Help meeeeeee! I get how to download freeware into MSTS,I just cant get them to appear in the game.I did tons of files and after i put the in the file location,only the same default trains are on their.Plzz leave a commwnt on how to fix this problem.I have windows vista.
@dijonvenableiscool I got the same problem, I've read some about Xtracks, I installed, but still nothing works. When I start the game, there appears a screen that there is a fail in Programfiles\microsoft games\train simulator\trains
it's just like you used Fraps for games (I have), but for other things like how do I use cheat engine (example) when I can not route because that is not listed when I installed it there with me heb.kun help (via email)
@sammyb1929 Are you doing it correctly? Instructions. Put disk 1 in. Wait. When instructed, remove disk 1. Put in disk 2. Wait 5 seconds before you click continue (lets the disk load). Click continue. Wait. When instructed, remove disk 2. Put in disk 1 Wait for 5 seconds before you click continue (lets disk load). Click continue and finish installation. Use disk 1 to play. This is how you install most games (disks). Hope this helps. :)
@plippert01 Well if you open the folder often using run, the path will automatically show up in there, and all you have to do is hit enter. Beats opening it via My Computer. Of course an even faster way that I've been using for the past year is a desktop shortcut.
@murjax Yes. I also figured out that you need to include this: (x86) in the folder adress to get it to work that problem is solved. But now i have the problem of my downloads not showing up when i try to find them in the driver menus any quick fix tips there ha?
@AA191roblox You have to put the route folder in MSTS first. Also be sure you haven't deleted your default routes because the batch file copies files from those into your route.
@robotandlegolover That is part of the NEC Pack from trainsim. The pack includes those Amfleets, as well as AEM-7s in Amtrak and SEPTA paint, and an NJT ALP-44.
@zohaib338 Just put the route in the routes folder as usual. Most newer routes actually don't have installme.bat files. The older ones used them because they used a lot of shapes from the default routes, so they needed a way to copy them over. These days however most routes use custom shapes since they are so easy to make.
@85floridagators Well I'm pretty sure there are more addons available for MSTS than Railworks. As far as quality goes however I can't say because I've never used Railworks.

@Pillot21Productions Trainsim.com is the most common place for MSTS stuff. There are many other good ones too like KLW, MLT, 3DTS, all of which are worth checking out. As far as Croydon goes, I know the train is available on trainsim, but I don't think anyone has made a route for it yet.
it looks like it beacuse i actualy downloaded a route and it said cannot find texture file then it copied everything else but the texture files but the route still works but the trains end up being a dark pale green color and a rough edged rectangle?

@RickieFareShowe18 It's a program that enhances the functionality of MSTS. Some routes and trains require it. Download it, and if it still doesn't work, then the stuff you got is probably just corrupt.
@foroke1 When you download the file save it to the desktop. It's just like any other file. Now if you mean how do you UNzip it, right click the file, then click extract here.
i have done the part when u put it in the folder but when i try to start train simulator loads of messages pop up and say something like error reading file??????
Actually no I have a better idea because it's going to take forever to download. Move your folder to C:\program files\microsoft games. That's the default directory. It will work then.
You probably need a folder within the msts folder. I forget where xtracks is located, but look at the default directory it gives you and then find that folder in your directory.

Xtracks is not required for trains to work but it is required for some routes, especially newer ones such as the PRR Eastern Region and the Cajon Pass 3.
unless someone with winrar can help me. I download the train and it says its in the trainset folder. But when i go to put it on a train, its not there. And yes i did look in the right section for it at the activity editor.

ill tell you how. first download the 4723 d9 horn from train sim. then extract the file to your desktop. next copy the file. then go to microsoft games/ Train simulator/ Trains/ dash 9/ sound the paste the horn and rename it. let me know if it works!
i know, the last time i went there(i was eating at the pizza restaurant there, good pizza) and i had a perfect view of the signals, and they turned green every 10 minutes. it was awesome, and all of the trains were acela, i even saw 2 regionals and 6 locals
All my visits there were about 15 minutes long, and I've always seen 1-3 trains each time. I've only seen the Acela in person once though. 110 MPH doesn't seem that fast when you watch it in videos, but up close in person will scare you to death.
that's exactly what happened to me, the first time i went there, i wasn't scared, and like once it came closer it just looked like i was about to die (even though i wasn't) i just got the nervous feeling once it went by i even said s***! it's cool but yet scary.

Same here. I live in Florida, probably one of the worst places in the country for passenger trains. We have tons of freight, but not where I live. I live 3 miles from the Florida East Coast main line, but the frequency of trains here is about every 3-4 hours or so and trains don't run on that much of a schedule (although theirs is better than most). The only time I get to do any sort of railfanning is when I visit the northeast and go to awesome stations like Old Saybrook.
your right, florida isn't really that great for passenger trains, but when i go down to visit, i see alot of trains(freight) it does get a little annoying, but i mostly sometimes see tri-rail too. thats why i like florida :), the one thing i dont like about the NEC is there is hardly any horn action and i can't even look at the train it's gone in seconds.
Oh yeah, Tri-Rail is great, except I've never been to south Florida in my life. I live in north Florida. As far as horn action is concerned, you really should be able to get quite a bit,, especially if you're at a station. They're required to blow for stations (although they don't always do so) if they're on the platform track. Also, if you find a slow area, or go to a major station where almost every train stops, you'll be able to get a nice look at the train.
ohh, tri-rail doesn't go up that far? and don't you see like Amtrak's starlight? i think its starlight. Also I go around new haven train station alot, i get to see everything.
go to the Laplata, Missouri. When i went there i saw like 4 freights in half an hour!!!!! NO JOKE! Oh you will also see Amtrak superliners. The station has the amtrak scedual. This is a VERY ACTIVE STATION!!
hey can anyone help me i finally got amtrak engines able to play but they have no horn and the full cab doesnt show can some one help please. i downloaded an amtrak pack the folders are not seen in trainset folders

Ok, make sure the main folder for the train isn't inside the folder you put in your trainset folder. If this isn't the case, then the file is probably corrupted.
can someone give me steps or help me install a amtrak p40 engine i thought i did it but when i loaded the game it said failed to open can someone shoe me please
u dont have to type all that in. all you have to do is go to start. my computer. local drive or the c drive. program files. microsoft games. train simulator. and there is a whole list of files from your routes, trains, etc.
If you type it in once, then it will save it for the next time you open the run box. Then all you have to do is click OK. Much easier than doing all that extra clicking lol.

I've had the same problem. It seems people need a detail to detail explanation to figure it out. That's the whole reason I made this video and talked through it. If I just put a little bit of text here and there, they might not get it.
500 character limits never cut it for my comments :P. A way to stop the hassle getting to the Train Simulator folder would be right-clicking the folder then click "Create shortcut" and it should appear nearby, then move that shortcut to the Desktop and...wallah! I thought it gave a nice, general description and I don't see many other videos on a subject like this, very helpful ^_^!
I made a similar video but I might delete it since it doesn't have a high quality option (a nightmare when most of the text is blurry, and I have a HORRIBLE voice) :P. My old computer used to view zip files just like on yours, but I could open them and could move the items inside just as easy as any other folder. My current computer uses winRar to extract files and its just as good as yours :P.
So much to write...you have a nice assortment of routes and stuff on your system :D!

I've never tried london underground, but you either have an installer you're supposed to run or you have to put the folder in the routes folder.

Most likely you installed the sounds in the UP Challenger folder itself when it was supposed to go somewhere in the Common.snd folder.

yeah haha, i thought they didn't seem that fast. That's only because i really don't see trains in person, but i love em, and look what happened to me, i thought i was going to die. haha

Same here. I live in Florida, probably one of the worst places in the country for passenger trains. We have tons of freight, but not where I live. I live 3 miles from the Florida East Coast main line, but the frequency of trains here is about every 3-4 hours or so and trains don't run on that much of a schedule (although theirs is better than most). The only time I get to do any sort of railfanning is when I visit the northeast and go to awesome stations like Old Saybrook.

your right, florida isn't really that great for passenger trains, but when i go down to visit, i see alot of trains(freight) it does get a little annoying, but i mostly sometimes see tri-rail too. thats why i like florida :), the one thing i dont like about the NEC is there is hardly any horn action and i can't even look at the train it's gone in seconds.

Oh yeah, Tri-Rail is great, except I've never been to south Florida in my life. I live in north Florida. As far as horn action is concerned, you really should be able to get quite a bit,, especially if you're at a station. They're required to blow for stations (although they don't always do so) if they're on the platform track. Also, if you find a slow area, or go to a major station where almost every train stops, you'll be able to get a nice look at the train.

ohh, tri-rail doesn't go up that far? and don't you see like Amtrak's starlight? i think its starlight. Also I go around new haven train station alot, i get to see everything.

go to the Laplata, Missouri. When i went there i saw like 4 freights in half an hour!!!!! NO JOKE! Oh you will also see Amtrak superliners. The station has the amtrak scedual. This is a VERY ACTIVE STATION!!

hey can anyone help me i finally got amtrak engines able to play but they have no horn and the full cab doesnt show can some one help please. i downloaded an amtrak pack the folders are not seen in trainset folders

ok so i did what u said i got rid of zip file or whatever the unzip thing and got zip genious nd everything was automatically unzipped and then i put the file into the trainset thing and nothing the train was not in the consist thing :( but thanks for the video PLEASE REPLY! PLEASEEE! THX :D

Ok, make sure the main folder for the train isn't inside the folder you put in your trainset folder. If this isn't the case, then the file is probably corrupted.

u dont have to type all that in. all you have to do is go to start. my computer. local drive or the c drive. program files. microsoft games. train simulator. and there is a whole list of files from your routes, trains, etc.

If you type it in once, then it will save it for the next time you open the run box. Then all you have to do is click OK. Much easier than doing all that extra clicking lol.

I've had the same problem. It seems people need a detail to detail explanation to figure it out. That's the whole reason I made this video and talked through it. If I just put a little bit of text here and there, they might not get it.

500 character limits never cut it for my comments :P. A way to stop the hassle getting to the Train Simulator folder would be right-clicking the folder then click "Create shortcut" and it should appear nearby, then move that shortcut to the Desktop and...wallah! I thought it gave a nice, general description and I don't see many other videos on a subject like this, very helpful ^_^!
P.S. Where did those amfleet sounds come from :o?

I made a similar video but I might delete it since it doesn't have a high quality option (a nightmare when most of the text is blurry, and I have a HORRIBLE voice) :P. My old computer used to view zip files just like on yours, but I could open them and could move the items inside just as easy as any other folder. My current computer uses winRar to extract files and its just as good as yours :P.
So much to write...you have a nice assortment of routes and stuff on your system :D!
