  • turn up the volume

  • The greatest live performances and the most powerful music that brought about a new and better direction in Australian music. When I hear it reminds me of my youth and all the energy that I had a Midnight Oil gig.

  • Id kill to see these guys again

  • sung with garrett twice, was on their guest list 8 nights running,Constance (the tour manager honey, she probably still is, going back to 86), thought it was coz l got too many of Rob's drumstick's 13 in all and signed!! pulled me aside and said the band wants you too get on stage and sing with them!! True story! Saw em 11 nights in a row, although Smitty clocked up the 'dozen' " Legend!!!

  • head injuries = awesome album!!

  • Don't forget - he's just part of this play

  • Before Garrett SOLD OUT... The man in this video would never ever leave his beliefs, his intelligence or his pride at the door of parliment house WTF happened Peter???? As a member of the 80's Nuclear Disarmament Party I looked up to you and shook your hand in Newcastle because you stood for what you believed in, now I don't know what you believe in, do you?

  • Peter Garrett was a larger than life character when I was a kid.

  • The best place in the late 70's and the 80's to be was the aussie pub scene. I don't know how many times I'd seen these guys, can't count it, and every time they sounded better than the time before. My highlight gig of theirs was when I saw them in Alice Springs in 2000, with Nocturnal as back up band. One of my fav aussie bands.!!!

  • Man, they were at the height of their powers right there!

  • Sounds-best music program ever.before the days of MTV.many great music videos came from this show I seem to recall.

  • reminds me of deep purple!...great album too

  • This old Midnight Oil stuff is the best.

  • My first oils concert was as important to me as losing my virginity. Probably better.

  • Wicked guitar riff.

  • Awesome song. I have been to a heap of concerts. One time (no not at band camp) i saw them in Sydney at a pub. The headlined as Sandy & the shorebreakers... I was walking past the pub with a few drinks under the belt and thought shit that sounds like the oils! We went and and sure enough it was. Awesome. Was around the time just before red sails came out. 10to1 times. awesome

  • Love it!

  • trop bien travaillé ste band là. sont trop tête, incroyable

  • head injuries cranked... got it on vinyl.... live welll holy mother of god....... left all 4 dead and i no i saw them wooooohhhooooo

  • The Oils, what can i say but oils68!

  • Jim Moginie - punk rock nerd genius.

  • the first album or the black album as we know it was truly awesome, pity they dont play anything off it anymore, Head Injuries was a great follow up, pity they dont play anything off it anymore.....

  • I dont know where you have been but they no longer exist and they always play atleast a couple of head injuries and powderworks

  • Midnight Oil were probably one of the tightest live bands in the world. An this is one of my favourite songs. Head Injuries was a no nonsense and raw ..best album they ever cut.

  • I saw them live last night. Claimed to be their last gig ever and it was for the Sound Relief benefit concert for the Bushfire victims. They haven't played for 3 years since singer Peter Garrett is now a full time politician in the Australian government.

Last night, they were still as tight and as powerful as they are in this clip!

  • That wouldve been sweet,I heard they went off and brought the house down.

  • Split Enz and H&C were great as well.. but the Oils were magic. It was so easy to forget that he is in government now. The old Peter came out.

  • Agree - I was wondering last week how the Oils could better the near-perfect H&C & Splt Enz.

Somehow they did - and their performance was also far superior to their Live 8 Concert 4 odd years ago.

  • did they do anything which conflicts with labor party policy like hercules for instance?

  • @nzoz1980 was there too, it was AWESOME to rlive the buzz!!

  • I agree. Head Injuries was the first music album I brought in life. And I am happy I did so !! A great foundation for other music to follow.

  • @LeonardRockstein Absolutely agree 100%, they were fantastic, saw them live so many times, and each concert was brilliant, Yeah ! :)

  • @LeonardRockstein - agree, tho Species was a short & sharp classsic

  • Martin Rotsey, hugely underrated guitarist, for mine...

  • fresh from a great surf, they rip, even for folk who were teens when they blasted onto the scene...Head injuries and the some kids EP were the first, but he gigs got us surfies all talking.

  • the oils are the fucking shit...yeah fucking bonza

  • Saw these guys in late 1980 at the Bexley North Hotel, still dig their music

  • Classic Aussie Rock ,when bands were better live, than the album, best nights ,summer sweat and scooners on the beach ,love it !!

  • This album is the best Good to hear it again after all these years. Those were the days

  • Shit hot oils ..bsck in the old days.

  • Maybe my favourite Oils track, from my favourite Oils album (Head Injuries, what more do you want from a rock album? And yes, pun, semi intendet!) All the way from Oslo, Norway: I miss you Midnight Oil!

  • Rob's face at 0:28 lol

  • I saw them 4 x times, from 1984 - 1988 approx. Are there any boots of the Oils concerts?

  • Props to all you legends looking up old footage of our future PM. Go PG.

  • Incredible live early footage & sound. Thanks for posting!

  • Can't wait to see Pete rock'n on as Minister for the environment....let's hope

  • Ive been to 28 midnight oil gigs since i was 3 months old ime now 19 best array of talent since well since never always will be my favourite band

  • agree

oils will always be a fav of mine.

    esp. songs like this 1

  • Head Injuries Album Rulz!!

  • going off

  • nzoz... u got koala sprint ?? this is Excellent BTW

  • I don't have Koala Sprint, however, there is another YouTube subscriber who has been putting up clips of this gig. I'm sure I saw Koala Sprint up here a while back.

  • I'm still trying once in a while to play this on my guitar... Impossible to follow, they're too fast for me !

  • Best live band ever.

  • Brilliant! One of my fav Oils songs!

  • great capture / oils forever

  • Don't suppose you've got a video clip for No Reaction?

  • No, I don't. But good news, I may be receiving the original 'Back on The Borderline' video clip soon and will be uploading it.

  • Come on nzoz, you can't make claims like that and leave us in the lurch! Where is "Back on the Borderline"? I've only ever seen the Sounds excerpt and have been waiting for years for the origianl to turn up. Looking forward to its upload.

  • It will be uploaded but the guy who has it is overseas and i'm just waiting for him to get back in contact with me. There's another guy who used to record heaps of SOUNDS back in the day and he said he 'might' have it. So it's looking good!

  • are you an oils fan? i would also love to see back on the borderline film clip.....any reason why they didn't include it on their 20.000 watt dvd?

  • My guess is as good as anybody's... I don't think anybody could find the video when they were compiling 20.000 watts. The clip is on it's way. As soon as I get it, it'll be up.

  • From the excellent album Head Injuries.

    -MINESWEEP

  • awesome !
