  • Wrong! It's The Duchess at Odeon Leicester Square, not Odeon West End (formerly the Leicester Square Theatre and, of course, she's a Compton, not a Wurlitzer. And I've played her...

  • This organ also had a Melotone Unit fitted but never attached to the console. Strange! Is it still Donald McKenzie who is the Resident Organist?

    Gary

  • The melotone is fitted, its there.

  • Got an idea the Leicester Square Theatre had a smallish Wurlitzer at one time, wouldn`t put money on it tho.

  • One of them did, im not sure which, but the odeon always had the compton.

  • Yes you are both right in part in that the clip is the OLS 5/17 Compton. But the Leicester square theatre(Buchanens theatre) originally had a 2/10 wurlitzer organ now at the Cotton museum in Suffolk. The Empire Leic sq had a 4/20 wurlitzer, the warner had a 3/12 compton-Londons West end was inundated with them.Only a handful left in their original location now.Gaumont kilburn,Apollo hammersmith,Habitat regent street are about it now in the centre.

  • Well actually it's the 5 manual 17 Rank Compton organ at the Odeon Leicester Square - as far as I know the West End Odeon (formerly the Leicester Square Theatre) never had a cinema organ. Anyway thanks for posting it;s nice to see the old "Duchess" is still going strong.
