does anybody know which strings he uses so he can tap on them and they actually react the way they shoud. its just not possible with medium ones by ernie ball
@DuffCowboy the vic wooten strings are great, whole nother level from ernie balls which i find to be way too bright. I get where your coming from, they are very, very difficult to play some of this stuff on. just splurge on some really nice fodera strings and u will be set
i love wooten...but i swear its aggravating watching him lol....b/c i've been playing 7 years, and have gotten nowhere even remotely near his talent :P
@pntballfreek Some people are just born with overwhelming amounts of musical talent. There's just some things you can't learn, no matter how long you play.
@Milessmile That doesn't mean it's not a natural talent (i know that it is) I played for years and never got beyond what id consider decent. Some people just have natural dexterity that others don't.

I play bass... and no offense to all the people who worship Victor Wooten... but this isn't that good at all. He is just playing random notes and slapping as fast as he can. There is no composure what-so-ever. There isn't any real music in it, he just plays random shit, and everyone just assumes that is what good bass is supposed to sound like. If you want to hear amazing bass playing look up Martin Motnik's interpretation on Cello Suite No. 1 by Bach. That is amazing bass playing.
First of all it's all relative. It depends on the listener, not the player. Secondly there's more to music than just notes. Third this song is an absolute masterpiece (in my opinion) and there are some AMAZING techniques in it, but they are all used to make MUSIC. None of these notes are random, even the reallllly fast slap part I'm sure you're referring to. If you check the solos on this from other live versions you'll hear the same notes inside the mutes. His speed is to get the crowd going.
Well, about Victor's solo, he can play it again, because that's not random notes... That solo is planned and composed like a song by him and it's a solo, a piece of his talent and he wants to show it to the audience :) And he did it very well imo.
mmm are you serious? or stupid? now, you can do it whit the same intensity same groove and feeling whit bass? i don't think so... maybe you dont know wooten and other things that he do... maybe you don't know his bass philosophy...but i think that you like billy sheehan more than he...
who else cuz came?

@RoboticsNShenanigans This guy dedicated his life to bass. The dexterity difference is minimal between regular people and you can train you fingers.
