  • Nicely done.

    James

  • I think Jack Nitzsche (sp.?) did the BS's string arrangements. He was responsible for a lot of their sophisticated sounds. They were a great band in their own right, but I think JN had a lot to do with their recorded product. He's passed on. Really gifted man.

  • Beautifully done

  • awesome, truly sad song

  • love this song

  • this song is so beautifull typical neil young genius

  • this is very good :)

  • Love this tune, really great psychedelic ballad, first real Neil's masterpiece.

And the strings around 3:10 always make me want to cry...

  • awesome song!!! great how you can appreciate classic songs like this? they don't make them like this anymore? thanks for sharing, nice work ;)

  • Notice how stereo separation flips sides at the central snare drum shot. Cool stuff.

  • riding on the left? that is England!

    such an psychedelikal xxxxxperienssss!!

  • its not england

  • Right. I think it's Japan.

One of the most beautiful compositions ever.

  • I believe it is shot in Japan.

Regardless of where, I like it. And this song by Neil Young is one of my alltime favorites.

  • Neil is the best one ever! And he was also at that time!

  • Gorgeous, haunting song.

  • neil was tempermentle and selfserving--as most true artist are.this is so timeless and with the art vid makes a picture-whats your take?

  • Orchestra was arranged by the late, great Jack Nitzche. What a perfectly gorgeous song and recording.

  • Beautiful!

  • Its the PNW!!!!

  • Neil Young trancendes any time....

    like Nick Drake ...

  • It's Eire, mate. The Irish hazard signs are like American signs.

  • great great great great

  • This song always reminds me of the Moody Blues...I can imagine them doing it.

  • Sorry we all KNEW he had something to do with it he was after all the arranger for all of their stuff so If this song is so beautiful Stephen DID have something to do with it Again Sorry Neil I do love you but Stephen helped you so much on this record and you two always worked so beautifully together Thank you.

  • If this song is so beautiful Stephen had something to do with it being beautiful we all he DID Sorry Neil what can I say.

  • Yeah, i was thinking Scottish highlands.

  • The identical road signs at 1:27, 1:50, 2:44, 3:12 are not familiar to me (in Oz). The car that passes in the other direction looks fairly modern. the number painted in yellow on the road at 2:26 must be a clincher to someone.

  • Thank you Niel Young. Sounds as beautiful today as it did 40 years ago! Beautiful visuals too!

  • I simply ADORE this song.

Thank you for putting this up.

What a fitting video clip too.

Enough movement to keep you entertained but nothing to distract you from the beauty of Neil's voice and the wonderful guitar sound.

I feel as though I should now go and lie in a grassy meadow.

    Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhha............

  • it must be filmed in England, I think

  • is this supposed to be the pacific coast highway?

  • something strange...

...the white broken line is a passing lane at least in the states, yet it goes around tight corners where you can't see the oncoming traffic. ???

Anyone have an insight into that? ~cg5

  • the only thing I could think of is that it was filmed by someone with the camera pointed out the back of the automobile and then shown in reverse

  • looks like the wrong side of the road to me.

  • This song is so hauntingly beautiful.

  • trippy

  • Always loved the song, first time I have seen the video. Thanks for the info russvr

  • Beautiful song and video. This song was said to be one of Neil's first "solo" efforts. No one else from the Buffalo Springfield actually play on this song. Purely the product of Neil and his sometime producer Jack Neitzche. Neil plays all of the non symphonic instruments.

  • LLSSDD

  • Looked up this movie after I seen "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" Shame, or maybe good for me; that I didn't live in that time, Nice song

  • im glad neil kept this song for inclusion on the last album instead of giving it to the everly brothers like he originally considered doing ;-0

  • NOt lame!, takes me back to when i had that open breeze in my hair in my ynger days, loving life, rolling down back hiway like that, just like that my brother, washington state!

  • i still love a good road trip, while playing some good tunes. some things never grow old.

  • I was 9 years old when my grandmother died in 1985 and, in an effort to start listening to old bands my mother listened to, I had my grandfather buy me "Retrospective" on cassette. This was one of the first songs that immediately spoke to my feelings about the loss of my grandmother. As a young child I would sit by the tape player, listen to this and cry my eyes out. It's so beautiful and still wells me up to this day. One of Neil Young's finest moments on record if you ask me!

  • Oh hi there Andy...01054..whatever the hell your user name is. You know what's really lame? The fact that you can't back up your reply to my comment. Comon let's see what you REALLY have to say ya coward. Let's hear how you know the REAL WAY to deal with emotions, running from them perhaps? Comon buddy, whatdaya say?

  • i am the space ghost, i am the one out looking in, i take journeys to the deepths. i love this song! it's my favorite.

  • Oh, O.K.

  • L, O, V, E, , , L, S, D, ,

  • I am old enough to have seen Buffalo Springfield, Long Beach CA 1968. Thanks for a wonderful video and wonderful memories. 5 stars, favorited and playlisted.

  • the fog always seems just a few feet out of reach...

  • My favourite song of all time

  • Thanks for posting this! I first heard this song in the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and loved it ever since.

  • me too :]

    great movie

  • beautiful song.

  • i agree)

  • thanks this looks just like a road i used to ride my motorcyle down years and years ago in washington state, DEJA VU, just like memory lane, and the song is so so sweet

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR posting!

  • A big thanks to you) This post touched my heart) I've never had an idea this video can make a deja vu feeling for somebody)

  • I think I might of accidentally gave you a thumbs down and I meant to give you a thumbs up. Forgive my fat fingers please and I hope it can be fixed! Sorry sneakyman !

  • Wonderful, just absolutely wonderful music...they were all so talented...takes me back some!

  • good bye..Nath...:)

  • The guy here who says the guys got little money in this group is WRONG. If you count concerts, each netted millions

  • I´ve been seeking this song a very long time, I heard it last in 1968 or 1969. So beutiful!!

  • Thanks for posting this but this isnt THE original video.

  • Beautiful. Imagine you are just cruising as a kid with the windows slightly rolled down for someone smoking a cig, and your getting the cool breeze hitting your warm body ^_^ freedom and the enjoyment of wanting to fall asleep in the car..

  • Excellent video. Did you know that the members of Buffalo Springfield got totally screwed by their record company? Although they made tens of millions of dollars for their label, each musician only received a collective total of $40,000.

  • When they reformed 1.5 years later as CSNY,

their label threatened to sue them, but couldn't because the label did not have individual contracts on each of the singers & musicians. This became a standard practice afterwards. When Jimmy Page started Led Zeppelin, his old label thought they had their hooks on him- only to find out that he was the only individual Yardbird who didn't sign a individual contract with the Yardbird's manager.

  • Well Done!

  • Cuidado, estás conduciendo en dirección contraria!

Be careful! You're driving in the wrong way

  • No, check the signs and the roadway writing of 411.

  • I've always Loved this song, and you've paired it with film beautifully. Thank you

  • Beautiful!

  • Absolutely sublime song!!! It takes my mind drifting high over the Rockie Mountains in a surrealistic daydream....

  • hey thats in fear in loathing in las vegas i think.

  • holy sleepy hallow Batman.
