Interesting, and I very much like the results--problem with using oil on paper (if it isn't sized) the oil WILL over time eat-up/destroy the paper. I oil paint on paper all the time, but it is something you have to keep in mind.
@RazorRivetRiot yeah, on that comment, prismas suck, i got tiered of them. They dont blend well even if your using the same color, it shows the strokes. Try Chartpak oc Copic markers, they are pricier but super juicy and pro quality
Interesting technique! Prismacolors drive me nuts, due to the paper specks glaring through, no matter how much colorless blender I use. I tried something similar to this (alcohol & cotton swab): worthless.
Sorry to burst your balloon....we were taught this technique over 25 years ago in art school illustration class...this is truthfully an old 30's, 40's, and 50's illustration technique...right out of many of the old books on illustration...the old guys had it first...so you are just catching up....
I have since discovered that color pencil can be 1.) Glazed over with transparent oil paint and 2.) Mixed with oil paint (painted on top of color pencil). Thanks for the kind comment and for subscribing! Its nice to meet you!
Very cool. I love learning new medium techniques and because I am 54 and past the opportunity of going back to school YouTube allows me to learn new things quickly. This is an awesome technique and I cannot wait to try it out!
Thanks for commenting and subscribing! It is nice to meet you. I have given up on school as well (ironically I am a teacher)but, some of the best learning that I have ever experienced has been from internet videos. They are usually short and to the point and you cam press rewind as much as you want! :) Thanks again!
Great job. Funny I have a picture of myself when I was around 3 with my father. It was taken on a farm were my father worked which is now Mahattenville collage. That was 59 years ago. My son recently graduated from there.
I graduated from Manhattanville in 2001. I loved my time there! I met my wife there, took my first art class there- etc. The man that I am drawing (Professor Bowling) has taught there for 25 years and I did this portrait (this is only part) to honor his contributions. I bet if you ask your son, he will know Professor Bowling pretty well (even if he didnt major in History). Thanks for commenting and checking out my work!
how do you come up with the color of skin tones? What colors? Reds peaches and purples greys for light skin tones and then more browns for darker? Could you do a tutorial?
Photoshop, eat your heart out!
