Thanks, Coach Robb, for the video. I am in my 40s and have little swimming skills but just bought a kickboard to get started, to transition from ballet to a low impact aerobic exercise. (It's nice to hear my very flexible feet are good for some sport!)
1. The muscles tire because of the density associated with water - pushing both up and down. This is normal and you will become stronger in a short period of time.
2. To help you with your ability to move through the water, point your toes down towards the other end of the pool. This may be tough initially due to your running and inflexiblity within your ankles. Also, don't bend your knees, kick from the hips.
Thank you for the video, but I have a question. Id be great if you can answer. I started swimming and I used your video to improve my technique, but when I try to do this, specially if I dont allow my legs to go outside the water, I move extremely slow and my legs get tired in no time. This is kind weird since I run quite a lot, I know different muscles are being worked, so my question is, Am i so slow because my legs are just no used to this movement or my technique is prob, wrong? thank you!!
@finallyonenottaken hey. i used to go mountainbiking alot before i started swimming in early 2011. i had just the same problem you have (had i guess, since your comment was placed 7 months ago ;-) ).
one thing our coach told us (not that important but still worth mentioning) was to not bring our legs together so that the ancles might touch. keep them apart as if you were "standing comfortably" – this keeps you from rolling to your breathing-side while swimming regularly.
You mention after this Video to go back and watch the first 3 videos to have complete understanding on your instruction. I do not see where your Videos are labeled as such. Iam new to this , therefore iam eager to follow the instructions properly to reap the benifits
I apologize for the delay getting back to you - I missed the notice that you posted a comment! Regarding the three videos, please look up - Coach Robb: Swimming 101. If you have any questions or need anything clarified, please feel free to email me.
Thanks for the video Robb! I'm only 24 but have a terrible back. I've been told that my core muscles aren't working properly. So I have to incorporate swimming. I'm off to the pool right now to start using the kick board. Most importantly - I can work on perfect technique thanks to this video.
Speedo CSC; I wear contacts and find these goggles to work the best for both vision and keeping the water out. Please let me know if you need anything.

@greatraces what kind of swimming shorts are you wearing?? they seem to fit snugly compared to board shorts (preferably not wanting to wear speedos)
