  • Perfect..She is not a kid anymore but WOW, what a voice. As a expat here in Aus. It brings tears tomy eyes.

  • how old is she

  • You think that's a high note? You haven't heard a high note until you've heard the Queen of the Night singing high F in Mozart's "The Magic Flute."

  • Where are the charging Zulus? Just look out your window, mate. Come back Enoch; all is forgiven.

  • too bad she became such a chav

  • Proud to be from Harlech!

  • Where are charging Zulus when you need them ?

  • @bermudarailway pommie git

  • Brilliant 10 out of 10, proud to be Brittish even if I am a geordie.

  • I'm not Welsh (and I don't particularly care for some of Charlotte Church's life choices) but I cannot help but be moved to tears everytime I hear this. I've tried in vain to figure out why this is. Its not difficult to see why all Welshmen seem to grow two foot taller when this is sung. I think, perhaps, it is the sheer pride that so obviously fills these Welsh guys that touches me. They have every right - what a fantastic nation and heritage.

  • @RichardtheDutchman she said some really bad stuff about 9/11. thats what turned me off from her personality.

  • @mackshayster - And so you became one of the many idiots she was referring to in her comments. I would point out to you that her comments make a lot of sense if one actually understood and listened to them. Her comments were not unfeeling, rude, or improper.

  • @mackshayster Cont'd - She was stating her feelings on the way people were perceiving the incident. How people were picking up debris to SELL or profit off of it....those people were RUDE AND UNCARING. Or how people were overestimating the incident and experience...example: 'Yeah, my neighbour's dog's owner's sister's dog was involved, but he got out just in time'. - What? A dog? Really? Come on, 3,000+ people die and a person is worried about a dog? Come on. That person lost perspective.

  • @mackshayster Contd- So her comments were actually quite insightful. Which is what is needed at a critical time and deeply emotional incident as 9/11. She should be applauded for "seeing" the lunacy that was going on after...not ridiculed for it. Of the firefighters and policeman who helped out that day she said this, "The New York fire-fighters displayed remarkable courage and sacrifice every day and their work and efforts at Ground Zero are an extension of that."

  • She can't do wrong, It's not there.

  • UK, and it's constituent geographic/cultural parts, are too cool. As an american, I am an unreconstructed anglophile ( and celtophile and whatever). The welsh are great singers as well as great warriors in wartime.

  • @Slick2614 it'll be even cooler when Wales follows in the US's footsteps and we gain our independence.

  • @richardeast : It's none of my business, but I have to say that it would be good imo if the UK remained strong and unified, instead of breaking apart into a few very small countries. Wouldn't it be sufficent if Wales got more control over its local affairs, rather than breaking completely off from the UK?

  • @richardeast

yes and now the USA is bankrupt and corrupt.

SUCH A GOOD IDEA. did I mention the genocide of Canadians in this "independance"?

  • @WolfytheWolf5667 who gives a fuck about the usa? this is welsh - wales. I went to america in 1995 Portland, and the local poplace didnt know what wales was.....

  • @Kaldhore

Some Brits don't know where Wales is (and the word 'is populace')

  • @WolfytheWolf5667 It should be pointed out that in the United States- unlike Canada- one cannot be imprisoned for the exercise of free speech.

  • @WolfytheWolf5667 It should be pointed out that in the United States- unlike Canada- one cannot be imprisoned for the exercise of free speech. And Canada s less corrupt?

Please explain this "genocide." Sounds to me like the unhistorical, anit-American trash talk common among the more jealous of our northern neigbors. Or neighbours, if you prefer.

  • @bobwaters nobody in canada has been imprisoned for the use of free speech. we are as free as you. even more so because we don't send our troops into illegal wars to be killed. shame on you.

  • @bobwaters lol ur a bit missinformed. typical, fat yanko-centric american

  • @bobwaters lol ur a bit missinformed. typical, fat yanko-centric american. might i add the world hates u. the world doesnt consist of america floating on a sea of mexican immigrants with canada holding on for dear life, there was a world before america and there will be a world after america. wegot on fine before we re-discovered america in 1492 so please fuck off and finish ur supersize mcdonalds

  • @swanyAJ

Wow AJ, if it wasn't for the wonderfull living conditions in merri ole Europe,

you wouldnt have to come and spread your diseases in the nu world!

America is a product of europe and any technique we use to F the world,

we learned it from the best!

  • Both amazing and (pending generous Welsh speakers) incredibly talented.

  • thts a nice song why she sing it in welsh

  • @theirondukesboy because it is a Welsh song? Originally penned in Welsh. Converted to English for the sake of the English. She is Welsh, what language do you think she prefers to sing a Welsh song in?

  • Voice of an angel

  • Needs a full male voice choir belting it out - no offence charlotte :)

  • I cannot believe how many foolish remarks are made on so many beautiful songs and anthems. The music is uplifting, something we all need in our lives. In Benoni, South Africa, we always had a Welsh Male Voice Choir, and oh, the joy they brought! To all out there - you should just be saying - Thank you for the music, the songs that are being sung!! Modern music hasn't a chance against music of this calibre!

  • Inspiring and I'm from the southern U.S of Ulster origin

  • I live and let live. I'm Welsh not British. But if outsiders Want to dictate my life or my families future or my UK friends( Ireland Scotland or England), Then i'll fight to the death as will my family. We might tolerate the situation now, but don't cross the line because we will stick together and fight to the death dirty s we have done in the past. . grimmest117 is right , leave us alone or you'll wish heel had you first!

  • @freddierip1 My Friend, wait until Sharia law attempts to be declared then as brothers we might have to stand and fight together!

  • Theories that humans originated in Africa, use some rather specious DNA evidence to prove their case. DNA sciences are still in their infancy relatively speaking. It is quite possible further discoveries may turn DNA science on it's head and change everything "we thought we knew"! The same goes for anthropology. there are a lot of place on the earth left to explore! Are these the same scientist who were caught red handed "cooking their books" to "prove" the man made global warming theory.

  • @Grimmest117 wut

  • @Grimmest117 Even so, Britain has been invaded by so many different groups of people (the Romans, the Vikings, the Saxons and the Normans) that ultimately most people in this country are going to be descended from 'immigrants' one way or another!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

Genetic studys show no impact actually and theres a large difference between occupation and migration

Also that is southern Britain, the rest where never occupied.

Ethnic genocide, many years from now China will be Chinese, Japan will be Japanese, Africa will be African.

The west.....already a backword broken identityless culturaly lacking multi ethnic multi-CULT-ural cesspool.

  • What does 'Cymru fo am byth' actually mean?

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz WALES FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I shall miss Britain when its gone. Hmm will the muslims let you sing this under sharia?

  • @Grimmest117 Now, now - don't be cynical!

  • @Grimmest117 Wait till the religious wars, the Welsh and the Scots The English and the Irish are bad to be enemies of when they are determined.

  • Too bad there's not gonna be any welsh people left if immigration continues. Very sad indeed...

  • @Nationalisten Might I point out that since the first human beings lived in Africa, Welsh people are ultimately descended from immigrants!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

"Might I point out that since the first human beings lived in Africa, Welsh people are ultimately descended from immigrants!"

And so what ? That's no excuse to let anyone enter Europe and try to deface our cultures, our identities, ou countries.

Some say we must be diverse. Like hell ! Why should we, europeans, be the only ones to melt ourselves away ?

We have to evolve, but we must evolve the way WE want, not the way some others want.

  • @Briselance I'll tell you 'so what' - so it's completely pointless to complain about there being too many immigrants when ultimately we are ALL descended from 'immigrants' one way or another!

  • Comment removed

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

I'll continue the thing in pm. NOt to flood the comment section. :-p

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

And still we have all evolved into different ethnic groups naturally. All men are created equal by nature, and nature have also seen fit to create different ethnic groups or nations if you will. These nations are worth protecting. All nations should be free and sovereign but also be friends with eachother. This does not however include mass immigration who does nothing more than to destroy cultures and create tension and racial violence. No my good sir, let all nations be free!

  • @Nationalisten There is no reason to tar all immigrants with the same brush - it's all this racist, xenophobic vitriol that ruins great countries!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

Where did you read me "tar all immigrants"? Interesting how one can interpret a support for ALL nations (In other words people of all colors and creed) as "tar of all immigrants". Explain yourself, sir!

  • KL437 - Yes, it's sung in Welsh--don't know about the "old Welsh" part. And not all of us Americans are ignorant--you obviously aren't or you wouldn't have known enough to ask this question ;-)

  • @willsevysmile you go troll

  • I know this ignorant (I'm an American) is this sung in old Welsh?

  • Corff bach, llais mawr.

  • @Uttrediay i'm sorry if i'm bothering you with it but please translation for a young dutchman

  • @reinierchristiaan Kleine lichaam, grote stem.

  • @Uttrediay tanks mate wasn't necessary in dutch

    but thanks

  • @reinierchristiaan Men of Harlech stop your dreaming Can't you see their spear points gleaming See their warrior pennants streaming To this battlefield Men of Harlech stand ye steady It cannot be ever said ye For the battle were not ready Stand and never yield From the hills rebounding Let this song be sounding Summon all at Cambria's call The mighty force surrounding Men of Harlech on to glory This will ever be your story Keep these burning words before ye Welshmen will not yield ~♥~
  • TRIPLE AWESOME POST: Great Song + Great Performer + Great Performer!!!!!!!!!

  • God!!! She makes me so proud to be Weslh!!! The Welsh are still turning out some serious talent in the 21st Century. Go CHARLOTTE!!!!

  • Ancestry.com is a place where all you Welshmen might want to visit. I heard the other day that the Parish records, 1700-1950, were coming on line for digital download soon. Many American are part Welsh, Scots, English, Swedish, Finnish, French, Irish, Scots Irish. and more. I AM. Owen Tudor born 1397 in Snowdon, my 16 Great Granfather married Henvy V widow Catherine of Valoise. We have many people who cannot track their ancestry, but others we can. Go Wales

  • I love this version, Charlotte Church is a doll.

  • @progressiverebel Seconded

  • the welsh need to be blessed lol

  • Scottish born and proud. I will always stand by my Welsh and Irish brothers. All Celts together

  • I can't fault the woman

  • She was a young girl when she sang this song. Of course she went on to make all the mistakes of the young, that doesn't take away anything from her talent.

  • Shes developed some nice Welsh valleys thesedays.

  • @hablerz They don't make them any prettier. she seems nice, if a bit fiesty. Grins

  • @progressiverebel She was only age 12 at this performance.

  • @frankantoniomartin , Make me proud to be partly Welsh, the family descends from the Welsh Kings back to the year 300, Owen Tudor is my 16th Great Grandfather, he married Catherine who was Harry the Kings, Henry V wife after Harry died.

Harry is a first cousin and Sir John Grey with 26 Lances was with Harry At Agincourt. I really like Charlotte..

  • @progressiverebel right mate, i'm welsh myself and there fore i'm proud of my roots but the concept of descendants doesn't really work as even going back to the year 800 you end up havign more anceastors than there have ever been humans on earth at one time. it's something liek 80 billion anceastors at that point as you have parents who each have parents whpo each have parents... the whole grain of rice on a chess board trick :( sorry to burst your bubble :(

  • @frazzledazzler , At 24 living in a small country you have much yet to see of the world. You talk about bursting my bubble. At 7 generations a person has a total of 364 ancestors, at 8 gen it increases to 620. But within me they still live. And since I know some of them and where they lived its ok. Queen Elizabeth Winsor is my 9th cousin. I know the facts and I know who many of the people were. They were good people

  • @progressiverebel the amount of the world i've seen doesn't really have much to do with this, no offense mate. The point of this is that the human race is much older than just 8 generationgs with the life expectency of anyone living pre 1800 being around about 30-40 at most, the amount of generation increase dramatically and it's not like someone lives 40 years and then the next lives 40 years people tended to breed every 15- 17 years so that's like 6 generation a centuary

  • @frazzledazzler now that's what 1700 years of that going on, you're related to Y brenaeth as much as you're related to the servents who served them and some anglo saxon bastard living 1000 miles away. nationalism is a nice concept but anceastory logically doesn't help it out unfortunalty. Definative proof is that there's more genetic similarity between a man living in china and myself than there is between two apes in the same family, we all come from the same small group of apes.

  • @frazzledazzler That's right - it's physically impossible to have that many ancestors, therefore the only way it could be true is with a lot of loose sleeping around outside of conventional marriage. Hence, if you go reasonably far back, most people are related to each other, however distantly.

  • @progressiverebel She looks so sweet and innocent in this video - what went wrong?

  • @hablerz LOL

  • @hablerz How old was she at the time she did this?

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz She was 11 or 12.

  • @Lizfan2 Right - she reminds me a bitof a friend of mine when she was the same age (she doesn't look anything like her now though!)

  • @hablerz

    true, but shes pregnant

  • @hablerz She's probably used to lots of pobol y "cum" because those Welsh Valley's of her's. lol. XD

  • @bugsbunny2022 crude but funny

  • Comment removed

  • @hablerz

    How green was her valley?

  • @hablerz

    Awww yeah. ^^

Besides, how old is she in this video ?

  • @Briselance About 11 or 12 I think

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz

I've just looked it up, she was 12 in 1998.

  • @hablerz ah, damn you, suggestive commentators.

  • Ruined by booze and fangs, what a waste of a good talent.

  • Magnífica musica. Muy emotiva

    Muchas gracias por compartirla.

Saludos desde el sur de España.

  • sounds better in English great voice

  • ha we welsh make good

    songs

  • shes the polar opposite of justin Bieber, a young girl with talen that sounds like someone with 20 years more experiance

  • who knew shed grow up to be such a bitch?

  • @Geistmeister6 I think she just grew up mate.

  • @Geistmeister6 'Voice of an Angel' - she might sing like an angel, but it's a pity she doesn't behave like one!

  • Waay before Gav!

  • The song with its choir of Welsh male voices is famously associated with Cardiff City Football Club, in the English Championship.

Cardiff City iFC is known as The Bluebird of Wales.

It sports a Welsh flag on its blue shirt, as well as a dragon and a leek on its crest.

  • is that sean connery at 2:35 ?

  • @Geistmeister6 Wasnt Sean connery Scottish? not welsh i dont know though lol

  • I love this song

  • What is the choir's name??? I couldnt understand it. If anyone knows send me a mail or something plz. Thanks!

  • @Mr19thIndiana I think it said the London Male Voice Choir.

  • British, I admire your patriotism to England. You as a group and the lady did wonderful!

  • what is this song about?

is it about the welsh fighting the english? saxon bastards!!!

  • Nothing beats a Welsh male voice choir - unless you stick a soprano in front of them and belt out a classic like this. _o_

  • HOLY CRAP, the last note was HIGH!!

  • My favourite part would be the point of intervention of Charlotte's voice at 2:46 with the male background. What a fantastic contrast!

  • Makes me proud to be welsh.

  • CYMRU AM BYTH!!!

  • -- That'samazing. All those singers in the back, with the years of experience they already have, get to serve as back-up vocals to this little girl who according to:

    YouTube ID = CChurchFan

† "She was 11 or 12 when she did the "Men of Harlech" rendition."

-- I just imagine them saying, "Who gets to be this little girl who gets to star IN FRONT of us? Just WHO is she?" And then at the end when she hits that last note they say, "#OMG, THAT'S who she is. Amen sisters & brothers."

  • how old was she when she started taking lessons

  • Why aren't Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson like Posh and Becks?

Because she can sing and he can take a penalty.

  • "All the taffies f++k their Brothers,

F++k their Sisters, F++k their Mothers,

All the Taffies f++k each otherrrrrrrr

    F++k Off back to Wales.....:)

Sorry couldn't resist repeating the MILLWALL fans rendition to the visiting Cardiff City fans at The Lions Den, MILLWALL.....:)

  • @betty9920

Re the ear comment, stood at the back of the queue when the brains were being handed out were you?

  • Voice of an angel....

  • wow, this never sounded so good, I should let the mt. union college band director know about this video, they use this for their alma matter

  • it was the siege of harlech thats really inspiring

  • @ssteven3300 ahha well done blackpool

  • I had a crush on Charlotte. She has a beautiful voice.

  • @UtahMike41 How old is she anyway?

  • @Mullahgrrl That is a good question so I looked it up. She was born 21 February 1986 so that makes her 24.

  • God Bless The Welsh! OK

  • Grew up singing this in school assembly. I am part Welsh in my ancestry.

  • March ye men of Harlech bold, Unfurl your banners in the field,

Be brave as were your sires of old, And like them never yield!

What tho' evry hill and dale, Echoes now with war's alarms,

Celtic hearts can never quail, When Cambria calls to arms.

  • Such a wonderful and haunting song! wow.

  • thats the tune of my school song

  • Rick Rescorla was a Brit.

  • She was so sweet until she met Gavin Henoson or is it the other way round.

  • Welsh roots. Born in Wales to Welsh parents and Welsh Nanas and Bampas.

  • Proud to be Welsh. Welsh born, Welsh parents, Welsh Nanas and Bampas.

  • beautiful soprano voice xxxxxx

  • i love this song and am english but what ever are diffranses we are one long live the uk because we need each other

  • Very stirring song , my Great ,great Gran was Welsh , Her name was Lily Jones , you cannot get anymore Welsh than that !!

  • Dunno. My grandad was John Olds.

  • My great great grandfather's step sister's cousin was half welsh. His name was Klaus Schumacher. Can't get anymore welsh than that can you boyo

  • Back then her voice was so unaffected and pure. Angelic.

A voice that most of the adult soprano wannabes would love to have.

  • Never thought of "Men of Harlech" being sung by anything other than an all male Chorus, but Charlotte Church has definately changed my mind.

  • Just amazing - I love her

  • Charlotte had a fabulous voice but I think ciggies have probably affected it adversely by now. She was fantastic here though.

  • A (Cornwall-born) American hero named Rick Rescorla oft sang this song when under fire. He sang it to rally his men in the Battle of the Ia Drang Valley (Vietnam '65) and was also heard singing it as he ran back into the World Trade Center for the last time, dying as he tried to save as many people as possible during the attacks of 9/11. Rescolrla was credited with saving many hundreds of employees of the firm he was employed by.A TRUE hero and an honorable bloodline....

  • god bless him. a soldier through and through. jim, ex british army.

  • @jrmcanine a english born American with italian name fought in Ia Drang with Hal Moore and sung a Welsh song and saved employes out of WTC? hmm......

  • dc3bb61@ozeangruen

I guess so, I had to drop the link to be able to post , but run a goggle search for the name. Rick Rescorla

  • @dc3bb61 fist i was critical but then I reviewed his story at wiki! Great Man!

  • @jrmcanine Oh my god ! What a man of incredible courage and fortitude . I would love to have met him and shared a few beers and the like . A man in all manner !!

    God bless him.

  • @jrmcanine really, every time i hear this song it gives me goosebumps

  • @jrmcanine God Bless him.

  • @jrmcanine,

    >> Cornwall-born

-- What the heck does cornwall born mean?

  • @MikeSPx24bj9 sir, cornwall born means that he was born in the area of britain known as the duchy of cornwall it is just under wales and it is the farthest west of england.

  • @MikeSPx24bj9 Er, I presume it means born in Cornwall!

  • @jrmcanine I don't know about the figures you quote, or about his singing this song, (not saying you are wrong), but I can back you up on the fact that Sargeant Rescorla was a hero in the Ia Drang and that he did indeed die pulling people from the World Trade Center. I didn't fight with him, but I heard about him. Semper Fi, Sarge.

  • @jrmcanine Thank You for sharing the story of a True Hero !

  • Comment removed

  • @jrmcanine There were no american heroes in Vietnam... In that war the most of the US soldiers were only poor victims of a warmongering and exploiter America, sent to die by a clique of generals and politicians, servants of the worst economic interests. And some (thankfully the few) of those soldiers were nothing but was a bloodthirsty murderer... the only true hero of that war was the Vietnamese people.

  • @hpl00064 You are a very disrespectful oaf and an insult to memory of all those young men who were sent and did not return from that war. Not that your comments have anything to do with Men of Harlech, of which you are defilitely not one.

  • Comment removed

  • @hpl00064 Were you one of the spitters at US airports when draftees came home from war or are you some blame America firster from another country?

  • @jrmcanine i ama welsh, british and european champ, but when i wake i feel lost but i still thank the lord im am welsh !!!!!!!!
