it.

  • I love Go Go Gophers!!!

Yeah, pullspit comment, but I HAD TO SAY IT.

  • this came out during the vietnam war so i will go out on a limb and say it s a shot a t the army maybe the indians are suppose to be the vietnamese. love this when growing up.better than the shit that passes today

  • Wow! as a kid i had no idea how subversive this was! Taking shots at the army, actually depicting indians as having been wronged, and seeing the colonel obviously spinning it. Great stuff!

  • Ronin, are you stupid? This cartoon shows indians as resourceful, skillful and most importantly smarter than the white soldier sent to oppress them. This isn't ant- indian, its anti-army, maybe anti-white, but the indians win. Are you even a native american? or are you just a busibody who needs more to do, so you don'tannoy the rest of us who are just trying to have fun? You irritate me.

  • Point is, you laugh at the stereotypical stuff. You have to be 47 years old to analyze this, where a child will need a parent to explain why it is not ok to depict indegenous people as bumbling idiots with goofy names and feathers. But if you would let your kids watch this stuff in the first place, why bother explaining right? I like political cartoons, which this seems to be, but what is it saying about tribes? The military? Have your fun, though. And yes, I am Oneida. Google it.

  • @ronintwenty4seven This stereotypical stuff makes me sick. It makes white people look so stupid and gives them goofy names. How dare we make fun of white people. I like political cartoons but not If they make any kind of fun at me. We should not have freedom to make fun of others. And then lets take other freedoms we have if some one else doesn't like them. NOT! FREEDOM Google it

  • @aerowayne1 === Exactly...I think idiots like you have helped me prove my point...enjoy your day

  • @ronintwenty4seven Thank you so much I think a moron like you proves my point and thank you for showing every one this. IT'S simple cartoon they makes fun of every one. But you are to simple minded to understand this. And don't watch it if you don't like it. God Bless

  • @aerowayne1 dude its just a cartoon stop bitching

  • The Gopher Indians are Funny as Hell!!

  • It's funny how everyone on here seems to promote the stereotypical depiction of Indegenous tribes, and want their kids to be able to view this stuff so they can have the same perception on these people. What a shame. I hate to be a broken record, but imagine if they depicted blacks, jews or the various white cultures in this type of cartoon and see what happens. Why is it politically correct to put native tribes in this light but no one else. Again, a shame. It is funny, but shamefully.

  • @ronintwenty4seven - you're an idiot.

  • LTM (laugh to myself) You old timers are funny...

  • Awesome, and we wonder why today's kids are so emo and full of all unstable drama that goes with their nurturing. I say give them more of this wholesome entertainment and set them free.

  • Thanks for posting this. I've often described this cartoon to people, and they'd never heard of it. They were starting to think I was making it up.

  • OMG! Ruffled Feather and Running Board! i loved this cartoon when i was a kid. thanks for posting this. ah...i miss the good old days...with REAL cartoons and not the crap you get today. glad i have YT and Boomerang!

  • he hehehehehe WHOOPIE DOOPIE!!!! lol : )

  • gophers at a gang bang

  • Thank you for great cartoon instead of the crap they try to make us watch now a days I can't even let my 7 year old watch Cartoon network alone to adult it is a shame they do that to us . Thank you from a real cartoon fan

  • mmm the old times :,)

  • Include the intro song next time. That's hard to find on here.

  • As an Iowa Hawkeye fan, I like to make fun of the Minnesota Gophers by singing the theme song from this cartoon.

  • I still can't believe the late, great Sandy Becker voiced Ruffled Feathers. His dialogue (?) was hysterically funny!

  • yup, I remember watching these after school.

  • Nonsense! The Army requires blind obedience!

  • Bring back memories.

  • i loved this cartoon.

  • "No, No No, Sir, just two, T-O-O, two."

  • i havnt seen this in over thirty years and whoopie doopie it still afunny!!!!!!!

  • I probably watched this as a kid becuz I watched Under Dog.But for some reason I don't remember Go Go Gophers

  • Ruffled Feather always makes me laugh whenever he speaks.

  • It was my favorite cartoon as a kid.

When I later saw Gary Cooper as Sgt York and Teddy Roosevelt in Buffalo Bill I'd say "hey...that's the Sgt (or) that's the colonel!"

  • Whoopie-Doopie we have'um fun!!

  • You gottum um plan ?

  • They probably wouldnt be able to make a cartoon like this these days, because its not "Politically Correct".

  • Yeah but at the time it was actually one of the very few shows or movies that depicted aboriginals as the good guy and winning.

  • Thats a damn shame, too .Its not like any of us who watched them turned into evil, murderous haters.Kids would be better served today watching these instead of the crap that passes for entertainment today

  • I love Running Board

    He's funny & he talks gibberish :]

This was what I miss from my childhood

  • id like to hear the intro song

  • they would never be able to make cartoons portraying Native Americans like this today. Gotta admit, it is funny though

  • What I would like to see is the introduction. The song had a line;' here comes the Col. with his sergent, both are a-roaring and a-charging"

  • This was the first episode produced, originally seen on "THE UNDERDOG SHOW" in the fall of 1966. Kenny Delmar is "Col. Kit Coyote", Sandy Becker is "Sgt. Okey Homa" [originally, he used a slight "John Wayne" intonation for that voice, but Wayne's lawyers sent a "cease and desist" order to TTV/Leonardo, because Sandy sounded too close to the real "Duke"] and "Running Board" [the "double-talking" gopher], and George S. Irving (also "Underdog's" narrator) was "Ruffled Feather".

  • Now that is "injunuity"!

  • Great, simple animation!

  • You makem kernel mad at moon. You em genius!

  • thank you for having this up! they are so fun!

  • Thanks for the Moon Zoom video. I would like to see more Go-Go Gophers videos!
