  • @flyinghigh99999. I too remember the days when kids made go karts out of scrap wheels from an old pram, marbles, conkers, tig, hopscotch. Tizwas on Saturday. Those were the days!

  • Thanks, this is great! Gave me flashbacks to 'the clangers', and " it's Friday, it's 5 to 5, and it's crackerjack!" suddenly rolled across my mind! The 70's were a truely special time!

  • Thanks!!

  • and the public information films..lol

the one with the monk used to scare the living shite out of me..never went near water :D

  • I wanna go back too...action man, eating spangles, sitting in front of the TV on a saturday morning waiting for the six million dollar man to start, commando comic books for 8p, airfix model kits for a pound...playschool, bagpuss, fingermouse, bod, grandstand with eddie waring commenting on the rugby, world of sport with dickie davis, starsky and hutch, citizen smith...POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!, some mothers do have em, morcambe and wise, the liver birds , tommy cooper, dick emery

    great days...

  • just for those 5 minutes i went back in time and shed a tear. Im a grown man now, but i dont care! Theres something very special about being a 70's and early 80s child. Tarzy's, tree climbing, beck jumping, building go-carts with any scrap you could find. Huckleberry finn, grange hill, Why dont you! Bagpuss, the moomin trolls, that finger bobs guy scared the hell outa me but still loved it.

Treasured memories for us 70's and 80's kids. I wanna go back!!!

  • .....just makes me want to curl up on the sofa, with Mr Bear and a cup of hot milk, Mum's voice drifting through from the kitchen....rain pattering on the window, warm and safe, not a care in the world. Why do we have to grow up.

  • Are these shows from Britain? I don't remember any of these,

  • Brilliant! And I still have my Womble pillowcase wont part with it for anyone

  • Im a 90's kid, but I was bought up watching a lot of these :3

  • is there someone that remembered a mechanic/metallic owl in a tv series from the 70's (not Bubo in "Clas of the titans),and the movement was similar like in "The phoenix and the carpet" too??!!

    Thanks!

  • I remember the Wombles ran on TVOntario.

  • Does anyone remember 'Ragtime'? It opened with a little cloth man playing frantically on a little stuffed cloth piano. It had Fred thingy in it as a presenter with a lady who was rather elegant. There was a kind of Humpty character (like a stuffed cushion) who used to dream in clouds above his head.. and there were lots of wooden spoon 'dolls'.

Thank you for posting this lovely little collection of some truly magical shows,

  • @squarefacehardhead I remember ragtime. With Fred, 'thingy', Harris. The Lady who accompanied him was one Maggie Henderson. The most famous song was one about, 'Ricky in his aeroplane.' The humpty character you remember was called, 'Bubble', as he was round. The spoons were named after food items, as I remember. There was also a rock 'n' roll character who looked like Jimi Hendrix.

  • Does anyone else remember 'Ragtime'? It opened with a little cloth man playing a little stuffed cloth piano. It had Fred thingy in it as a prsenter. There was a Humpty style character who dreamed in bubbles, and lots of wooden spoon 'dolls'?? Also there was an elegaint lady presenter... I can't find a clip anywhere. These were magical shows and thank you so much for posting this little collection.

  • Rhubarb & Custard was one of the first programmes I saw on colour TV!

  • Anyone remember some animated kid's TV show with some haunting pipe music at the beginning?

  • Bod looks just like Karl Pilkington!!!!

  • funny to see how different UK kids shows were from American kids shows. Heard the wombles referenced several times in my favorite britcom "The Vicar of Dibley". Now I finally get it. LOL

  • what a better time to be a child wish my children could have the same times i did great telly and much safer life

  • the good old days

  • Bagpuss... sigh... <3

  • where is Candle Cove?!

  • Are you tired of all the children cartoons?

    If so ocheck out watch?v=KEAQZlzLRJ0

  • Oh, God, I haven't watch "The Wombles" in like forever!

  • These were children's programmes, unilke some of the, 'probationary adults', programmes, broadcast today. Why can't children be treated as such?

  • Lovely gentle programmes was what I meant to say !!

  • Bloody fantastic !!! So many happy memories, loved Bagpuss 'but Emily loved him'. Lively gentle programmer from when I was little

  • I don't know any of these shows. Didn't they show Fat Albert, the Superfriends,or Land of the Lost in England?

  • Suri Cruise >just out of the womb and already dressing like a teenager! No childhood anymore. The world is screwed up!

  • Kids today are spoilt ,selfish demanding little brats, looking more like their dolls, the bratz. They need more shows like these. Bloody hell this generation needs some decent shows like the 70's

  • Kids today are spoilt little monsters They need more shows like these.

  • Anyone British and over the age of 30 will recognise most, if not all, of these programmes. Shown at either 1:45pm after Pebble Mill, (or the lunchtime news), or at 5:40pm just before the early Evening News on BBC1.

  • BOD = Karl Pilkington

  • Thank You!!

  • Remember Bill and Ben? Play House,

  • Remember Bill and Ben?

  • missed everywhere after you say that lol i remember every one of them even though i'm 20 thanks mum

  • Memories!!! Does anybody remember a kids show from the 70s called "Elephants eggs in a rhubarb tree"? Cant find it anywhere on youtube!

  • Interesting how mellow and often slow paced some of these shows were, lovingly made and sweet.Later we got things like thundercats and transformers which were more action and fighting.I liked them at the time but when you see them now there really preachy and patronizing with annoying morals. And they all ended with everyone laughing at a none joke.

  • cambellwick green?,

  • Happy, happy days :)

  • Thank You for sharing this. In Los Angeles and Hollywood none of these were ever seen. The only British shows we had were Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fireball x5, Marty Feldman's Comedy Machine, Thunderbirds, The Avengers, Space 1999, and a few others. It is really nice to see Soviet, French, German, and Chinese programming as well from time to time - So much Japanese influence on animation in United States T.V. nowadays.

  • everyone a classic

    loved em all

  • Ah Bagpuss dear Bagpuss...

  • omg, love this video, makes me feel old tho, thanx lol.

  • Thanks for lovely memories :0)

  • Brilliant! Loved all those shows... Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  • Fantastic, anyone who watched these programmes as a child will understand, what a feel good factor!

  • Wonderful shows..all of them! Actually these shows were seen here in the United States, as well. Bagpuss was the one I loved most of all. Thank you for posting this!

  • Great memories do you remember ,Pipkins, now that was good lol.

  • Every one a warm and fond memory. Except Rhubarb and Custard....the theme tune gave me nightmares :/

  • thanks for putting this together!

  • 'Tear in my eye yet?' YES! Bagpuss was the one that did it! Makes me laugh too, I'm a child of the 70s and 80s, but a teen of the 90s and know for sure that at least two of those theme tunes were made into rave tunes, blew my whistle to them a good few times! Aww, 70s, 80,s and 90s, wonderful decades... what went wrong!!? :((

  • Thanks for posting these. I blame all these for the way i am today lol.

  • no comptuers in the 70's easy life

  • Great job. Unfortunately, I missed these shows. Born in 1966 in Luton, Beds. Moved to Canada in 1973. Grew up with the North American tv diet. But I do remember the Flaxton Boys and The Pursuaders. One comment mentioned Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings. I watched that here in Canada too.

    Good times. Take care all!

  • Omg, I used to love all of these children's programs, brings back such happy memories. I wish they would bring these back on tele now as they're calming, happy and full of fun. Unlike today's cartoons. Thanku for uploading.x

  • all these are great memories - thank you for sharing!

  • Dear me and they say that nostalgia isn't all it's cracked up to be! Nonsense! Suddenly,I'm a pre-school 'nipper' again! Thanks for the memories!!!

  • Being born (1965) and raised in the United States I have no idea what I just watched....it is great that no matter where we grew up and what we grew up with everyone has special memories of their childhood and their favorite shows!

  • Always good to see what Mr Benn used to get up to before he went into Politics

  • You never forget what made your childhood happy. These cartoons played a big part of me growing up. HAPPY DAYS they were and im sure i speak for most people who were nippers when they were on tv.

  • Our kids today are missing out on these great shows.

  • I was born in 1965, i am 44. I remember every single one of these shows like it was five minutes ago. I loved these shows. Life was good then.

  • superb.

im 42 so was dead on for seeing these when they were on the tv.

    brian cant =quality.

i think he did camberwick green as well? 'our MR dagenham he can sell anything anything money can buy'

MR dagenham had a helicopter,i think..

i lived in dagenham at the time!

i think emily in the opening scenes of bagpuss is oliver postgates daughter??

got all the bagpuss episodes on 1 VHS from ebay years back, and my kids totally loved them!!!

jamie and his magic torch had nice wah guitar!!

  • That was a weird experience...

  • i remember watching these and then going to play out,no worries in the world!!

  • I grew up with all of these show when I lived in Blackburn. WOW, now being in Florida and getting such a flash back is great. Thank you.

  • Is it me, or WAS life just better back then?

  • @jakobgrimminger yes, of course it was! Simpler, more direct and more honest! :)

  • @jakobgrimminger Life was better then. To me, from the mid 50s to the early 80s was a great time to be American. Yes, we still had war and troubles but, the 70's especially, seem like a great time in history. If we could reverse time I'd go back to either the 60's or the mid 1800's. :)

  • These kinds of cartoons scare me a bit for some reason.

  • Excellent memory

  • brian cant rocks

  • Oh these poor kids today - perhaps I'm biased, but back then it was really about being a kid... nowadays it's violent X-Box games and Wii! I think we had it much better! :)

  • For some reason I suddenly remembered 'Bagpuss' today. I'm 37 so that's a few years since I last thought of it. Thanks for this - and all the other memories! Where's Andy Pandy though??!

  • those were the days when i would go round e mates houses and the mums would get out the dilute orang that had the faintest taste ever .quality show u could actually watch and undertstand not like now ...bring this quality back..

  • I was born in the 80s but it doesn't matter what year you are born in as long as you can see what quality is. All those shows are just so lovely and BOY listen to those themes. Aren't they just beautiful? Magic Roundabout is still something I can't get out of my head and I'm sorry to say that but I LOVE the Bagpuss intro - I think it's the best about every episode :-P

  • @MarkP0rter I was born in 1997 and yet I still got the wonderful oportunity to watch things like The wombles, Ivor the engine and Trumptons! but all of those videos a broken now :(

    Rip Childhood videos 1998-present!

  • fantastic, sorry to see you omitted the "godfather" of that era ....the undisputed champion of "kids tv" the one the only mr. hartley hare fighting out of the pipkins corner. a genius in brown "fabric"!

  • man this rocks

  • Did anyone else bark with Roobarb as he climbed the tree?

  • loved this, thankyou

  • remember every one of these with a fondness....wonderful innocent days!!

  • Magic Roundabout is 1960s - it began on 18/10/1965 - the day I was born! I always raise a glass to it on my birthday!

  • spy4863, you must seek out Bagpuss. It was a magical series. I'm sure it's on DVD.

  • they say that bagpuss is coming back on tv but the old ones are the best still

  • some of these shows are 60s.

  • I'm from The United States. I've never heard of most of these shows (Except I HAVE heard of The Wombles), but I find these to be very fascinating. It seems like they would have been much better than the glut of forgetable, mindless, formulatic cartoons that flooded the US airways in '70's.

  • The Kids tv of the 70s was wonderous.

Never any violence, just a wealth of fun, friendly and educational viewing,

  • I remember Dr Who being criticised for being increasingly violent in the 1970s - particularly a scene involving the Doctor being almost drowned by an attacker. And The Tomorrow People used to terrify me.

  • You can hardly compare dr who with bagpuss, trumpton, fingerbobs etc.

They were the kids tv programmes i meant!

  • total classics

  • this is great thanks it brings back good days as a kid then. watching all of them after school thanks

  • magic round about was awsome and so was the wombels and rubard and custard and ivor

  • BOD!!

  • Bring them back. Might calm down a new generation. They might even stop stabbing each other.

  • @roryfromlondon your right there

  • great to see these shows again thank you xx

  • Must be a British thing ... I didn't recognize any of it. Where's Sesame Street and Fat Albert? Or the Flintsones, Jetsons, Scooby Doo, etc?

  • Yup, these were all shown on the BBC during the 70's. Although, there was plenty of American programmes shown, too. I guess there must have been a few British ones shown in the States, but, unfortunately, none which featured here.

  • Yes, these are the British shows, sorry! We did have the shows you mention; well all except Fat Albert, I think.

Most British 30-somethings look back and remember the shows in this film :o)

  • There were also many American children's TV programmes shown here as well. I can add a couple more - The Pink Panther, Banana Splits, The Monkees (60's I think?) but who or what was 'Fat Albert'?

  • Fat Albert was a cartoon from the 70's-80's that was hosted by Bill Cosby. Haaba fabba Albert!

  • bagpuss was the dogs

  • its great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • heres a question, what emily from bagpus doing now.?...love the vids by the way...

  • Even if I am technically a child of the 80's I love all of those especially "BAGPUSS!!" MOST ADORABLE CAT IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD !!!and much tearing up throughout the whole thing ! thnk u

  • Omg I use to watch the Wombles as a kid :P

But I was born in 1993, they obviously repeated the show a few years later.

    I loved it.

  • they repeated all of those cause i watched them when i was little n i was born in 1992 :P xxxxxx

  • I am very glad and feel extremely privileged to have grown up in England during this time. The programmes for children were far superior to anything they had on in the States. What about Jackanory, Blue Peter, Simon (in the land of chalk dawing) and of course my favorite of all time Rupert the Bear. I would go crazy to see him!!

  • No one remembers Simon in the land of chalk drawing, it was my favorite!!

  • Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings used to come on in the States during Captain Kangaroo! I watched it as a child and for years the song was stuck in my head until I found it again on here! I used to teach a child named Simon and I would sing the song to him almost daily

  • @ttarget Let's not forget Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men, Sooty and Andy Pandy....

  • Yes, very lovely and kind of sad to see all these things especially if you dont live in the UK anymore. Can anyone tell me if they remember a tv programme on in the day that i thionk was called "The magic Bow" or something like that.. the theme music was this beautiful waltz which i'm trying to track down.

thanks for this lovely sentimental video.

  • everyone keeps saying that we need to return to morals... every generation says that. Thats when you know you are getting old!

I do enjoy these tho. Very calm and soothing for kids

  • here comes bod.....but hartley hare will kick his ass....

  • I've lived in New York for the past 18 years, and every so often, think about all the things I miss about England ( born and bred in North Yorkshire ). This most definitely brought a tear to my eye!!!

  • thx for the comment. I'm from Northallerton !

  • Ha! Wherever did you get all these clips Northallerton?? Do you have any 'Barnaby the Bear' ??? I'm from Scarborough! Bet you went there on holiday , or at least for a day trip, and ride on the donkeys !!!

  • Barnaby the bear's my name, never call me Jack or Jane....

  • Come home, Filey misses you!

  • @JENNYDAVENPORT68 Born and drug up in N Yorkshire too! Wombles, Bagpuss, The Magic Roundabout...how innocent were we...

  • @JENNYDAVENPORT68 Born and drug up in N Yorkshire too! Wombles, Bagpuss, The Magic Roundabout...how innocent were we... I'm from Harrogate!!

  • thanks for the wonderful memories they will always remain in my heart THANK YOU AGAIN.

  • many thanks for this video and r.i.p oliver postgate.

  • They bring a tear to my eye too. It's the innocence in society and in ourselves we grieve, that these programmes remind us of when we were small and full of wonder at the world. We all recognise the awful changes that have happened in the world, but it's more than this. It's something we've lost in ourselves; a sense of magic about being alive that our parents saw and loved in us. That's why it's such a joy to return there in watching these clips.

  • yes i totally agree with you... i personally find myself argueing with everybody. I find everyones lack of sensitivity towards each other, the enviroment and animals negatively breathtaking.

  • It could be a stage in humanity's development. Once a critical mass of people see the reasons for it, and they become more widely known, it will reverse itself. These things are but a symptom of something far deeper; an outward expression of something seriously wrong with the way we exist as humans.

Some of us love good things and we have to be the dominant force in the world.

  • I was born in 66 and the only one I remember, from what you've listed, was H.R. Puff N Stuff

  • oh ma gosh! i remembered all of those many great memries thanks

  • That was wonderful. Made me cry a bit, I do miss those days :'-) thank you x x x

  • That was fun. Thanks for posting.

  • l loved the 70s kids tv programs.

  • wot no pipkins....hartley hare rocks.......

  • I agree with viviene 1971...the good old days, i now have kids of my own and you can watch these on sky.

I remember the 70's for innocence and being allowed to be a kid. Not like now...what will happen in another 30 years??

  • We're starting to realise on many levels, the old ways are better, from farming to education and morals. I think we'll see a return to this golden age of innocence-in our lifetime. I think we'll see some changes for the better..and soon.

  • Thank you! Gorgeous.

  • I remember them all! What a wonderful trip down memory lane this video is.

  • The only one I remember on this is BOD. That was a GOOD show! :P

  • so many memories great

  • they dont invest in good qulaity kids tv now ....its mostly poor toy tooons and american inports

  • there is deffinetly a tear in my eye i havnt seen mr.benn since i was maybe three i didnt even remember it but as soon as i saw it loads of memories flooded back thank you because lately i have been wondering where did my child hood go it was infront of the t.v and you helped me find it thnk u i can rember watchin some of these in my bugie as a todler (i nver sat stil and my mum was afraid i wud sumtin dangerous while she wsnt there, i was dnagerous as a child i split my head open when i was 2!)

  • Good Lord! lol

  • not my fault my bro thought it wud b funny to use my doll pram as a go cart. i was the passenger

  • Remember all these kids programs, thanks for posting them.

  • Still no Joey Deacon in there though ! '79 I believe that was

  • oh god i feel so old now watching these. I remember it was such a happy and innocent time before you grew up and life turned crap. I think we were more innocent and happier than the kids today. Thanks for the posting.

  • Thanks so much-these are fab! Def brought a smile to my face-all good!

  • BOrn in 73 & I remember every 1 of these & more.

    Miss those progs So much

    nice to remember

    Thanks for the post.

  • Thank you so much for reminding me of those shows. I'd forgotten all about Bagpuss

  • quality

  • I won't say all 70s programs were good - there was a LOT of rubbish on then as there is now, but I can't fault the clips chosen. They were some of the better shows of the era, with strong scripts for the age bracket they were aimed at, expecting - and getting - focussed attention and a memory for details.

  • gfrkiss says it all really, oh the memories!! not a care in the world ,now 35 and it has just flown by ...........excellent work on the vid

  • totally spot-on! The memories came roaring back :*) always remember trying to make sure Igot home from work in time to see most of these when they used to be on just before the news, or if you were ever off during the week for any reason, trying to make sure that you never went anywhere un the afternoon before you'd had a chance to watch one of these, real classic stuff, thank you for posting (Sughs Deeply and drifts off into a nostalgic haze) lol

  • Brilliant 5 stars!

  • Great vid. Some good memories.

  • beautifully done and ,yes one does take a moment to think about how innocent those times were...if only we could go back to those 'no worries' times...

  • B 1967.The 70s were certainly not a 'no worries' time for me.I was a shy child with divorced parents, living in poverty with a sick mother & an elder sibling with chronic bulimia in an Aus that had yet to grow up & become the diverse multicultural place it is today. But it was the UK kids tv that gave me an escape into humour and fantasy & made me realise noone can take your inner life away from u.Bagpuss,Basil Brush, the Goodies,Magic Roundabout,Bill & Ben-all have a special place in my heart.

  • Wot, no Ali Bongo?!!!

  • wat a fab compilation but wheres mary, mungo and midge, hectors house and the clangers with button moon and rupert the bear lol they don.t make em like they used to ???????

  • Nothing like a trip down nostalgia lane to take stock of your life. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. Born 1973 in London.

    Omar

  • Fab - Makes me forget I'm 40!!!

  • Fab - Makes me forget I'm 40!!

  • i was born at the end of the 80's i rember watching some :D

  • this is great

  • Sometime's I think I should've been born in the 70s

  • What can I say that has not been said? It is truly amazing what emotions are evoked from viewing these childhood treasures and reading the other members comments. Thankyou for posting this video.

  • it isnt just me, i reckon we had the best childrens tv to grow up with, fantastic memories, oh boy do i feel old, and a little sad, as my own kids would watch these and say how old fashioned they are.

  • Oh the memories

  • Ok, I was only born in 1989, but I watched most of these lol.

  • things were better in those days in my opinion, watching these really brings it home to you that we are never going to be young again...so cheer up coz weve got death to look forward to..and judging by the state of the world it will be a blessing by the time were ready to go forever..happy days peeps xx

  • AMEN! :D

  • my god, didnt life seem good back then ?

  • Fab!! Really enjoyed this trip down memory lane!! :)
