There is no way around it, if we are not saved by our faith, then we are saved by our works and we no that in us does nothing good exist therefore our works our meaningless. Some will say it is if we produce fruit, but so often they declare works as fruit. Fruit is patience, brotherly kindness, faith, hope love and peace, amongst other of that nature, non of these come about by human effort and without assurance of salvation you cannot produce any of those. Unfortuanately reverer needs to look a little closer at what original language says and means. Reverer has equated "hold fast(firmly) to the word" to obedience. In the Greek the word hold fast is:.. Katecho, "to have or hold fast," is rendered in 1 Corinthians 15:2 (the King James Version) "keep in memory,"

It has to do with keeping it fixed in our minds, not with obedience(works). What we are holding on to is the Word (John 1:1) Christ Jesus Himself. Not our obedience. Ps 51:14-17

NKJV translates it as: "fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked"In verse15 Peter clearly says (in context)that it(salvation)is due to Christ's longsuffering(patience and steadfastness)not ours. Warning us about our steadfastness. The result of our lack of steadfastness, we would stop growing in His grace, not losing it all together.(verse 18) be careful to use every word in context accurately (2tim 2:15)

If I can loose my salvtion, then Christ suffered and died on that cross in vain. His blood was not good enough to save me once and for all. I cannot accept this. Christ was the perfect sacrifice. If my salvation depended on my works, then we could have continued with the animal sacrifices and not have needed the Creator, the King of Kings to come to this earth as a human and suffer the humiliation,shame, pain, suffering and death that he did.

this is referenced by 1 cor 15:14.

In vain refers to the idea that the reserection is up for grabs or a myth, or even worse a pipedream. These verses reference our mind and our faith, the only critereon for salvation(ep 2:8-10) is faith, belief if you will (Gen 15:6) it was only Abram's belief that counted towards his rightiousness. We are sons,joint-heirs,adopted as mature children (Rom 8)
