Its a shame that with the current system of freestyle wrestling you wont get to see high scoring/high action matches like this. A lot of wrestlers won't do much if they know they get to lock in the clinch. Just a different era in wrestling I guess.
this japanese guy was technically better than the american.
he intiated every move, and almost took him down every time in the beginning especially. but hte american was far stronger and bigger so he could reverse him
@kingshahine If you knew anything aout randy lewis' wrestling style you would know that he doesnt like to shoot alot and goes for defensive scores more ofthan than offensive scores. plus the ending result of the match clearly shows who was the better wrestler here...
I was fortunate enough to grow up in Iowa City, IA and watch Lewis and the Banach brothers wrestle for the Hawkeyes. Just unbelievable to have those kind of guys in the old Fieldhouse bringing the pain to anyone who came in there. If you threw Randy Lewis in the middle of Lake Michigan he wouldn't get wet.
Thank you, thank you very much for posting this video. I haven't seen it for almost 20 years. Randy Lewis's gold-medal match and that reach-back-hook-the-lat "army throw" in particular inspired me immeasurably. I have been waiting for this match to appear online, and you have done it. Cheers!
Randy is my all time favorite wrestlers - Amazing guy in terms of wrestling & I'd love to play Blackjack with him sometime. Too bad we boycotted the '80 Olympics.
Geez... I've wanted to see this match for a long time. Easily one of the most exciting matches I've ever seen! I wonder if Lewis crapped himself a couple of times in that match... rare to see someone almost pinned twice and still dominate.
what a fucking match. new freestyle rules blow.

Kinda sloppy in my eyes, he doesn't try to sprawl, keep his hips up, but he is good at reversals.....
