  • you where not, this was the official broadcast, i saw it at my local accelerator facility, where i work.

    fukkin liar !

  • This happens ?They Stop selling whoppers? WTF gonna happen next miley cyrus gonna get pregnant around this bitch?

  • for what is that?

  • lhccountdown(.)info for latest info and countdown

  • 21st October is when the first collision will occur, till then its only testing of the two counter rotating beams of light, so obviously no black holes,

  • nonsense. the first collision will take place in april 2009!!

  • Was posted before it broke

  • I thought it was going to be in december 2009, correct me if I'm wrong. ~.~

  • no. like i said. the next first beam is expected in april '09

  • No. i read they can't fire up the LHC again before July 2009.

  • @naruto10 were u read that at?

  • Almost a year ago. I don't remember. But i'm sure it was on a site that wrote on the LHC. I got interested in it after i read a book called "Blasphemy"

  • Dry runs began today, the entire machine is complete PO 2 checkout in all sectors, and green light (correct temp, resistance, superconductance) in EVERY single magnet and busbar.

Long beam lifetime collisions should begin around the beginning of March, with first physics at 3.5TeV sometime around mid-March to April 1.

    Its already begun :)

  • that clap was very long.

  • lol, well its not like there gonna say woohoo...it got turned on, and all walk out. XD

  • ok americans. i'm happy to read what you wrote and that you are against war (now prove it voting for obama!) but

multibuddhaneo continues to not understand! Without research there couldn't be even the instruments to produce or develop medicines or planes to bring it to ones who need! research must go on. i don't know you but if you say that CERN is a nazi funded group how could i think that you are not an idiot? show us that you aren't saying something clever or just normal but not so stupid!

  • I hate the stereotyping of people... sure there is a place called India, or China, or Mexico, but not everyone there is Indian, Chinese, or Mexican... in the stereotypical way... everyone is different!!!!!!!!

  • Did the particles reach 99.9% the speed of light?

  • I think it needs some time to build up that speed..

  • No, just for the thing to warm up. The actual particles went to that speed in less than a second.

  • afaik they did run at 5% of final energy- but that should be about 350 MeV of kinetic energy - so almost the speed of light...

  • this was only a test run to see if it worked properly i think

  • cyriak(dot)co(dot)uk/lhc/lhc-webcams(dot)html

    LOL

  • I feel blessed to live in this lifetime because of the Large Hadron Collider. Imagine having the answer to many of the most fundamental questions about the universe. It's a blessing, really.

  • shut up lol.

  • whoops i pressed the thumbs up instead of thumbs down, this is not a bucket a bolts they might be able to come up with new forms of energy and it would help the world, and if they dont find the particle that their looking for it also means that theres much more rrom for improvement.

  • you stupid multibuddhaneo. Without research in basic physics you wouldn't be sitting in front of a computer talking shit in youtube, and many technologies of today like radiotherapy or lasers wouldnt exist if we would have listen comments like yours 50 years ago. Shut the fuck up

  • i imagine you are an american so i guess it's difficult to make you understand something, however i'll try to do it. scientific research is done not only for satisfy human curiosity, but also to improve our life. without research you couldn't have a pc, a car, hospitals, tv, everything that goes with electricity, you couldn't fly with planes, travel or just have your house warmed. and however they spent for the whole LHC as much as the USA spend in one week for the iraq war. think about this.

  • human needs(food,water,medicine,etc..) are more important than human curiosity. you think i started and support the illegal iraq invasion you dumb fuck. now why the fuck you want to throw that in there?? you dont even know me.

  • Why are you saying that because someone is american, it's difficult to understand something? I understand just perfectly, and not every american agrees with the war, nor wants it. So as far as what is spent, that's really not on the fault of the common american. But that's not even about the war, nor is it even a reason to bring it up.

I do agree that we do need research and without it, we wouldn't have what we have. But it makes others uneasy, they just feel things differently than you.

  • The irony that Multibuddheaneo is using the internet to communicate how he feels that CERN is a complete waste of time. From 1989-1994 CERN specified and funded the development internet, invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, to allow the hundreads of scientists in universities all over the world to communicate with each other whilst developing the LHC!!! Since Israrl is an observer-member of CERN it is hardly "Nazi-funded" is it? (try Wikipedia CERN)

  • @houghtonga:

"The irony that Multibuddheaneo is using the internet to communicate how he feels that CERN is a complete waste of time. From 1989-1994 CERN specified and funded the development internet"

    Checkmate!

  • this is the technology at maximu, we need some progress, the results of this researchs will help the science in all fields dumbass

  • @multibuddhaneo:

So I guess the process of turning energy into mass is unimportant?

  • u sound like my friend who usually puts down anything that is good... no matter how good it is... it's bad, for him... grow some new eyeballs!! be more optimistic! yeesh... I understand your concern... but this is pretty good too... O.O

  • Oh wow, looks like they just somehow created a black hole and destroyed the world. More pathetic than the Y2K scare.

  • yes they want to create a micro black hole , then black hole will start eating things and suddenly become bigger,, and then what??? how will they sop it??

  • The micro black hole will disintegrate into Hawking radiation very very quickly (to us, but a long time in particle physics actually.)

  • they want to recreate the big bang not a black hole u mental retarded kid.

  • you asshole motherfucker,, the MICRO black hole (if u know the difference) it is what they want TOO.. THE BLAK HOLE IS A POSSIBILITY !!!! YOU SHOULD READ MORE ABOUT THINGS BEFORE YOU CALL SOMEONE EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE!!!!

  • no need for name calling! especially with such terms you've used :S it's not their fault! have more empathy.

  • Yes it worked, but in a week or so they are sending it counter clockwise. and in october they are sending 2 in each direction and are attempting to create a micro black whole.

look it up on wikipedia. if they do this it may just disepate.......or it may eat at out planet

  • They divided by zero.

    OH SHI-

  • so i heard but how ? zero volume n mass = infinity????

  • waa??

  • Wow...choked me up for a second! Was wondering all day at work if some wing-nut was going to somehow actually cause a problem! Hurray for science!!! Congrats from seattle, WA!

  • wow um my question for this is whats the MAIN PURPOSE? what are they trying to fo also if it can make a black hole why are they doing it? Anf if they are doing it for the black hole isnt it Illegal 2 END THE WORLD??

someone answer my question so i can atleast get laid before the world ends.

  • the main purpose is to proof or disprove the existence of the Higgs boson. To understand the importance of the Higgs boson, just google it.

  • Thanks for the video. It's great to see this. Don't worry, the world will not finish because of LHC. Just read the article CERN has posted on their web about it. It's title is "safety on the LHC" or something like that. They explain all the experiments, and why it will be no problems in the future.

  • did they ever find the god partical if they did let me know what they disoverd

  • The stuff won't actually collide for a few weeks,

Sorry I'm not a science geek.

  • You shouldn't play God and I mean that in a sense that we shouldn't take on things that are simply too big for our own good. This is a major break through I do agree but mankind is its own killer.

  • THE WORLDS GUNNA ENNNNDDDDDDDDD

  • No.

  • That's so great- i'm so envious of you for being there! Thanks for sharing this with those of us who couldn't be there (or even get the livefeed to work because it was so busy)!

  • Thank you for posting this! Very exciting. I can't wait to see the discoveries this leads to.

  • Excellent! This is HUGE for physics!

  • excellent video! how lucky you are to be there dude

  • What? Didn't understand a word. If your saying why not do this in Iraq in case it explodes then you do not belong here, go to another video of "s@#$ blowing up in mi crib yo'all"

  • Omg, thank you so much! :D

  • What's the meaning of this ? Create a high energy source or ?

  • They`re planning to collide protons at speed of 99% of speed of lite with their mass exceeding 7000 times of ordinary and at energies of

14 TeV. The point is to smash protons into quarks.

  • Light*

  • world end....

  • lmao

  • Very cool! And somehow we are all still alive! :)

  • It will take several months (by now they aim for 2010) before the LHC reaches it's nominal power. And a few more before anything can come out from any experiment (yep, lots of data to analyse) so let's be patient!

Congrats to all the LHC team!

  • They haven't collided any hadrons. That's when the danger will occur. Six to eight weeks.

  • Yeah, a beam of electrons is of no danger. But the collision of protons is and that starts in october.

  • You're not another BLACK HOLE freak are you? those muppets should have all posts marked as spam!

  • Um we collided protons before. Nothing happened

  • Yes, but we never smashed protons into quarks before... I think there is a were good reason that protons stay protons... Maybe we should let them be that way...

  • You make it sound voodoo, when it's not. If you don't feel secure about physics then go play football.

Quarks stay inside protons, because of a simple fact: strong nuclear forces are too big for them to remain separate - they grow to unimaginable magnitudes the farther quarks go from each other.

We need to bring as much energy into them as the bounding has - so we smash them. Nothing will happen them - in less than a blink they will be together, with some other folks.

  • "but we never smashed protons into quarks before"

Er.. yes we have in a number of other particle colliders including the Fermilab collider.

"I think there is a were good reason that protons stay protons"

    Which is?

"Maybe we should let them be that way."

Actually our planet is being bombarded by them daily (and many other types of particles), many of them at massively higher energies than the LHC could produce.

So protons do not always 'stay protons' even in nature :)

  • has anything been discovered from this yet, and was it successful?

  • Thanks so much, popped it onto my blog - you rock!

  • And the world hasn't ended. wow.

  • haha:)

Actually, the first beam is only 450 GeV, far from the energy which is theoretically possible to create a mini-size and short-life black hole.

  • it really is a historical moment. i am neither a physician nor a scientist but i wish there was a way to observe and comprehend what is going on in there.

  • Congratulations and good luck in the future!

  • Thank you! This is historical moment!

  • Thanks, that's fantastic!
