  • after looking 10 videos on what pentatonic scales actually ARE, non of them actually give the answer!

  • @zimonslot Pentatonic scales are guitar scales with 5 notes instead of the usual 7 notes in any given key

  • Five people don't understand "guitar language"!

  • good

  • Cool riff! I'll def. be using it in my next blues solo!

  • " lemme see if i can speed it up a little bit " as if it presented any type of challenge for you ! lol great video though !

  • thank's marty :)

  • I was wondering why in the other positions of minor Pent. in A when you change to second position the root is no more at the beginning how come it is still called A minor

  • @dragoneti67 It is the notes that define the scale not where the root is in the position. As you move into the other positions you are still playing the same notes, but it is important to know your roots in each position, so you can resolve your phrases to the root of the scale (A in this case). I personally would not bother with the stickers - you need to remember the shapes - not the exact notes - otherwise you'll be stuck in one key if you map out the notes of your A minor pentatonic.

  • @isayoldchap1 Thanks for the advice . I know a lot of guitar players who only rely on their ability to harmonize solos without applying any theory to it . But like some people say that is the monkey see monkey do ideology

that many guitar players like . Just limit themselves to learn someone else's licks .I just found out that my pentatonic solos sound so boring because I wasn't using hammer on's and pull offs

  • I suck at pentatonic scale improvising . I was wondering if you guys have tried putting stickers with the tones on the fretboard from Ebay I think they're called fretnotes .Any advice ?

  • @dragoneti67 Practice

  • just what i needed

  • Nice friendly and importantly very clear teaching style - really like it and found this very useful thank you.

  • that was really helpful!!

the backing track at the end was fun too

    thanks!

  • had so much fun playing along with the backtrack

  • love to learn how you do that background thing, too--thanks

  • its a green screen. sony vegas can do it

  • lovin it, thanks, just what i need

  • hey marty kl pure awesome

  • hey marty. you do know that there are multiple root notes in a scale. you can use those to play a call and response type solo. I think it might help alot if you tell some of your more beggining and intermediate solo players about that. It makes the solos sound less like a random collection of notes. instead it sounds like a true blues solo that has definate start and finish

  • Agreed, a friend of mine who's a guitar teacher is always telling me to get into call and response but it's quite hard to visualise.

  • LOL... 5:30 "It's guitar language ^^

  • you are a great teacher!!

  • That is such a sick background, and by the way I think that this video may very well have the best thumbnail ever. Seriously.

  • FAV VID IM SO PRACTICING THIS!

  • cool

  • yes please teach more lessons on this strange and wonderful thing called "guitar language"

  • easy peezy lemon squeezy lol

  • so umm i watched basically watched all your videos on scales and i never got that the scales stayed the same shape cause in another video it was the a major scale and u started a whole fret behind it so it was 3 to 5 so i didnt know that the scale stayed the same shape even thought i still confused on how to place scales in some songs but u just helped me out a lot thanks

  • A great help as usual Martyingtons! (PS and thanks for your DVD's re Pentatonics which have transformed my playing).

  • Fack this is so hard to do fast on an acoustic. Great lesson as always though Marty, thank you!

  • LESSONS FROM THE WORMHOLE.... O_o

  • have to learn that guitar lauguage^^

  • awesome lesson Marty!

  • excelent lesson! can you use this extended part on any pentatonic scale?

  • I was wondering this aswell.

  • You can on any that has its root on the low E.

  • Yes you can, Marty shows it in a lot of videos using many different pentatonic scales.

The scales are all the same shape, only difference is where the root note is.

Got to try the hammer on and pulling off technique,

I already use the "extended" scales all the time as is (hint: it's easier to play)

  • yeah

  • Love the amp!!!

  • i luv it more
