  • i enjoyed this vid

  • great video thanks

  • im 22 gonna have this operation due to scoleosis and herniated disc

hopefully this will help´take away at least some of the pain and i will not have to take pain pills everyday!

  • i am 0n my 3rd week of back surgery...it sucks i dont see improvement

  • I am having my 3rd spinal fusion next week....im 27 and it still scares me!

  • i had exactly the same surgery but in may become a year and i have not fully control of my legs. is it possible to contact any doctor directly for some questions? thx

  • i dont get whats the point off removing bone. cant you just remove the disk without that?

  • @SkpD1991 No because the disc is on the other side of the back. When you're rubbing your back you're rubbing the bone not the disc. And if you want to remove the disc without removing the bone, you'll have to do a lot of tissue cutting, which isn't really worth it when you can just remove a bone.

  • Does that not dramatically weaken that vertebra, cutting the back out of it?

  • @1RadicalOne I was wondering the same exact thing. Also, Isn't that bone there to protect your spinal cord from being damaged by impact?

  • Another issue that I did not think of...

  • @tk421808 No, the spinous process is used as an anchor point for muscles. And if you're going to remove the lamina to get to the spinal chord, you pretty much have to remove the spinous process.

  • @the5chronicles Makes sense, but it still covers the spinal cord, and if you were to take a hit there, you could potentially compress the spinal cord where previously it would be protected by the bone, no? (Not that I'm participating in many Xtream Fighting Cage Matches these days ;)

  • @tk421808 They usually fuse together the vertebrae after the operation with a graft. Even With the bone there, the spine can still fracture like crazy and compress the chord. In this video, the disc was putting pressure on the Cauda Equina, or horse's tail, which is the bundle of nerves you see. There are lots of factors that go into it, I'm only 16 and just scratching the surface. Your cage match days over now lol?

  • @the5chronicles True, it could, but there is still more protection with it there. A friend Of mine just had this op and they removed the Lamina, and did NOT do a graft to replace bone. I also had the op a month 1/2 ago and they only drilled through the side of my Lamina. I'm still waiting for my Sciatica to completely disappear, my pain went from a 10 to a 2-3 which is good but I still don't feel great. Oddly enough, my friend and 2 others I know had this done and had zero pain after. Cheers

  • Nice hair Asian women lushfmlk.info

  • ok not to tell you a life story but im 15 and i might need to get that done so please write back that bone that you cut out does it just stay that way or do you fill it with something and also if you get this surgery does it limit you from doing anything like working out or doing any sports

  • Thank you so very much for all these fantastic videos, they are so helpful with my learning for my exams!

  • Every once in a great while my lower back, sort of like a few inches up from my tail bone and then over. Right now its my left side. It feels like its vulnerable to one of those really bad pains when I just so happen to 'drop a pen, and bend to pick it up' and POP! A tremendous amount of pain shooting up and down my body leaving me un able to move for a minute or so....Is this what a slipped disc is?

  • @wiibot15 really

  • I just had this done on 9.23.10

  • @Avatarblackwolf hey, did it work? how long is recovery time?

  • @geniaronen so far yes! feeling much better. Dont know about the time must see the DR on 10.12.2010. I hope 4-6 weeks. Will let you know next Tuesday.

  • @geniaronen I have 6 weeks of physical therapy and hope to get the green light & go back to work.

  • @Avatarblackwolf so now that you have gotten the surgery are you limited of doing anything do you still pain are you able to play sports and do anything like workout because i might need to get this surgery and your feedback would really help

  • @NickGallardo520 I am doing much better. A little pain if I sit to long. now 6 weeks of physical therapy . I will let you know. You might need this surgery ? How much pain are you in? My whole right leg was horrible. PAIN is not the word.

  • @Avatarblackwolf well the pain is mainly in my lower back not really in my legs but its in one spot and when i bend my back backwards it hurts but nothin compared to what you had its just mainly in my lower back where it starts to curve and its just a nice stinging pain but its been goin on for a year now i have gone to the cyropractor and he fixed my back to wear it only hurts in that one spot so ya i just dont know what is wrong with my back im going to get an MRI near christmas time

  • @Avatarblackwolf you are wright my friend, the word is torture, I remained three days at home with no life, it cannot be called life, I didn't eat or sleep but screaming of a painfull torture, in the third day I went to the hospital, and the pain left me until the third day of really strong medication as morfine for example, my surgery of L4 L5 herniation will be on november 19th.

  • @LOGC831217 Thats what I did, 3 days then called for help. Could not even drive.

Good luck on the 19th, let me know how it goes.

  • @Avatarblackwolf Thankyou very much my friend for your good desires I hope in God everything will go ok, I would like to make you a question, I don't know or even imagine what happens to the vertebral fragment taken apart? does the spine remains divided after the surgery as shown in this video? isn't that dangerous if I practice sports like soccer or weight lifting for example? I'll be in complete gratefullness with you, if you help me with some info like these my friend.

  • @LOGC831217 Tell you next wendsday, that when I see my Dr. again

  • what about the bone piece that is cut out???

  • Simples

  • hey guys.... i am having a pain in my lower back... i was doing some sort of gymnastic moves with out warming up my body and after that pain is started in my lower back... it starts when i curve my body... can any 1 tell me what is it???

  • Sorry to hear.

  • I had this surgery 4 days ago and can't recommend it enough. I had five months of near constant pain and hours after the surgery I was walking around the hospital pain free. The 2nd and 3rd days were more sore, but that was surgery related and I knew it would go away. The nerve pain was gone. My surgeon tells me I'll be playing hockey again in 4-6 weeks, and I can hardly wait.

  • @fmbfmg

What Dr, hospital did your surgery ?

I am looking for a reliable place to go

  • i had this done and let me tell ya i was very very nervous. but a year of pain was pretty bad to. In the end it was way worth it. i went to 6 months of pt which did nothing and this was easy. the first week is pretty hard after but the pain killer s really help. id do it again and recommend it.

  • Is there no way to remove the disk without cutting away half the vertebra?

  • i feel bad for my mom..3 hour surgery took 8 hours

  • my friend getting that im mad becuz it lookz painful

  • i have this but that surgery looks nasty so i have not done it yet.

  • i had this surgery in may last year nad i was 13 yrs old and now i am able to walk normal and do what ever i want! includeing a birthday party that i can actually remember since the surgery was 2 days before my birthday

  • @johncenafan2413 hope the best for you :)

  • @johncenafan2413 hey im 17 nd i have an herniated dic nd last year i went nd got an injection so the pain can go away nd so it did bt the pain came bac a couple months later,, lykk i might need to get the surgery bt yesterday i went nd got an injection on my bac so the pain can go away nd i dnt have pain rite nd i will have to call the doc n tell them if i still have pain or nt nd if a still have pain n a week i will have to get surgery so how did the surgery go?? i dnt want to get surgery cuz

  • @johncenafan2413 i dnt want to get surgery cuz the doc said that the risk of gettin surgery on my bac could be that i could get bladder problems nd shytt so lykk i jst wanna knw how did ur surgery go?? plzz reply soon!!!

  • @33heygurl my surgery went fine sure i was sore and couldnt do much for a couple weeks but it was worth it and my back sometimes hurts no and then but not nearly as much as it didnt before i had surgery so i would go for it the only thing that will happen is you wont be aloud to turn and bend down for 6 weeks till it heals

  • @johncenafan2413 kayy so lykk u can do w/e knw u can do sports nd run without no pain nd do ur normel things u use to do??

  • @33heygurl i can do pretty much what whatever i want i just choose not to run cause im afraid ill hurt myself and i can ride my bike but sometimes after my back hurts but i can skate and play hockey just fine( i just basicaly just skate around passing the puck) if you need to know anything else dont be afraid to ask

  • @johncenafan2413 ha well like how did u hurt ur bac?? nd wat did the doc say wat u did to ur bac,, i hurt my bac by skating ugh nd i have an herniated disc!!! nd does ur bac hurt once n awhile or does it hurt to way depends u do??

  • @33heygurl i actually dont no how i hurt my back but i ruptured a disc witch is worse then a herniated disc it means that my bone basicaly popped and the goo that was in it was putting pressure on my nerves and my back only hurts once and a while when i walk or stand for long periods of times

  • @johncenafan2413 okayy thanks nd hope u r better nd feel better than b4!!!

  • @33heygurl hope everything works out for you and that you feel better soon :)

  • i had this surgery in feb 09 n developed cauda equina syndrome in july n had to have emergency back surgery again the disk i had surgery on in feb collapsed be sure to look c.e.s up on here the results r devastating im still dealing with it everyday know the warning signs i was never warned:(.

  • how do you know if you have this sort of problem/?? someoone please respond

  • Easy, numbness in your legs

  • i have occasional numbnesss.. but mine is always located in my buttocks and hips and very occasional in top of leg... this isnt the same isnt?

  • No, it's not. It could be a circulatory problem in your legs. Lack of blood flow can also cause numbness. you should see your doctor about this.

  • @TableTennisDaily if you don't check it out, it will eventually lead to it. I use to be like that an continued working, later on I found out that this was what I had. You should get an MRI done to find out. The sooner the better it is to deal with it.

  • i had this surgery a couple of days ago and I'm still in hospital ,omy dear god the first night in recovery room was the longest night in my entire life ...

  • @adambarfi08 it will all passed...i was very anxious to get out and move my legs.... i was in bed for 2 weeks but now im at home better than ever. Hope the best for you :)

  • i had been in a bike accident years ago and had this done a year ago i am verry verry happy cos i have no more pain and i can walk normal but i still have some neurological problems if you are in real pain then i think you should do it

  • I had a microdiscectomy for one of my herniated disks, no bone shaving or anything. When I woke up from it, within an hour they had me walking, the next day, they had my try stairs and I went on home. Now that I'm pregnant though, oh boy is the back pain back

  • hey im 17 i donno wat to do the docs r suggestin surgery...should i go in for it??

  • I had my surgery when I was 20. I say if the doctors say you need it, definitely get it. I fought for 2 years for them to say I needed the surgery.

  • Ozone therapy is better option. Evaluate it also??

  • shit, im going tomorrow to see if i need this done :(

  • My disc between l4 and l5 was extruded and pinched off. My body aborbed the extruded pinch of disc but I am still swollen on my left lumbar side and I am still having pain. I see a doctor on August 27th. Hopefully I can get it fix and be able to workout once again!

  • Evaluate Ozone therapy as well

  • they left it open ??? o.O? wont it be bad for the nerve @@

  • i had this disc removal done.... they called it a microdiscectomy and they plucked out the broken bits of the disc and sealed it back up with superglue (believe it or not). i was up and walking pain free within an hour after waking up in recovery....

    .

my operation allowed the surgeon to get down with tools between the bones and pull out the disc..... no bone shaving involved, although i was asleep for it....

    (o_O)

  • Did they put some tube through your penis and down your throat before surgery? How long did it last? How are you feeling so far?

  • @stylinexpat;

    .

no tubes, maybe an oxygen mask while i was out.... catheters are for surgeries that have complications and last longer than a few hours. my surgery itself was 3 hours long, and i feel great now. no more pain, no more stiffness, completely fixed the problem.

  • Where did you have your surgery done and what did it cost? How long has it been now since you had your surgery?

I am looking around for a good surgeon now..

  • @stylinexpat . i sent you a message with a bunch written in there; . for anyone reading this, Seago, Randall MD 800 Pollard Rd Los Gatos, CA 95032-1415 (408) 374-2703‎ (408) 374-4738‎ - Fax this is the guy i went to, he did an excellent, flawless job. this information is available via a simple google search if anyone wants to look him up.... or message me! . disclaimer; i am not a doctor, always consult professionals for their specific opinions.
  • That looks very comforting... Kinda like a massage and GREAT RELIEF TO THE BACK!

  • and the stuff in the middle look like noodles=D

  • Wait, you just leave the vertebra just open like that? No implants at all?

  • Ouch.

  • thats exceptionally cool but looks ridiculously simple as a procedure. Im while Im sure that theres a LOT of stuff to get in the way and deal with while working on that disc section removal this is, however, ..great animation which shows the theory as simplified as it can be

  • woh woh woh they just cut through the bone and leave it like that?! 8/

ya thats nice a half spinal bone on your spine :/

  • Can I use my Mastercrasf drill ?

  • this actually looks simple, some one should try it at home ;)

  • do not try this at home without a experience surgery person xD

  • And the patient has no side effects and remains pain free the rest of their lives!

  • que la medula espinal no esta rodeasdo por los nervios ?

  • OUCH!!!!

  • And after it, the backbone stays that open?

  • painful

  • hmm how come no sound?

  • imagine the drilling noise drilling through the spine hahah

  • ouch haha

  • AWESOME

  • That's pretty cool, but at the same time kinda gruesome.
