@turbobuick33 My van has the ability to run AC, but I don't even have belts on the system right now. I'm an old-fashioned gal and haven't used AC in years. Lucky for me, this summer was spent in Southern California, so I haven't suffered too many unbearable hot days. I usually just keep the curtains down and the windows/vents open for circulation. On an especially hot day I might go find a library or coffee shop to enjoy for the afternoon.
I'm interested in turning my Ford van like yours. Did you buy your van with everything inside like that? If not where did you buy the parts? And who did the work? thanks
@turbobuick33 My van was a pre-done conversion, but you can Google van conversions and find a lot of plans and layouts from people who have done their own from scratch!
How do you get energy and internet? I've been thinking about going on a road trip for an indefinite amount of time, and those are my two biggest concerns, considering all I do in my free time is go on the internet. Thanks.
I'm already hooked on your blog, I cannot WAIT to be doing this. I plan on using it for saving money more so than traveling every where. I move ALOT as well (lived in about 12 cities so far for short times, up to 2 1/2 years. But I really love SD so I want to finish my degree and then go from there. Did you search for a camper van all over the US or just in California?
Just found your video, I live in San Diego as well (well up in oceanside now) but hopefully I get to do this as well if I get this job on Tues, thanks for the inspiration!
Great video:). I want to do this sooooo bad some day. Do you lave any problems with Loulou escaping or trying to? I thought if I ever did this I'd get a dog for company but truth be told I'm a cat person, big time. Is it hard with a cat? (what does she do for exercise and what not?)
@mydeadsea Loulou is a pretty timid cat (I got her when she was 2.5 and she had been abused) so she sticks to the front step or her scratching post which I set outside the door sometimes during the day. The van has enough surfaces that she just kind of leaps around and runs around at night from the floor to the counter and bed and she stays pretty fit.
nice. where do you park most of the time. and where and how do you plan to travel.. I went on the big side to living in a school bus 32 ft long but it is what it is...thinking of selling my bus and going stealth with a long van,,,good job on your and best of luck
@Damnedsoul53 Right now it's not much of an issue since I'm not on the road. Once I start traveling I doubt I'll do anything spectacular to keep safe, but I might have some pepper spray nearby when I'm sleeping or something.
I like the fact that your cat is living with you in your van! And it's cool that you have a blog about living in your van! I too have a video about my van. And I used to have a cat in my van.
I wanted to ask if you could show the outside of your van, or at least if you could reply with the specific make and model of the camper manufacturer.
I also wanted to know what are the van's length, head room etc etc.
I hope i'm not asking too much ;) - i just thinking very seriously to live in a small camper van (class B) to save money, after losing the little savings i had because of a cancer (I'm OK now!!!!).
@siafulinux That's a good idea. As of now I was thinking about painting a map on it to put pins in the places I'd been…maybe a better idea would be to first mount cork on it and then paint it so that it was an easier surface to pin things on! Thanks for the idea!
When you're out of the van with it turned off during the day, how do you make sure the temperature inside the van doesn't get too hot for Loulou? I'd love to live in a van someday, but all of the little kitty details worry me.
@mccuresr I live in the San Diego area less than a mile from the beach so the temperatures don't exceed about 70-75 degrees even on the hottest days. That, paired with leaving the windows and vents open for the breeze to come through and the awning out and shades closed to keep the sun out, keeps the van quite cool during the day. I'll have to rethink my strategy for maintaining a comfortable temp for her when I begin traveling and end up in hotter locations.
@CGaquamarine3 Yes, I love it! I don't find myself wanting more space than I'm given and it does have a really great layout to make use of every nook and cranny.
This is very nice, were did you come across your "home"? Do you live in this? I guess my final question will be.....how much was it if you're ok with me asking?
@MegaLinuxer I got it on Craigslist and yes, I'm living in it. Details of living in it can be seen on my blog which is linked in the description of the video. It was $3500 with the motorcycle rack included.
@chellymarie ah yes the old Craigslist I know it well, very cool thanks for the info. I plan on doing this same thing but had renewed my lease at the bequest of a girlfriend (mistake). Oh and nice blog, I would be interested in what kind of experiences you have while WWOOFing
Great setup. Where do you park at night? and do the police ever bother you? thanks

How do you stay cool inside the van during the hot summer months? Do you run the engine with the AC on? Or do you have a seperate plug in AC unit?

Was thinking when you were showing the fridge, maybe you could put cork board on the front door for notes, map & pins, etc. Multifunctional?

Cool van! In some ways I kind of like that set up better than a class C motorhome. It's probably more solid than one of those.
