pete has overr 4000 hits dude...c moon ......he needed money ....hes a nice guy too and if u ever meet him he'll take a pic of with u and sign ur autograph 4 free ...he did 4 me.
I think they should put Pete Rose in the Hall in about 50 years....He deserves to be in there, but he does not deserve to know that he is in there. Serves the jerk right.
I love Pete Rose, he was my favorite player when I was a kid, but even now he's still lying. He did NOT bet on his team to win every night. He did most nights, but there were times when he didn't bet on the Reds at all. And by not showing enough confidence in them on those nights, he was telling the other gamblers he expected them to lose.
No evidence he ever intentionally bet on his team to lose, though. I wish Pete the best, but he'll never make the Hall.
he'll never make it but somebody will sure have to hit over 4,000 balls to pass him. They recognize his accomplishments and they place him on the all century team and these dorks are using steroids and what he done was not as a player.
Pete Rose was a true baseball player; always sprinting to bases even on walks or pop ups. All time hit leader. He should've played for the yanks, he and them share a great appreciation for the sport, always doing what ever is needed to win, no matter what the costs are.
Always a true winner, just like the yankees, the philosphy is it is always a losing season until you get that ring, if you don't win that, it is a waste of a season, thats how it is, thats how the sport should be.
Betting against his team, penciling himself in the lineup over legitimately better players to break a hit record?
The same qualities that cause people to admire him for his 'grit', are the same qualities that make him an asshole. Grit is the most bullshit quality in sports. Pete Rose was a potential HOF hitter because he was a good contact hitter with a long career. A career that was artificially lengthened in respect of the cult that surrounded him. In return he pissed on baseball and fans.
Hands down! Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame - Gambling was a personal matter. I'm sick and tierd of the MLB witch hunt. I'll ask St. Theresa to PRAY TO THE GOD ALMIGHTY that PETE ROSE is INSTATED IN THE HALL OF FAME!
Did Micheal Jordans Dad get killed by what, 14 and 15 year old kids b-cause they wanted his Lexus or the wheels that were on the car? NO!!! I beleive M.J.'s dad got killed b-cause jordan's got a Gambling problem and whoever lost a considerable amount of money b-cause M.J. didn't back off bet-n that his team wouldn't loose either! Jordan the best basketball will ever c, Rose the best baseball will ever c. Think about it!
Don't worry Pete in my mind you will always be in the hall of fame, and you should be and same with Barry Bonds. Most of the american public does'nt understand how hard it is to hit a 90mph fastball, so all that I am saying is to the public is that once you can do that then you have the right to bash these players.
I grew up atching Pete, and he was my all-time fave (still is). His god given talent wasn't up there with the likes of Stan Musial or Ted Williams, but his tough-as-nails approach made him the great player he was. Did he bet on games? He sure did. Did he ever bet AGAINST his own team? If he did, he's a turd and I've lost all respect for him. But from what I hear, he bet FOR his team, and that only makes him want to win more. What's wrong with that? Hell, everyone should bet on his team!
It's ironic that baseball started investigating Pete Rose around the time "Field of Dreams" and "8 Men Out" appeared at the theatres.
It's also interesting to point out that baseball was 5 years away from it's greatest strike and the steroid era was just beginning.
Translation: MLB didn't want Pete in the game because he wasn't a home-run hitter...and they also wanted people to believe that "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and Buck Weaver don't deserve consideration of the Hall-of-Fame.
1990 Cincinnati Reds. World Series Champs once again ! I do believe Peter Edward Rose had a hand in making that team what it was.Any Tom,Dick,or,Harry could of come in and managed that team to Victory. Thanks again Pete for making Cincinnati Baseball what it should be! A Winning Tradition!I would like to see what Pete would do with that Team today.I would BET it would b a Winner in 3 Years, no less.Know punt intended. He would make the Bengals a better team !!!!
Born and raised in Hamilton,Ohio-1962,I grew up watch-n the BIG RED MACHINE evolve, ROSE,BENCH,MORGAN,PEREZ,Rose led that Franchise.Yes he screwed up.Hardest Ballplayer and probably the best I will ever see play the Game.Interesting on what he has to say in the future about Roidger Clemens! And most important how MLB will handle the whole situation. Then again won't matter what Petes take on it is, banished 4 LIFE!
Well He might of bet on baseball, but this guy never did steriods. Bonds aint got shit on Charlie Hustle. Love Pete Rose reguardless if he did bet. If baseball put out a vote to the fans Like they ought to, Pete would be in the hall of fame, the Baseball Commisioner knows it, but they got bigger fish to fry, like getting fans back to their sport. If they would just give him his spot in the HoF it might bring more fans back. Besides, Pete, got those hits when he was a player. not managing.
The only thing about pete rose is he knew the consequences of his actions, bet on baseball banned for life, roids might be illegal but the punishment is not the same, if you know what to expect if you get caught and still choose to do it its your own stupidity, he gets no sympathy from me and should never go to the hall, you dont break the law because of the penalties why forgive him is he above the rules because of who he is?
Dude, Don't you think the man has been punished enough? Why be so hard on him? Haven't you ever made a mistake? Look at the crap from Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan, and your wanting to be hard on this guy for one little screw up?! Pete is by far better! Quit being a Totalitarian Hitler and cut the guy some slack why dont you?
Im not advocating that, if the penalty for using steroids becomes banishment for life then so be it but as for now it is not, as far as a mistake yes i have made a few but I am willing to take the concequences and a mistake is a mistake and a risk is a risk he took the risk he is being penalized if youre going to forget about the penalties then why have any?
Yeah but if you dug a little deeper you would realize that Pete, even though he broke the rules, HAS BEEN punished enough! A punishment should fit the crime. not the other way around. Especially considering that the F'ing Baseball commission renegged on the agreement with Pete when the old BBall commissioner passed away. The asshole that took over afterward didnt like PETE and didnt recognize the agreement.
mickey mantle said that they started calling him charlie hustle when mantle hit a real long home run in an exhibition game and pete rose tried to catch it but it was long gone without any chance of catching it and when mantle went back to the dugout he said to whitey ford "hey did you see that charlie hustle out there tryin to catch that home run?" and thats when they started calling him charlie hustle from then on
nobody ever played as hard as pete. people here in cincy love him. if he continued to manage he would have won at least five world series for us. he belongs in the hall. he has an addiction and many people don't understand that. he lost what he truly loved and has to live with that. give him a break.
i like when he signed a few baseballs that said "iam sorry i bet on baseball"and then he sold them on the net.Or like when he was banned from baseball he then went on the shopping network that night and started selling his baseball stuff.Real classy Pete.
Say what you want about his character, but i met the man, and he's a really good guy. Sure he did some questionable things, but Pete got those hits when hee was a PLAYER. he got nailed for gambling when he was managing. thweres a difference. you cant take away from the mans skill. Believe me it burns baseballs ass that they cant take those hits away from the man. Atleast we ALL KNOW Pete didnt do no steroids like Bonds and them bastards.
Rose lied for years about what he did. He trashed anyone that said he bet on baseball. Only later did he admit to doing it. He should stay banned for life.
I agree with the steroids issue. They don't belong. But Rose lied for years about gambling and said others lied who said he gambled. They didn't lie and he later admitted to gambling on baseball. That is why he should never be allowed into the hall of fame.
You guys are stupid! Pete WAS MLB! MLB WAS Pete Rose! He bet on the game. So what! He bet on his team to win. So what! He's competitive. Tell me, does Barry deserve the Hall? Test to prove Negative, and he deserves it. No testing, No Hall!
Dumbass "yankeekack". MLB was NEVER Pete Rose. Baseball is bigger than any one person or team. The dude disgraced himself and his family and teammates by betting on baseball.
No way of knowing if he always bet on his team to win or lose, or bet on other teams. The point is Rose bet on baseball and then lied about it for 14 years.
Pete Rose betrayed the trust every red blooded American had in major league baseball. End of story.
Don't worry about anyone quoting you f-nugget. You obviously didn't follow baseball very much back then. Either you're a snot-nosed kid or just plain stupid. Pete Rose was everything good for the game of baseball (unlike the "practice?, now we're going to talk about practice?" punks of this generation). You're right that Baseball is bigger than one person, but it's pretty small compared to what it use to be. Nobody believes in the people of the game anymore...
Betting on Baseball, while you have such influence as Pete had at that time (player/manager) is Not right. And lying and hiding facts for 14 years is Not right. But circumstantial evidence would dictate that he did NOT throw any games for financial gains, and that he did not take away from the integrity of the game (the plan is to WIN - remember) when he bet on His team to WIN. If he bet on other teams (not related to anything within...
... his control), then this too should be a minor violation. So where specifically do you (or anyone else) get off on the fact that he deserves to be banned from the Hall and the Game itself??? Michael Jordan bet all the time when he was playing for the Bulls. No evidence has come out that he bet on his team in the past, but the betting alone was there. Should he also be up shoot creek without a paddle?
