Yes this is a horrible accident. But to all the truck driver haters out there before you post anti trucker comments you need to know that this was not the truck drivers fault. The pitman arm which is part of the steering linkage broke resulting in the rig becoming completely unsteerable.
As shocking as it may seem truck drivers people with families too. No trucker would just purposely and blatantly cut over like that and cause an accident. This was mechanical failure.

He told police through an interpreter that he looked up and saw brake lights! LOOKED UP? where was he looking before he looked up? At his cell phone maybe? The pitman arm? Are you kidding? I know wonderful truck drivers who were all horrified by this because the driver and company he drive for were negligent. nIf you are wondering how I know, I was in the bus.
I have 8 clients who are truckers(the best in the business) also have several oil companies and waste/carting clients. All have explained their horror in this accident. My brother is a master mechanic, so I have been told what happened. This driver was driving a truck that was 96,000 pounds! it was 16,000 pounds Overweight! It was hauling municipal waste(which is basically concrete type stuff) IT HAD BALD TIRES. It was sited for several safety violations.
I understand you wanting to defend truckers ,but trust me this guy was untrained and should never been driving a truck. He should not have a CDL (aka trucking license) because he could not read street signs in english. You don't need to try to prove something to me about the pitman arm, My human arm had to have extensive surgery and will never be the same. There are plenty of safe truckers out there ,but many companies hire cheap illegals to drive instead
I completely agree with you. At one time trucking companies were actually owned by truckers and ex truckers who new the importance of hiring safe drivers which was a good thing. Now however most trucking companies are usually owned by a holdings company which is ran by a bunch of greedy share holders who most likely have never driven anything bigger than their Toyota Prius- who care only about profit margin.
The worst part of this after the accident all of us on the bus(and Brian In the car) were told that the trucking company had no insurance, they let it lapse. We all had to go through Nofault and our injuries were not treated promptly. I was not even allowed to use my personal insurance because the injuries were due to the accident. It took one year before they would do an MRI and fix my severely torn rotator cuff. I am sure you can understand the anger I live with.

I have been driving buses for over 10 years now and this video scared the heck out of me. Rigs have big blind spots and take a long time to stop. Stay away from the trucks and leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles. There was no space cushion here. SCARY!
Dead right about rigs (or trucks/lorries/wagons as we call them here in the UK) and blind spots. Something to be given a very wide berth.
Unfortunately there are some terrible drivers out there and it's scary when they drive something that big. One night this month one was so close I couldn't see his headlights and could read the licence plate in my rear-view I got my girlfriend to call the police to deal with him. A driver I expect will kill someone, I'm just glad it wasn't me that day.

When i was in trak my senior year in high school, I was in a bus, (Sitting in the last seat) that was at rest just before a railroad crossing... it was raining a truck failed to stop before it collided with us... pretty scary...i found my self out of my seat and about 6 rows forward in the bus... i was the only on in the back seat... both back seats failed to exist after the accident...

@CaptDouchebag Thanks, I appreciate the comment. Its something you don't easily get over. I still have near panic attacks when a truck is changing lanes on the Long Island Expressway. The video still freaks me out, I can't watch it with the volume on.

I have been driving buses for over 10 years now and this video scared the heck out of me. Rigs have big blind spots and take a long time to stop. Stay away from the trucks and leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles. There was no space cushion here. SCARY!

Dead right about rigs (or trucks/lorries/wagons as we call them here in the UK) and blind spots. Something to be given a very wide berth.
Unfortunately there are some terrible drivers out there and it's scary when they drive something that big. One night this month one was so close I couldn't see his headlights and could read the licence plate in my rear-view I got my girlfriend to call the police to deal with him. A driver I expect will kill someone, I'm just glad it wasn't me that day.

I know, you're right. I mean, I understand that I have to drive safely, defensively and calmly, but still I can't shake off that sometimes an accident was all in someone else's hands, and that's when I flip. But yeah, thanks for telling me that. ^^ it helps to have someone be reassuring.

When i was in trak my senior year in high school, I was in a bus, (Sitting in the last seat) that was at rest just before a railroad crossing... it was raining a truck failed to stop before it collided with us... pretty scary...i found my self out of my seat and about 6 rows forward in the bus... i was the only on in the back seat... both back seats failed to exist after the accident...
