I think Jack Nitzsche (sp.?) did the BS's string arrangements. He was responsible for a lot of their sophisticated sounds. They were a great band in their own right, but I think JN had a lot to do with their recorded product. He's passed on. Really gifted man.
Sorry we all KNEW he had something to do with it he was after all the arranger for all of their stuff so If this song is so beautiful Stephen DID have something to do with it Again Sorry Neil I do love you but Stephen helped you so much on this record and you two always worked so beautifully together Thank you.
The identical road signs at 1:27, 1:50, 2:44, 3:12 are not familiar to me (in Oz). The car that passes in the other direction looks fairly modern. the number painted in yellow on the road at 2:26 must be a clincher to someone.
Beautiful song and video. This song was said to be one of Neil's first "solo" efforts. No one else from the Buffalo Springfield actually play on this song. Purely the product of Neil and his sometime producer Jack Neitzche. Neil plays all of the non symphonic instruments.
NOt lame!, takes me back to when i had that open breeze in my hair in my ynger days, loving life, rolling down back hiway like that, just like that my brother, washington state!
I was 9 years old when my grandmother died in 1985 and, in an effort to start listening to old bands my mother listened to, I had my grandfather buy me "Retrospective" on cassette. This was one of the first songs that immediately spoke to my feelings about the loss of my grandmother. As a young child I would sit by the tape player, listen to this and cry my eyes out. It's so beautiful and still wells me up to this day. One of Neil Young's finest moments on record if you ask me!
Oh hi there Andy...01054..whatever the hell your user name is. You know what's really lame? The fact that you can't back up your reply to my comment. Comon let's see what you REALLY have to say ya coward. Let's hear how you know the REAL WAY to deal with emotions, running from them perhaps? Comon buddy, whatdaya say?
I am old enough to have seen Buffalo Springfield, Long Beach CA 1968. Thanks for a wonderful video and wonderful memories. 5 stars, favorited and playlisted.
thanks this looks just like a road i used to ride my motorcyle down years and years ago in washington state, DEJA VU, just like memory lane, and the song is so so sweet
I think I might of accidentally gave you a thumbs down and I meant to give you a thumbs up. Forgive my fat fingers please and I hope it can be fixed! Sorry sneakyman !
Beautiful. Imagine you are just cruising as a kid with the windows slightly rolled down for someone smoking a cig, and your getting the cool breeze hitting your warm body ^_^ freedom and the enjoyment of wanting to fall asleep in the car..
Excellent video. Did you know that the members of Buffalo Springfield got totally screwed by their record company? Although they made tens of millions of dollars for their label, each musician only received a collective total of $40,000.
their label threatened to sue them, but couldn't because the label did not have individual contracts on each of the singers & musicians. This became a standard practice afterwards. When Jimmy Page started Led Zeppelin, his old label thought they had their hooks on him- only to find out that he was the only individual Yardbird who didn't sign a individual contract with the Yardbird's manager.
Nicely done.

I simply ADORE this song.
Thank you for putting this up.
What a fitting video clip too.
Enough movement to keep you entertained but nothing to distract you from the beauty of Neil's voice and the wonderful guitar sound.
I feel as though I should now go and lie in a grassy meadow.

something strange...
...the white broken line is a passing lane at least in the states, yet it goes around tight corners where you can't see the oncoming traffic. ???
Anyone have an insight into that? ~cg5
