My friends and I took a trip in the summer around England, from driving around the countryside, to walking around London, with this album constantly playing. We took some acid and had a picnic in this deep green field, near Breedon on the Hill, the church in the distance. I remember thinking that I was in paradise, with the deep blue sky above me and the lush ground beneath, when my friend put the stereo down and pressed play. It really was perfect.
Hey Ladies and Gents, Im an independent artist trying to share a link to my latest video on here because Jesu is has a sound that has inspired me. I feel its a good idea to come here because I know a lot of you like digging for music. I hope that whoever hits this likes what they hear and will join my cause on Facebook and or Reverb Nation. Thank you listeners!
Oh wow, I actually took my headphones, this is so beautiful. I felt for a moment that I'm not ready to listen to this. The song is doing something to me!
All I could do was sit completely still and stare at the album cover when I listened to the whole disc. I was and still am at a loss of words and have no emotions that portray what I feel about this music.
@KatzenjammerFuu You are witty and insightful. You bring a fresh and unique viewpoint to the internet. The clothes your mother dresses you in don't look silly at all.
Jesu is inspiring to say the least. I feel his music is very optimistic and it coveys a feeling of connectedness to everything and everyone around us in a way that is truely profound, for me anyways. Jesu always puts me in a positive mindset and I just love it. Its like medicine for the soul!
Honestly, this is an awesome band but i prefer Isis, maybe it's cause I've listened to them earlier also Isis has a more "sludge" feeling to it. Listen to 20 minutes/ 40 years and tell me it's not amazing.
While I too love Isis and there is some definite friendship and colaboration between them and Jesu, their music is very different IMO. I do not see it as a fair comparison but you may have explored their similarities further than I have.
Isis is similar to jesu in how they are bother very heavy and very atmospheric, although jesu is more influenced by dream pop and shoegaze, and Isis is more influenced by, well, justin Broaderick.
Having never heard Isis before - but adoring Jesu - i just checked the former out. Really don't get it or how folk could compare them to Jesu, unless I just happened upon the wrong songs on youtube. Any suggestions most appreciated :-)
People that play the genre game need to find other shit to do. Who cares what genre it is. Your endeavors to label everything almost completely meaningless: it does not change the music and it tends to make people argue. Good job, in the ned you have done nothing other than "speak" for the sake of being heard. Get a fucking hobby.
it's always interesting to encounter people who critique genrefication yet fail to see the hypocrisy in using language - ie. laughably abstract codified signifiers - to do so.
The so-called "genre game" is not exactly meaningless. The reason we have genres in the first place is to classify music by its sonic characteristics and understand the music we create in a more intimate fashion. What IS meaningless is this parading of ignorance that convinces people this self righteous stance of being 'anti-genre' is what is better for music. I for one think that's bullshit. Also, even though you weren't talking to me. Music is my hobby and love.
"Self-righteous"? hahaha. Please explain how trying to classify music specifically at all helps anything other than satisfying a need to amass trivial information. By all means, send me a two-thousand word paper on it. I'd really like to see that opinion supported with examples and such. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.
With that said; Vathek would still have the dark mysteriousness about it that is a defining trait of Gothic literature. How does knowing that it is Gothic change the book? All being aware of a genre does is conjure up a bunch of general notions about something. The creator meant what they meant. Background and context are far more useful than some broad term. With music that is an offshoot of metal, genres often just become convoluted and silly. Whatever makes you happy though.
Lol, I didn't even notice somebody had given me two thumbs down.
I love Jesu, not dissing Jesu AT ALL, I was just recommending that if you like Jesu, you might also like Isis. They did, after all, invent "post-metal" or "metal-gaze", whatever you want to call it. It just seemed appropriate to mention them...
"kicks every post-metal band in the ass " is what was primarily being referred to. I vastly prefer Old Man Gloom to Isis, but that doesn't mean I don't mind Isis. Stating with impunity that X is better than everything related to it is really fucking stupid. Music is subjective and it's difficult at best to argue why one band that makes music for music's sake is better than another. You should get through you head and grow up because you are doing something that children do.
It is! It's called "Bad Habit" and it's about a guy who gets a rush out of stangling random people. It's plays while he's laying down in his jail cell bed.
Song is so fucking sick
