How do you guys know when the engine is warm enough to start pulling a load without straining it?

@SirDeanosity Start it.. wait 1 minute... Rev it to 1000 rpm's and wait till the engine temp is OK... that's how i do it when it's REALY REALY cold... doesn't happen too often here in belgium tho :P
