looking forward to hopefully getting my hands on one of these...i do have to admit i laughed when i read the words boutique and behringer in the same sentence though
What's wrong with compression? I love a certain amount of compression. I think that issue is a bit overblown as most of the great sounds have often quite a bit of compression...I mean they sell compression pedals right?
I used to have a T3, and while I liked the tones it didn't impress me near as much as the Piranha I know own for the hard-n-heavy stuff. But, I once heard a dude with a hot rodded Peavey Rockmaster that blew everything I ever heard right out of the water for heavy tone! Dunno what he had done to it tho, But that peave was a real mesa killing rig!
Does somebody know the differences between the T2 and the T3 ? Are they similay to eaxh other ecept of the footswitchable boost/3.channel and the midi feature?
It's a Behringer FS112B that I mounted the LEDs to. I got the schem for their footswitch from Hafler. I remember though it wasn't a typical wiring scheme.
Thanks for the heads up on the wiring scheme. I am waiting to hear back from Digitech (seems the Hafler site is down). I'm hoping they have a schematic available. Just got the T3 in last night....loving the sound of it so far!
I just got the same footswitch but it doesn't seem to work. Unplugged it stay on the orange channel. Plugged in it goes to green. Do I need to alter the footswitch or do I have a bad input? Have you ever used the midi option? I do like the orange channel at least!
So you did have to modify the actual channel switching as well. I have tried contacting Hafler through their website but doesn't seem to be working. Thanks man.
What model of Behringer footswitch are you using with your T3, and is it a MIDI footswitch? I have a Digitech T3 (their branded version of the Hafler T3) on the way, but it doesn't have a footswitch with it. I can't find a similar footswith on the Behringer site, though it looks sort of like a FS112B or FS112T. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks for the video. I watched it and picked up one. I have the same footswitch. No double stomping required. One press to switch between either distortion or clean. I also love the clean channel even though I hear it's not tube driven, it's nice and sparkly.
Don't mention it.I too collect obscure equipment.I bought a Rockmaster, Soho QTR-1, ADA MP1 (along with 4 FX units) for $150 back when it wasn't trendy to own rack stuff.I'll try to get a side by side comparison between those preamps & my friend's Mesa TriAxes and show there's definitely more bang to the buck for "obscure" preamps. You're playin' definitely puts mine to shame tho! Wow, I'll have to look into attenuating a pre.Rock on!
The attenuation box does wonders for pres such as the Rock Master or amps with multiple channels but no master volume. You're able to crank the channel volumes for the great tones but attenuate it so your ears don't start bleeding. The att. box w/footswitch also double as a solo boost (rhythm reduction) for gigs.
The QTR is one my fav pieces of funky gear that I've been collecting for about 15 years. I'm building a little studio of funky gear & as soon as it's setup I'll put up a sound sample (great tone, bad playing tho!). I have a THD Hotplate attenuator but it goes between my power section & speakers. Great invention! For my heavy distorted tones, I don't use much power tube OD tho. It's about 90% cranked 12ax7. I love your tone with both your clips, keep it up : )
Yeah, upload those Rockmaster videos ;-) I was going to post some, but I'm just too freakin' busy with work (which I should be doing now. LOL!) My studio partner is flaking out anyways. Check the FJA Mods site for RM clips. It can keep up with a Triaxes! For modern metal chug tho, that guy recommends a clean 6L6 tube or SS power section.
Google: "mesa 20/20 peavey rockmaster vs jsx harmony central")to see power section recommendations from JerryP (the guy that does the high gain FJA mods.). EL84s when cranked tend to muddy & brighten my Rockmaster, but they go great for more traditional hardrock/classic metal.
Thanks for the sound samples of obscure preamps, what other preamps, poweramps, equipment, etc are next in the obscure series? Great playin' & good sounding preamp, btw. Keep it up!

Hey......Michael Schenker with a bit too much distortion....Rock Bottom! (great song)
Nice playing but the sound is somewhat compressed and not very open....or are my ears stuffed..

'Boutique quality Behringer footswitch, custom modded with high grade Radio Shack LEDs.'
Get the schem from Hafler.

The LEDs are necessary for this foot switch to function properly. I recall speaking to someone at Hafler for the schem. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll probably upload the Peavey Rock Master next.
One piece of gear I forgot to list is a simple attenuation box that I built, connected between the pre and amp.

That would be great if you uploaded a vid of the Peavey Rockmaster. It is a very underrated, versatile preamp.
