No, what the other guys said is correct, they wrote the entire thing for Channel 4. They state that on the comedy connections video (which is included in the full boxed set, good times).

Very true, I once saw an interview with Linehan and Matthews who said that Father Dougals childlike simplicity was based on the similar traits in most priests they had known. Interestinglyhowever, my in-laws are catholic and just wont watch this show.
