  • Written, I think I discovered, when he was recovering from depression....it has always made me feel particularly relaxed and happy with its springlike themes and flowing melody....some weird playing here compared to a version I am used to!

  • Nice recording in a beautiful venue, of one of my desert island disc opuses (opi?). So who is your former quartet, and where are they based?

  • nice viola

  • Definitely my favorite performance on Youtube of this movement. All have great intonation, well balanced. Being a cellist who has played this piece before, I especially enjoyed listening to the cello solo in the development...this cellist nailed it along with all the other solo parts. Much better than the Strathcona String Quartet's performance of this movement. I truly miss playing this piece...hopefully I'll have another oppurtunity. Bravo!

  • Beautiful! :) It might just be the recording, but the first violin seems to have some problems reaching the higher notes. The rest of the quartet is excellent...the cellist is especially good, in the beginning solo and the reprise at the end. Overall, great intonation and good coordination, although the first and second violin could fit even more perfectly.

The second movement is definitely my favorite, and this recording has further proved why. :)
