@kamilla1960 Or you could buy the Chaplin at Keystone DVD and see it in it's restored state, complete with missing footage and music that fits the film.
I don't think that this is a soundtrack that was intended to go with this film. This is usually what you would get from a reprint from some shoddy company.
@DJ1AM you're right. There was original music composed, like on alot of other Chaplin movies he made in the 20s, he had music composed already and orchestras just redid the music. For this one, i think they just put random music to it, as sactreats said.
Hi i am doing this movie for Intro to Film and i would really like to know the name of the soundtrack used in this film. Can anyone tell me please??? Thx
@SaskyEL DJ1AM is almost certainly right. This film was made in 1914. The music we hear in the background is probably a stock soundtrack for a film made 15 or 20 years later. They didn't record sound tracks for films in the 1910's. They would score music for small orchestras to play while the film played, or more commonly, a piano player or organist would play music (usually improvising a lot) while the film played. This is almost definitely from another film, probably from the early 30's.
@Sactreats the worst is when they do talking over it...I have a copy like that. Luckily there is a theater nearby that sometimes plays silent films and has an organist...that was great!
@jleonardmartens the sound tracks to older movies like from the late 20's and early 30's would include extra sound effects, not just music. The company that put out this release probably got some guy to go out and get period-appropriate (or well, kinda close, this is about 15, 20 years off) movie music to put with this picture (since its silent), and they probably listened to about 20 seconds of it before deciding to use it. So it was a bad decision, but not an intentional one.
Does anyone have the track list for the original soundtrack of this movie? Thanks in advance!

Probably best to turn off the sound for this...unless there's a print on YT with a more authentic soundtrack.

Chaplin's genius was not confined to the Little Tramp. The character he portrays in this movie is partly a precursor to his Monsieur Verdoux of 1946.

is there anywhere this movie with the real music?

I love Marie Dressler in this, it's such a shame that you can't get hold of any more than a handful of her films, thanks for posting!!!

The movie's a classic but why do you have to put the stupid sound effects with it. The music okay but the other garbage stinks.
