I love Pete Rose, he was my favorite player when I was a kid, but even now he's still lying. He did NOT bet on his team to win every night. He did most nights, but there were times when he didn't bet on the Reds at all. And by not showing enough confidence in them on those nights, he was telling the other gamblers he expected them to lose.

No evidence he ever intentionally bet on his team to lose, though. I wish Pete the best, but he'll never make the Hall.

Pete Rose was a true baseball player; always sprinting to bases even on walks or pop ups. All time hit leader. He should've played for the yanks, he and them share a great appreciation for the sport, always doing what ever is needed to win, no matter what the costs are.

Always a true winner, just like the yankees, the philosphy is it is always a losing season until you get that ring, if you don't win that, it is a waste of a season, thats how it is, thats how the sport should be.

I grew up atching Pete, and he was my all-time fave (still is). His god given talent wasn't up there with the likes of Stan Musial or Ted Williams, but his tough-as-nails approach made him the great player he was. Did he bet on games? He sure did. Did he ever bet AGAINST his own team? If he did, he's a turd and I've lost all respect for him. But from what I hear, he bet FOR his team, and that only makes him want to win more. What's wrong with that? Hell, everyone should bet on his team!

It's ironic that baseball started investigating Pete Rose around the time "Field of Dreams" and "8 Men Out" appeared at the theatres.

It's also interesting to point out that baseball was 5 years away from it's greatest strike and the steroid era was just beginning.

Translation: MLB didn't want Pete in the game because he wasn't a home-run hitter...and they also wanted people to believe that "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and Buck Weaver don't deserve consideration of the Hall-of-Fame.

Im not advocating that, if the penalty for using steroids becomes banishment for life then so be it but as for now it is not, as far as a mistake yes i have made a few but I am willing to take the concequences and a mistake is a mistake and a risk is a risk he took the risk he is being penalized if youre going to forget about the penalties then why have any?
