I think that torture is only acceptable if you have a scenario in which the clock is ticking and you don't have much time (24 like circumstances). You are spot on Robrobbins. You still have to face trial if you harm someone in self defense and then hope you are not convicted of a crime. I know this from experience a group of five people decided to pick a fight with me, there was no possible way of leaving this situation and they had every intention of jumping me. I did not throw the first punch, and only acted when the first person swung a knife at him so I punched his throat.
The other four ran and called the police. I was the only person who was searched and arrested even though there were five of them and one of me. I spent four days in a holding cell (which Im not even sure is legal as usually the maximum allowed in such a holding cell is 24-48 hours) and then had to show up in court at a later date, and all of this from throwing one punch in self defense imagine how hard it would be on a person if in order to defend yourself or property you fired a gunshot.

The adminstration included an 11th hour addition to the the 2006 Military Commissions Act. That included immunity for torture. The adminstration pushed this through Congress right before the 2006 elections (while the GOP still controlled Congress). - The obviious question being. If what they were doing was legal. Then why did they think they needed immunity?

This is not about impeachment, and if you look at it in terms of "If you don't want to impeach him, then you support him," your point of view is no different than that of the Bush Doctrine. I'm a Republican, and I'm not really a fan of John Yoo, nor am I a fan of torture. I think that torture is only acceptable if you have a scenario in which the clock is ticking and you don't have much time (24 like circumstances). Otherwise, it generally doesn't work and it contradicts our core beliefs of liberty and Democracy - the beliefs for which we lead the rest of the world in.

The problem with this loophole is that it's what's been used on so many innocent people to get them to confess to anything. This one guy was a taxi driver and was tortured into confessing that he was Osama Bin Laden's driver. Then he was given the choice - plead guilty and you get a lawyer, plead not guilty and you get no lawyer and more torture. He plead not guilty.

Constitutionally speaking, there is a point in time at which the Bush Administration is no longer considered to be the indictable party to war crimes. You must first establish when the act or atrocities should have been known to the Speaker of the House. Failure to hold hearings on the part of the Speaker is not or can not be used as a reason to avoid prosecution. Nancy Pelosi is more responsible for Torture and the Iraq War than the Bush Administration. The Constitution is clear about this.

You are spot on Robrobbins. You still have to face trial if you harm someone in self defense and then hope you are not convicted of a crime. I know this from experience a group of five people decided to pick a fight with me, there was no possible way of leaving this situation and they had every intention of jumping me. I did not throw the first punch, and only acted when the first person swung a knife at him so I punched his throat.

The other four ran and called the police. I was the only person who was searched and arrested even though there were five of them and one of me. I spent four days in a holding cell (which Im not even sure is legal as usually the maximum allowed in such a holding cell is 24-48 hours) and then had to show up in court at a later date, and all of this from throwing one punch in self defense imagine how hard it would be on a person if in order to defend yourself or property you fired a gunshot.

Under the Bush regime, innocent people are being tortured and false information is being obtained all the time. I'm terrified of what I see this world becoming.
