Absolutely. To me, (though I am far, far, FAR from world class!) a serve has always had three main components: 1) Strategy: When to use what serve and how to set it up with other serves. 2) Deception: How to disguise the actual spin that's on the ball (something top players do exceptionally well (search for Waldner)) and 3) Spin: Great players not only disguise the spin, but put a tremendous amount of actual spin on the ball. In some cases it would be hard to return even if you knew what it was.

a serve should be spinny, short & and fast.

if the serve is fast, short adn spinny is very hard for teh opponents to see what spin it's in!
