  • Thank God, I'm not alone... thanks for letting me know!

  • It was winter, 1969,, doing LSD when I heard this song. I was 17 almost 18. 38 years or more has passed since I heard this last. It hurts my heart to hear it. I guess because it reminds me of when I was indestructible, young and innocent. Now, I'm just old.......

  • @coolingwater9111 I wasn't doing LSD, but I was the exact same age, and this song encapsulates so much of what we all felt and did. You are so right - we were indestructible, young and romantic. This song reminds me of loves found and lost in my NYC youth. Perfection. (aka elsewhere @jayelgee1)

  • Saddest song EVER. Breaks the heart and cuts right thru my soul... "The shadow in the myst could have been anyone..."

  • my favorite from JA... thank you. Just a truly beautiful piece.

  • Crookram - I saw you , used it sounds pretty cool there also! :)

  • terr0kitten, this looks like somewhere in the dakotas depicting farm life in the pre depression great song great video

  • @shovel79jon ...Yes, I also thought and felt that this clip complements the song lyrics. Kinda strange thing, but after hearing this music, PBS had a special on the 1935 dust bowl (in black and white), with many of the same sad faces seen here. wow.

  • What a fascinating pairing! Much enjoyed it. Thanks

  • Such a beautiful song, the pace of the song and video is such a good match. Well done !

  • is there anything more beautiful than this song? It has everything inside it.

  • love your video with this song what movie is it from?

  • this song is so hard on guitar

  • I love this not only because it's a Brilliant ballad by marty balin, but because it expouses the passion that you see to something or someone that fills that something that you are looking for. I listened to this on headphones and nicely stoned when I was hiking at point reyes station in marin county at dusk. Peace!

  • This song is featured in a movie, "Flashback." It stars Dennis Hopper, Kiefer Sutherland and an exquisite, miraculous Carol Kane. If you remember the 60's, you gotta see this film!

  • Beautifull, the video works like magic with the song, so bittersweet and evocative. But be carefull the lyrics are wrong, it's:

"You came to stay and live my way,

Scatter my love like leaves in the wind.

You always say that you won't go away,

But I know what it always has been,

    It always has been" ex...

makes more sense like this no? :-) Bye!

  • Fantastic song!

The spirit of Frisco wich does exist these days...

  • Thanks for posting. Nicely done with such a fine song.

  • The tone and rhythm of the images fits the music quite well. Still, silent, wintery. Nice job!

  • Does anyone sing like this today? Is so, I'd like to know their names.....

  • Remember this song from Tour of Duty when Goldman's girlfriend Alex is killed. Such a haunting and touching song. Still gives me gooseflesh.

  • lovely pairing of song and image that enhances the longing in both. and a happy ending!

  • I can't watch your video cos when I listen to this song I see something else ... but it's nice to have posted this wonderful song on youtube ;)

  • Love the song! Love the video too! great upload. Peace and Love to you.

  • i would like to make

  • Great metaphors about a love gained that maybe should not be. Thanks for the lyrics.

  • A beautiful song that breaks my heart every time that I wish that the people who needed to hear it would...

  • Man, haven't heard this in a year or so and whooosh, I am back in San Francisco in the Haight and I'm looking out a window waiting for that one special girl who could break my heart with just a look. And she did. Far too many times. And when we finally broke up, I always throught there was one more chance we deserved. And this song haunts me to this day.

  • Vid makes perfect sense to me.

  • it is so moving

  • Congratulations! Your vid is amazing! Thanks for your sensibility.

    Kisses from Argentina.

  • Hi, "Terror0kitten". These are scenes in which film? I was curious about it. Thanks!

  • Trovo i Jefferson Airplane grandi testimoni del rock.

  • I think the film kind of fit in an odd nice way. Good selection!

  • I really don't understand why this video was put with this beautiful song..beautifully written....

  • @oitsbarb55 Nothing to understand really. You either like it or you don't. If it doesn't work for you and you like the tune, just look away! It's not supposed to be a literal interpretation of the lyrics. Thanks for looking.

  • @terr0rkitten Hello,I am sorry for the negative comment...I have watched again, and i do like it..peace

  • @oitsbarb55 Hey, no worries and no offence taken.

  • @terr0rkitten (sigh...) I get it. (tears)

  • @oitsbarb55

I feel the same way. Great song, good video,,,they don't belong together.

  • @mrdelmar I have to say when I first saw it,I didnt get it, I kinda felt shallow about my comment and how I felt..But I watched again and I got it..felt it,it really is good!

  • Where did you get this reel? This is amazing?

  • Solid, Jackson! Solid!

  • beautiful song......

  • Comment removed

  • Check out the Charles Darden version of this song.

  • Looks like a 50's propaganda film

  • beautiful

  • No one may dislike :P

  • this is real deep for some reason man

  • amazing song...

  • this is an obscure ballad on Surrealistic Pillow, album and song from my youth, what a great pairing of video and music except they lyrics point to a romantic loss where the video points to longing for the father figure. The black and white medium and cold landscape connect perfectly

  • I believe Marty Balin wrote this song and it is him singing

  • Marty Balin sings this one

  • Marty Balin

  • who sings in this one?

  • 0 dislikes... absolutely perfect.

  • Very Haunting video and song! Bittersweet and Lovely!

  • very enjoyable. thanks!

  • i remeber being in oregon college in 1971 at a party with steve prefontaine he loved this song years later i watched the film about him called without limits and they played this in it it bought back fantasic memories r.i.p pre

  • beautiful poem

    my favorite!

    from japan

  • Airplane at there best

  • Love it! Tiny quibble-- the shots of the oil gusher and happy smiles at the end don't really fit an otherwise perfect pairing of sound and image.

Thanks, though-- it's still a solid 9 out of 10.

  • This song always makes me cry

  • my favorite song from Jefferson Airplane.

  • This song makes ...me... a ......cry...!

  • The emotion of solitary love

  • I first heard this song from the movie 'Flashback' with Kiether Sutherland and dennis hopper. Its a great song. I only just found out who sung the song. Brillant.

  • This is just BEAST!!!!

  • timeless,love it

  • Beautiful work on the video terr0rkitten. This is one of my fav songs from the late 60s and the footage is perfect

  • Beautiful!

  • awesome!!! AWESOME!!!! AAAWWWEEESSSOOOMMMEEE!!!!!!!!! yes I'm serious. Dust bowl. Maybe not lol.

  • awesome!!! AWESOME!!!! AAAWWWEEESSSOOOMMMEEE!!!!!!!!! yes I'm serious. Dust bowl.

  • This is one of your most fortunate pairings, terr0rkitten. Close to perfect in tone and pace.

  • @FungusMossGnosis Thank you - tried to send you a personal note, but, your profile doesn't allow that.

  • @terr0rkitten

Hhmm, I didn't know the profile disallowed anything. Let me see if I can reverse that now...

  • superior to any beatles song.

  • Brilliant song. It makes you want to cry but at the same time you feel like you are on top of the world, when listening to it. Am I right?

  • great vid,and great song.one of my JA favorites

  • this song is pure poetry. i flows like honey & is down right beautiful. <3

  • The summer had inhaled and held its breath too long

The winter looked the same, as if it never had gone

And through an open window where no curtain hung

I saw you, I saw you, comin' back to me

One begins to read between the pages of a book

The shape of sleepy music, and suddenly you're hooked

Through the rain upon the trees, that kisses on the run

I saw you, I saw you, comin' back to me

  • someone told you that before, but you choose a footage that fits quite well with the flavour of lost love and childish melancholy, at least i feel so..thanks

  • someone told you that before, but you choose a footage that fits quite well with the flavour of lost love and childish melancholy, at least i feel so..thanks

  • You're giving "me-tooism" a good name - I'm joining the salutes to you, Phil.

Wouldn't it be nice if this song got one tenth of the attention paid to the garbage?

  • I have no idea why, but this video really works with this. Thank you

  • Thi song will play at my eulogy.

  • Such an evocative, moody and introspective song with Marty's poignant vocals, gentle Grace recorder, and Jorma fingerpicking guitar. Got me then, gets me now...thanks.

  • such a beautiful song :)

  • This song hurts me

  • I bought Surrealistic Pillow so that I could always hear White Rabbit and Somebody To Love because I loved Grace Slick's passion as a vocalist. Then, as I made my way through the record, I came across this haunting ballad sung by Marty Balin. At one level it's a sparse dirge much like a Gillian Welch song, but it's got such a quiet emotional power. Great "found" clip too!

  • This song creates atmosphere.

  • this video is perfect for a perfect song. what is it?

  • @legallucy I think it was just a public information film about farming and rural communities. Sorry to be a bit vague. It was a free download.

  • @terr0rkitten its ok, I think matches nicely :D

  • @legallucy

Marty Balin from the Jefferson Airplane.... Coming Back to Me beautiful!

  • this song bring memories lost in time a time machine where that song came from

  • Incredible. Far and away this video sends me. The video equals the music.

  • Brilliant, Phil. Just outstanding. Thank you.

  • Thanks for looking and listening. It was fun to do.

  • The video shows a school teacher. Is this a story about how the children come back to class and the dedication of a teacher?

The song is important in showing a lot of dedication.

  • Love this song!!! WOOT WOOT!!!

  • so enchanting...

  • et moi et moi et moi

  • O so plaintive and so beautiful...

  • One of the most amazing songs ever written.............

  • Beautiful.... ")

  • Good eye on match the song with your video.

  • its a pity tho that the video shows a winter of discontent...

  • Couldn't break my heart more if you tried...

  • This "gem" by the Airplane is timeless!Has there ever been a better song that captures the listener from the start and proceeds to touch your soul for 5:23? This remarkable song is FLAWLESS! Raw feeling and emotion immortalized! This tune should be mandatory listening to anyone who wants to capture, for a brief moment anyway, what it felt like to be alive in the "summer of love." TY!

  • WHH

An incredibly evocative, and beautiful song. I was only 2 when it was released, but my parents had the album, and participated in the zeitgeist, whatever that means. where is the video clip from? Does anyone know?

  • The footage is a piece that I downloaded from a film archive. I thought it had a nice feel and kinda sat well with the mood of the song.

    Thanks for looking. Phil

  • That film clip was a really good choice. The melancholy facial expressions, the old farm, church, and schoolhouse scenes from a bygone era, reminded me of the lives of our grandparents and great grandparents. People who we always thought would be there, but no longer are.

  • know the name of the film?

  • Thanks you. This maybe the best therapy my aching soul could have at this moment. Maybe it was just something I made up for fun. I can't believe that. It was real.

  • Beautiful song ... It makes me feel really bad, makes me so sad ...

I like the video you did.

    Complement each other perfectly!

    Greetings from Argentina!!!
