WHY are there twelve persons who dislike it? This man is just a great, great, great, GREAT musician. How could someone dislike it? It is out of the limits of my imagination ;D
Well I'm a fucking great guitarist (I thought!!!:-(.... but Tommy holy cow....speechless. Absolutely awesome towering performance he's a maniac he's so inside those grooves. Legend one my top five - Paco, Tommy, Django, Montgomery, Bream....
He´s not only a guitar player. He shows the world what music really means and to do it like him is related to a lot of fucking hard work and nearly tangible feeling. This man is not from this world. Great Entertainer too.
@Jump2893 well.... andy mckee isn't CERTIFIED GUITAR PLAYER (CGP). and if you're saying that andy mckee is better.... andy mckee is totally gonna kill you. TOMMY EMMANUEL is the BEST ACOUSTIC GUITAR PLAYER year 2010. YOU HAVEN"T BEEN TO HIS CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!!
@Jump2893 Well, this isn't an Andy McKee video... so why exactly are you mentioning him? I love McKee, but seriously, MUSIC ISN'T A COMPETITION. They have totally different ways of playing guitar. Nobody cares who you think is better.
I am a good finger picker on the guitar...actually very good and I once served as the 'warm up' act for John Fahey.....so.........why do I suddenly feel completely incompetent when I see/hear Tommy Emmanuel in action? The answer is simple: he is simply great.
Astonish is the only word that comes close to describing this performance. Aside from the technical brilliance of TE, the most marvelous element is his showmanship and the fact that he simply loves what he is doing. This is genius.
Ok, let's see...the speed and accuracy of Art Tatum, the swagger rhythm and style of Gregory Hines, the fun and goofiness of the Marx Brothers, the instrumental mastery of Mozart, the stage presence of Elvis, the perfection of Eva Cassidy, the entertainment level of Terry Fator and the attractiveness of being a regular guy, put that all together and you might get close to a Tommy Emmanuel.
One of the incredible things about watching TE is that he's such a performer that you know whatever he's playing is pretty easy for him to play! I mean that little trick he does with the guy taking a picture around 5:50 just shows us that he's just having fun. Not that he isn't trying! Of course I know he is! But I could never move around like that while playing, and I can't play nearly this fast!
What I'd give to sit around and here him practice the stuff that he finds difficult...
@findthemonthefloor I've watched a number of Tommy's instructional vids, and his most recurring tip is "PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!"
From a musician's point of view, what truly seperates the greats from the would-be's is practice. Talent will only take you so far--its the USE of that talent, grinding that axe until its a fine tuned machine--thats what makes Tommy the best!
These songs that he makes look easy--I'm sure many of them were hard for him at first until he broke them wide open!
@VegasBilgeRat That's not really true. Being a true musician is not so much about physical skills as being able to weave notes together and compose music. You can practice as much as you like but if you don't have the proper feel for music you'll never get there. Not saying talent is all but you'll definitely need a lot of affinity for music. But I do agree with you on the fact that it doesn't matter how much talent you'll have, you'll still need to practice.
@Robinguitarded If I might counter, I've played with many musicians who are phenomenal PLAYERS but couldn't compose a good song in their life. They could weave those notes, because they had talent, and practiced their butts off! Each of us are talented in different ways.
My main point was to reiterate Tommy's stance from his instructional seminars and videos, which is PRACTICE YOUR HEART OUT!
@dudeforlive Hi, I mean that passage at 4:52 from that Tommy Emmanuel - Windy And Warm video...its a nice crescendo part....a masterpiece..like the whole tommy
the part from 1:02 to 1:14 was so smooth...I've learnt 1st part of the song, but that super cool beginning part is not in my tab...and whatever i do i just cant sound like that, not that cool anyway....
@johnydeltablues There's a video out there where he explains how he changes the regular intro to that groovy bit that he does, but i don't know which one... I've seen so many videos of him i can't remember... sorry
03:47 Check this: He can let his hands and soul do the job instead of his brain. The hands actually feels and thinks. He can think about bills and kid's homework and his hands will not bother him from doing that;) Here is where "routine" shows big time! Do u guys agree me?
Standard Tommy, just awesome, not many people can take a classic, play with it that much, and not totally screw it up. Tommy's off the charts. Personally I prefer Doc's versions, but it's just personal.

@zyeduvaleleusis Oh - THAT old thing?? Piece of cake. Just block the strings at the top edge of the soundhole with the fingers of the left hand while strumming forward with the thumbpick on the right.
