When will the mother learn that punishments don't work as it suppresses negative behaviour but doesn't eliminate it.

No wonder why grounding the kid didn't work.

When my brother was in high school, my parents tried punishing him in an effort to get better in school, and guess what, it didn't work. Why, because it didn't get to the root of the problem.

When a child struggles, be proactive with the problem such as psychological testing and extra tutoring.

Want to have your child do well in school? Get them involved in sports or other extra curricular activities.

In fact, kids involved in sports do better in school than non athletes.

That mother just violated the cardinal rule in correcting bad behaviour, using punishments to get results.

Punishments don't work because you don't get to the root of the problem, you only suppress it.

No wonder why Special Olympics coaches are not allowed to use punishment tactics, and it even states that on their training manuals.
