i think michael hirst's plans were only to do 4 seasons but yeah nothing has really been done to show mary's life after henry like her getting married and getting her title 'Bloody Mary' all we know really is when edward was dying he asked Lady Jane to succeed him, Mary wasnt happy, had her executed and put herself on the throne, then she died of a tumor and elizabeth was queen but I would love the show to continue
It's funny how a lot of people complain about how the show ended at Henry's death and beg for a continuation and my question is simply this: Why bother?
Apart from the final scene in the series being rather...final, knowing that the entire series was a prequel to the Elizabeth films makes it kind of useless to continue on. We know what happens next. Mary's reign WAS dramatized in the first Elizabeth film and not much really happens in Edward's reign, so what's the point?
loved the series and sad to not see them take up elizabeth's reign she was the tudor that really turned england into a prosperouse country. i hope they take it up eventually
Note Elizabeth's total lack of emotion, the fact that she does not call him "father", and her total business-like composure. She does not love him, and rightfully so.
@hothotheat3000 Actually she did love her father. She shrewdly kept her distant because she knew what Henry VIII was capable of. Elizabeth heard about her mother's downfall and made sure she did not act like her mother. Elizabeth knew that triggered Henry's negativity!!! At the end of the series, when Natalie plays Anne's ghost, she mentions how well Elizabeth was intemperant.
I'm so sorry but his make up and the way he is using his voice just seems ridiculous and unrealistic to me, I'm struggling to see it in any way realistic. :( shame.
LOL his voice is so funny! I mean he is just too young to look old! And I noticed that he is so kind to Catherine Parr, especially in this scene. Sad that he wasnt so kind with Anne Boleyn too...
@northanortha In virtually every other movie or series with Henry VIII in it, they have a youngish man playing Henry - 30s or 40s and they are able to make them up to look as old and fat as Henry was when he died. He became extremely fat, and started aging badly after he was thrown from his horse in January 1536 - when Anne's baby was stillborn. I love the Tudor period but I have found this series hard to watch because JRM does not look or act the part IMO
I think that it is so telling of the women Elizabeth would be come that she didn't dissolve into tears the way Marry did. She was strong strong enough to rule the country she loved.
Mary, I know this sounds wrong, but you should be partying like it was 1599...And please don't judge Elizabeth, people. I would've reacted the same way had my father killed my mother. And never mind the fact Henry probably didn't like either of them. Perhaps he never stopped loving his daughters, but I'm pretty sure he never for a split second forgot what (who!) they were reminders of...
@GryffindorGurl wonder if she even knew her own mother because Mary and Kat are breaking down into tears and Elizabeth is just "like what ever you killed my mother and she was innocent"
@renesmee23cullen barely is my assumption. She was only abour maybe 3 or 4 when Anne was killed, so her memories are probably there but shawdowy. However, being as intelligent as Elizabeth was Im sure she knew of the situation :)
@GryffindorGurl she was about 3 at the time when her mother got killed but what if someone told her what had happen to Anne. it is possible that this could have happened but it is most likely that she had a shadowy memories of her mother, but i think she portrayed her father more then her mother who in the Tudors version Anne seems like a hungry power monster that cared little of the kingdom. but if you think about it henry and Elizabeth were more alike then Mary and Anne as queen of england
He was craving for male heirs to secure stable succession. We in today's world will never understand the degree of worry Henry had in his heart. In those days, lives were cheap and war was an easy option for many powerful nobles.
I want to get the dvd of season 4 and listen to the director's comentary regarding the look Elizabeth gave before walking away at the end of that scene. I'm sure it was symbolic of something, I just don't know what.
@Taopuppy I think it was a deep loathing for him. I mean, I know he's her father and all, but he did have her mother killed, he never really cared much for her as well as he did Edward (whom he openly favored) and to me, that look seems to say "Just die already." But knowing how intelligent and mature she is, she's wise enough to keep her emotions quiet, but not so quiet as not to be noticed.
excuse me, this never happened. Henry died without his children knowing until two or three days after. And besides, he wasn't very fond of Mary or Elizabeth...
@spinner909 This is a drama series, many many many things that are shown here never happen, and chronology they change many things also, maybe the biggest mistake overall is in the final season, with the appearance of Henry, he was very fat and ill.
But they have to give some twisted to history, if you look in the facts, after Henry divorced Anne of Cleves he was literally confine to his chamber, and actually at that time he was all ready very ill and overweight . . . .
I wish they would have kept the show goin.Mary does become Queen but only for s short time, before Elizabeth takes the throne,& Elizabeth`s reign was called,"the golden age".

There is much more to the Tudor dynasty than Henry VIII. I think that if you continue the series through the reigns of Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth you could make a ton of money and have loyal and dedicated fans of Showtime. I was saddened as I watch the finale last night and wonder if more could be told. The reigns of Mary and Edward haven't been dramatize and I think that this would be the most opportune time to do so.

@FantasmaLuna it barely touched Mary's reign..it was centered on Elizabeth and her accession....there was more to Mary's reign..much more..then was shown in the movie Elizabeth.
