Agree. Alternative energy is usually converted to or stored in the form of electricity so the most efficent way to use it would be an electric motor. Efficency obviously isn't the point here although i'm not sure what is. Perhaps cost?
Sorry but I don't see the point of an air engine? You need to use fuel or electricity to compress the air, why not use that for the engine. It would be more efficient. ??
@jwheat65 FUCK why don't you stupid ass idiot think of the use of Solar panels or Wind turbines YOU DUMBFUCK!!!!!!!!! If your so damn smart why don't you think of THAT? And don't come back with "Oh but it takes energy to make solar panels and stuff" WELL IT TAKES ENERGY TO MAKE ENERGY! AND ONCE YOU GOT DONE USING THAT LITTLE BIT OF FUEL TO PRODUCE THE STUFF TO BUILD A SOLAR PANEL WIND TURBINE A ENGINE AND THE AIR COMPRESSOR YOU WONT BE MAKING ANY MORE POLLUTION! YOUR SO FUCKING STUPID MAN
@14omega28ok ... with a wind turbine or solar panel it takes energy/ resources to build ONCE... then on its "energyless"
an engine that run off compressed air consumes energy EVERYTIME it runs... the air has to come from somewhere... usually an electric compressor... which in the long run is usually powered by coal...
its completely different...
also technically solar panels nor windmills make energy either... they use energy that is usually unharnessed and basically limitless

@14omega28ok Energy cannot be made...it can only be transformed. Please get off your soapbox. Oh, learn conjunctions...."you are" becomes "you're." They are quite simply actually, especially for a man as intelligent as you.
when you said You're and Your I stopped and it made me realize how that means you couldn't come up with anything good to reply with. So until your reply with a good point fuck off. This is Youtube, Proper spelling don't really matter. I know the difference between You're and Your idiot. When you read that and it takes you four hours to figure out I meant "You're" you got a real problem with Comprehension and simple problem solving.
@14omega28ok I believe the reply was certainly "good." What is a good point? I hardly know what your standards are. I assume a "good" reply would be a reply that contains poor spelling and lots of capital letters? You're correct that proper spelling doesn't truly matter. I guess it doesn't matter anywhere really, if only in school, but it certainly shows your wit. Therefore, you are not to be taken too seriously. Thank you for your angry, and quite funny, remarks. I look forward to the next one.
There is no heat with air powerd engines so thay can be made from aluminium. less weight is less friction on the tires.
And with solar panels its possible to fill a airtank verry slow so when the tanks in your car are empty the one at your house or some sort are full again.
@jwheat65 One point I once heard, is that you have no exhaust gasses, and no heavy fuel or energy cells to carry around. I don't know about efficiency, but I can see who you wouldn't want to lug a huge cell or many liters of fuel around.
Yes, if you talk about an continuous air supply, you're right. But there would be a higher power output and RPM if there was an aditional rotary valve which supplies air to the former combustion chambet when the piston is at it's TDC. Look at the way how CO2 powered engines work at Keveney's animated engines.
yea but its more complex that way. besides that would require either a solenoid or some special valve. why do that when you already have something as valves? besides if you use a solenoid, then it requires electricity.
I agree on that one. It's a choice between complexity and output I quess.. And economics. The biggest problem is that the valve opens in the same direction as the air current, so there always is some unwanted air-leakage. Even during the outlet-stroke.
you can use steam, which can be made with a boiler with cheap stuff like wood

if the air flow went threw the intake it probly would spin faster
mortie806 3 years ago
No, the air should be injected at the sparkplug hole when the piston reaches the top of it's way up.
Skoda130 3 years ago
actuallly morties right. it would stall on the compression stroke of that engine. they probably modded the camshaft to make it work.
