@beatmakerbrown Yeah know what you mean, and even some basic scratchin - even transformin can take a bitta practice to get perfectly in time everytime, so even when it sounds simple it can be very skilled...dj sy is a good example of that, basic stuff, but a master of it, whereas the turntablist side - qbert etc - masters of the tricky scratchin - crabs, flares, orbits etc - but sometimes go way too far with it and doesnt sound like music.... i'm a fan of both sides for sure =)
toy if im honest the mc was doing a better job with the croud than the dj . that was no master scratchin . infact there is 6 year old children on youtube that can scratch better . im no hater but that was very basic scratching that any dj should be able to pull off

@craigpusey go out and buy or download qberts scratchlopedia or if your a beginner invest in turntable techniques package, with dvd book n two vinyls.. or better yet, youtube its all about rythem n timing, combining a few scratches! search youtube for how to do a flare, chirp, and baby scratch. do 1 at a time, get comfortable doing them, then combine them in a sequence.. try new stuff! its what you make of it!

Back when I was going to all the events, it used to leave me stunned how some of the MC's managed to maintain any kind of solid place on the scene. You'd have people like Eks Man still mostly only doing radio, then you'd go to an event and there'd be Moose, Spyda, Navigator, Fatman D all rocking the biggest sets. I don't wanna slate them, but probably like a lot of people, I had plenty of mates who would've rinsed all of em and didn't even make it on to radio. Just used to leave me amazed tbh.

Just to let you all know why Hype does this scratch everytime, it is His trademark scratch and it is to let everyone know that the Hype is in the building! get it?
I mean I don't intend any disrespect at all but I found that to be extremely average.
He is doing very basic scratches, don't get me wrong I love this scratch style and prefer it over really technical stuff, but I can do everything he did, and I don't even dj, I just learnt the basics of scratching so I could do the cuts on my own beats.
I guess the title gave me higher expectations, coz I don't know this dude.
if you have just learnt the basics, then there is no way on this planet you could scratch like this, the timing is perfect. if you could do this from the basics then you would be very very well known by now.
Well, like I said, I don't dj, I just do the scratches for my own beats, and I'm a bit lazy getting my shit together to make an album or whatever coz I have to rely on other emcees to rap on my beats coz I can't write good raps and my voice sounds shit.
But I've been a drummer for 12 years so I like to think my timing is pretty good too.

I mean I don't intend any disrespect at all but I found that to be extremely average.
He is doing very basic scratches, don't get me wrong I love this scratch style and prefer it over really technical stuff, but I can do everything he did, and I don't even dj, I just learnt the basics of scratching so I could do the cuts on my own beats.
I guess the title gave me higher expectations, coz I don't know this dude.
Is he supposed to be really good? I'm lost.

Well, like I said, I don't dj, I just do the scratches for my own beats, and I'm a bit lazy getting my shit together to make an album or whatever coz I have to rely on other emcees to rap on my beats coz I can't write good raps and my voice sounds shit.
But I've been a drummer for 12 years so I like to think my timing is pretty good too.

Well I don't live in the UK and I'm a hiphop head. I like dnb but I don't listen to it heaps, so that's probably why I didn't know who he was.
Like I said, I didn't mean any disrespect, but I was probably a bit stoned at the time and didn't even realise it was a dnb beat he was scratching to.
I'm used to hiphop djs like Q-bert, so when I saw the title "scratch master" I thought it was gonna be on like Q-bert's level or something.
This is cool for what it is though.

This is no way near Hype at his best anyways. Going back a year or 2 before this vid in 92 when the tempo was slower he had a far better style of scratch. Doc scott's here come the drumz for example!! Does anyone remember hypes tape 'ruff stuff vol 3' ? Its all on there.. :0)
