I am a huge fan of flex pens, the problem is, I can't find a handwriting style that works well (and looks good) with the flex pens. I have found that style! Could you please tell me the name of the the style/font you use, it would mean a lot!
Could you give us an estimate on how many fins were visible (the easiest way for me to tell how far in the feed needs to go into the body), and a rough estimate of the length between the tip of the feed and the tip of the nib?
Can you explain any modifications that you did to get improved flow? Did you deepen the feed channel? How much? Adjust the fins? I got an Ahab but it railroads when I write with speed or use too much flex. I want to adjust it to use as a drawing tool but it needs to be much wetter and respond better to quick strokes.
Noodler's flex pen is pretty cheap, but has some inconsistent flow: sometimes lets fall one or two big ink drop per minute on paper ; sometimes skips like crazy. I'm tired of it in mine. Why Nathan don't fix it?? I prefer to pay a bit more and get a reliable pen. See TWSBI. It's not expensive (US$ 38) and is an awesome pen, quite reliable and well made.
@fabrimedeiros9888 Common stop whining :) and stop comparing apples to oranges. Does TWSBI come with a flexible nib? Do you understand why most modern pen companies don't offer flex nibs? Nathan's pen is what it is. A cheap flex pen that needs tweaking from the user to work semisatisfactorily.
@fabrimedeiros9888 I agree with you. Most pen brands don't offer flex nibs. And I don't know why. There are a relatively large demand for flex nibs. Most of people who likes those nibs, really knows how to use it properly, but I still think that Nathan can improve this pen.
@onehundredand37 gouletpens has some in stock (at least, as of this posting), and is probably the best place to get it. No affiliation; just a satisfied customer.
I will also help pimp Goulet Pens as a satisfied customer, they are an amazing little shop. Fast shipping, good prices, but best of all a super personal feel. It's a husband and wife team who really seem to love what they do, I even got a handwritten thank-you note on the invoice.
Im wicked excited for these to come out in the new blue color. Finally an inexpensive pen thats not vintage with some good flex, besides the namiki falcon
where to buy??

Nice Paper! Is that Rhodia? The ink beads-up nicely and has no chance of bleeding.
bonsaijoe1 1 month ago
@bonsaijoe1 No, it is Staples' bagasse. A great paper for ink (and much cheaper than Rhodia).

@randy25rhoads I changed ink and I had to re-optimize the feed/nib so I can not offer any data... Sorry

@jebbylawless No modifications. I have to admit that the pen is not without its troubles.
Is it worth it? It is a good novelty for the price but it not a trouble free pen...

Beautiful script, but could you maybe film it from the front?

get one of the new ones and test that. they have new feeds compared to the oldones which were heat set to the nib by hand, the new ones are machined.

Thanks a lot for this demonstration. How does this compare to the springiness of a
1. Parker Sonnet Mk1
2. Namiki Falcon with a soft fine nib.
Thanks and regards,
Anindya.
parachutes2005 9 months ago
@parachutes2005 Even the early Sonnets c. 1993-95 are not capable of this kind of flex.
Falcons give you some but again not that much. I liked the flow of this more than the Falcon.
But this is $14. The Sonnets and Falcons around $100 (second hand).

I wish mine flowed like that, it railroads constantly. Do you have any tips to improve the flow? I use Aurora black so I doubt it's the ink.
91962 1 year ago
@91962 Hi... One possibility is junk in the feed - so washing would help.
Otherwise I would take out the nib and feed and pass a thin brass sheet along the ink channel.
Good luck...
