I grew up in a time when the American Astronaut was a national hero.

As you pointed out the Apollo missions did not have the benefit of computers as we know them, indeed our modern cell phones have more processing power. Fact of the matter is we did not have the technology then, and we do not posses the technology now!

Palm centro? I have version 4..1 seriously Apollo computer and modern computers the Pentium 1 was in design in the late 60's so I've been told.

Strictly speaking the digits should be in red and not green.

@gordongate how do you get this idea? the real display isn't good, old red led, it is green electroluminescent.

@hk1963 because the first green LED's were not bright, long lived, power efficient or green enough to have a practical application until after 1971 despite an unsubstantiated claim by a chinese manufacturer. Up to that point, the display of equipment using a 7 bar LED block to represent numbers was always red.

The CMC was made before the launch in 1970 and therefore not possible to have green numerical LED display.

Often, a ZnS phosphor was used, suspended between two electrodes. Light out put was proportional to frequency and voltage.
